Hi, please can I check the stitch count for the sleeves. I\'m making the second size, and there are 47 stitches after all increases. This makes the top of the sleeve too narrow to fit the overall 40cm armhole. 47/1.3 = 36cm. Does it have to be slightly stretched to fit, or should there be more increases? \r\n\r\nMany thanks\r\n\r\nJo

I'm trying to follow the directions of the DROPS 235-32 pattern but I have a question on the rib of the sweater called Salt and Pepper. On the photograph the rib seems to be a single rib with 1 twisted knit and 1 twisted purl, but on the A1 diagram and instructions it is not clear that this is the case. It gives 2 purls and 2 knits. Can this please be explained? I might misunderstand the instructions since I always work without patterns, so I need a little help with this one. Thank you.

Hi Marina, The rib is K2 twisted, purl 2 from the right side and K2, purl 2 twisted from the wrong side (the diagram is read from right to left from the right side and left to right from the wrong side). Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. CHANGING BALLS: For a neat colour-change when using Fabel it is important to start the new ball with the same colour as the end of the last ball. DECREASE TIP (neck): All decreases are worked from the right side! Before the neck: Work until there are 6 stitches left before the neck, knit 2 together, work to the end of the row as before (1 stitch decreased). After the neck: Work 4 stitches as before, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased) INCREASE TIP (sleeves): Increase 1 stitch inside the 1 edge stitch on each side by making 1 yarn over; on the next row purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front/back pieces and sleeves are worked separately, back and forth, then sewn together to finish. The neck is worked in the round. The back piece is 6 cm longer than the front. There are more stitches on the back piece than the front to avoid the rib at the bottom being tight. BACK PIECE: Cast on 104-116-132-140-152-164 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand DROPS Fabel and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work rib from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, A.1 until there are 3 stitches left, work the first 2 stitches in A.1, so the pattern is symmetrical, and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this pattern back and forth for 18 cm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 44-51-61-63-67-72 stitches evenly spaced, then cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 61-66-72-78-86-93 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl the rest of the row and cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 62-67-73-79-87-94 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Read CHANGING BALLS! When the piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, cast off 1-2-3-5-6-6 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 60-63-67-69-75-82 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm. Cast off the middle 20-21-23-23-23-24 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 19-20-21-22-25-28 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 92-100-112-120-132-144 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality. Work rib from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, A.1 until there are 3 stitches, work the first 2 stitches in A.1, so the pattern is symmetrical, and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this pattern back and forth for 12 cm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 32-35-41-43-47-52 stitches evenly spaced, then cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 61-66-72-78-86-93 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl the rest of the row and cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 62-67-73-79-87-94 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39-40 cm. Cast off 1-2-3-5-6-6 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 60-63-67-69-75-82 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 46-48-49-51-52-54 cm. Place the middle 12-13-15-15-15-16 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Decrease stitches for the neck on each row from the right side as follows – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this 5 times = 19-20-21-22-25-28 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 58-62-62-66-66-70 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality. Work rib from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 10 cm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 18-21-19-21-21-24 stitches evenly spaced = 40-41-43-45-45-46 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Purl 1 row with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch and cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the sleeve measures 16 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 7½.-7½.-6.-5½.-4.-3½. cm a total of 5-5-6-6-7-8 times = 50-51-55-57-59-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 50-50-50-50-49-47 cm. Cast off. Work 1 more sleeve in the same way – make sure you start with the yarn-colour which matches the bottom of the first sleeve. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the cast-off edge. Sew the sleeve to the armhole, then sew the sleeve cap to the bottom of the armhole– see sketch. Sew the sleeve and side seams in one go – inside the 1 edge stitch, from the bottom of the sleeve then down the body, leaving a 12 cm split on the front piece (18 cm on the back). DOUBLE NECK: Knit up from the right side and inside the 1 edge stitch, 80-96 stitches (including the stitches on the thread) with short circular needle size 5 mm. The number of stitches must be divisible by 4. Work A.1 in the round for 11 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
