I am to the point where I am getting ready to put the middle stitches for the neck on a thread. Just before that the pattern says to decrease stitches evenly over the knitted stitches in A.4. Is this on the wrong side or front side? If it is on the right side, do I knit another row on the wrong side to be able to put the neck stitches on a thread from the right side? Thank you!
20.07.2026 - 14:34DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Sirockman, you can work this decrease row from the wrong side so that you can start the neck on the next row from the right side. Happy knitting!

Hello, could you tell me if the inches given for sizes S, M, L etc. include ease or if I should add that myself. Eg. If I am making a sweater for a man whose chest size is 38 1/2" that would be a size S according to the instructions. If that doesn't include an allowance for ease, I'm thinking I should go up to a size M. But if it includes ease, size S should be fine. Thank you in advance!
11.07.2026 - 18:38DROPS Design answered:
Dear Diane, please read here how to choose a size and the ease - remember that all measurements in chart are in cm. Happy knitting!

Does the chart A4 continue for 40 rows then repeat to desired length? As the front is made each row includes a row of A1-A6 each? Are A2, A3, A5, A6 only 8 rows?
25.05.2026 - 01:51DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ivette, yes, chart A.4 has 40 rows, so you repeat these 40 rows vertically as much as needed. In the front piece you will have A.1 on each side, next to the edge stitches, which is worked over as many stitches as indicated. Then you have A.2, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6, 1 time each. You will work them row by row, but some charts are shorter than others, so you will need to start the next vertical repeat of the charts before chart A.4 finishes its first repeat. Happy knitting!

Hi there, I am working on sleeve and the pattern says “ Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the sleeve measures 10 cm. ” Please let me know where the sleeve begins? Does it include the rib or not? Many thanks, Kim
15.05.2026 - 00:16DROPS Design answered:
Hi Kim, the sleeve is measured from the edge, rib section included. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams show all rows from the right side. INCREASE TIP (sleeves): All increases are worked from the right side! Make 1 yarn over inside each edge stitch on both sides. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ----------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in sections, back and forth then sewn together. The neck is worked in the round and folded double. BACK PIECE: Cast on 116-124-136-148-160-172 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 16-14-18-20-20-20 stitches evenly on the row = 100-110-118-128-140-152 stitches. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work pattern A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue this pattern. When the piece measures 44-45-46-47-48-49 cm, cast off at the beginning of each row for the armholes as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 0-1-2-2-3-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-1-4-6-8 times on each side = 94-98-102-106-110-114 stitches. Continue the pattern. When the piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm, cast off the middle 38-38-40-40-42-42 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 27-29-30-32-33-36 stitches. Continue pattern A.1 until the piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 116-124-136-148-160-172 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 12-14-10-8-8-8 stitches evenly on the row = 128-138-146-156-168-180 stitches. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work pattern A.1 over 11-16-20-25-31-37 stitches, A.2, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6, work 11-16-20-25-31-37 stitches in A.1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. When the piece measures 44-45-46-47-48-49 cm, cast off at the beginning of each row for the armholes as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 0-1-1-2-3-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-3-4-6-8 times on each side = 122-126-130-134-138-142 stitches. Continue the pattern. When the piece measures 58-60-61-63-64-66 cm, decrease 12 stitches evenly over the knitted stitches in A.4 = 110-114-118-122-126-130 stitches. On the next row from the right side place the middle 32 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2-2-3-3-3-4 times = 35-37-38-40-41-43 stitches on the shoulder. When the piece measures 65-67-69-71-73-75 cm, decrease 4 stitches in the knitted sections of each A.2 and A.3 / A.5 and A.6 = 27-29-30-32-33-35 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 62-62-66-66-70-70 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 7 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 8-6-8-8-10-8 stitches evenly on the row = 54-56-58-58-60-62 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the sleeve measures 10 cm. Increase 1 stitch inside both edge stitches – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2½-2½-2-1½-1½-1½ cm a total of 15-15-16-19-19-21 times = 84-86-90-96-98-104 stitches. When the sleeve measures 52-51-50-49-48-47 cm, cast off 3 stitches on each side. Cast off for the sleeve cap at the beginning of each row as follows: 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-0-1-0-1 time on each side. Then cast off 2 stitches on each side until the sleeve measures 57 cm in all sizes, cast off 3 stitches on each side, then cast off the remaining stitches. The sleeve measures 58 cm in all sizes. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the cast-off edges. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the sleeve and side seams in one go, inside the 1 edge stitch. NECK: The neck is worked in the round, starting from the right side by one shoulder seam. Use short circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Knit up 96 to 108 stitches (including the stitches from the thread in front) – the number of stitches must be divisible by 4. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 11 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important the seam is elastic. |
