Hi, I'm kinda new to knitting and I was wondering if the knitting tension is something that should be correct as it has just been knitted or if that should be correct after blocking? Thank you
07.01.2025 - 20:09DROPS Design answered:
Dear Nathalie, we are not blocking our garments, so tension should be the same, should you think there might be a difference for your work, then just try to block it first to check tension, otherwise, adjust needle size so that tension is correct. Happy knitting!

Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle, top down. Jumper is knitted in stripes with 2 strands Brushed Alpaca Silk. BODY: Cast on 104-116-124-136-148-164 stitches on circular needle size 7 mm with 2 stands pink sand. Knit 1 round, then work rib as follows: * Knit 1, purl 1 *, repeat from *-*. Work STRIPES BODY - see explanation above. Continue with rib until piece measures 6 cm, switch to circular needle size 8 mm. Continue in stocking stitch over all stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, work next round as follows: Work 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches, cast off 2 stitches, work 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches, cast off 2 stitches. Each part is worked separately back and forth on needle. Slip the first 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches on a stitch holder, and work over the last 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches on back piece. BACK PIECE: = 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch and stripes. When piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm, cast off the middle 16-18-18-20-22-22 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off 1 stitch on next row towards the neck = 16-18-20-22-24-28 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm (= 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm from where 1 stitch was cast off in each side for armholes), cast off. Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 50-56-60-66-72-80 stitches. Continue with stripes and stocking stitch. When piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm, slip the middle 10-12-12-14-16-16 stitches on a stitch holder for neck, and finish shoulders separately. Then cast off stitches on every row from neck as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 16-18-20-22-24-28 stitches remain on each shoulder. Continue with stocking stitch until piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm (= 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm from where 1 stitch was cast off in each side for armholes), cast off. Work the other shoulder the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVE: Work sleeves in the round, top down. Pick up 40-44-46-48-50-52 stitches around the sleeve opening in outer loop of edge stitch on circular needle size 8 mm with 1 strand pale rust and 1 strand off white, i.e. begin where piece was divided for front and back piece, pick up 20-22-23-24-25-26 stitches up to shoulder seam, and pick up 20-22-23-24-25-26 stitches from shoulder seam and down to where piece was divided on back piece. Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve. Work in stocking stitch in the round and STRIPES SLEEVE. When piece measures 3 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread - read DECREASE TIP! Decrease like this every 6-5-5-4-4-3 cm 7-9-9-10-10-11 times in total = 26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until piece measures 47-45-44-42-41-38 cm. Switch to double pointed needles size 7 mm, work rib knit 1/purl 1 for 4 cm. Cast off when sleeve measures 51-59-48-46-45-42 cm. Work the other sleeve the same way. NECK EDGE: Begin from right side with a strand off white and a strand pale rust and short circular needle size 7 mm - pick up approx. 52 to 68 stitches (including stitches from stitch holder and divisible by 4). Work rib (knit 1/purl 1) in the round for 4 cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
