I am working on the Sleeve cap. How many stiches should be left just before I cast off? When you say, 'cast off 4 st each side', how am I ment to do this? do you mean 'Decrease 4 each side,' or 'Cast off 4 st, knit to end, turn, cast off 4'. Because it's impossible to follow the instructions you have written (pauses to hyperventalate). Please help.

Dear Mrs Fryer, you will have to cast off on each side on every other row, this means you will cast off at the beginning of each row, both from RS and from WS: 4 sts 1 time (= 4 sts at the beg of next 2 rows), 3 times 1 time (= 3 sts at the beg of next 2 rows), 2 sts 1-1-1-1-2-2 times (= 2 sts at the beg of next 2-2-2-2-4-4 rows), etc... Happy knitting!

The UK version is wrong. It skips the increases at the back so that when you get to the armholes there are too few stitches. Enjoying knitting this even if I had to undo a lot of the back :/

Dear Carrie, the UK-EN pattern did mention to decrease : "When piece measures 8 cm continue in stocking sts, at the same time dec 1 st each side on every 3 cm a total of 4 times = 66-74-80-90-100-112 sts. ". Or do you mean something else ? Happy knitting!

DROPS jacket with shawl collar in moss stitch in ”Silke-Alpaca” Sizes: S - XXXL
DROPS 106-11 |

Moss stitch: Row 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*. Row 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat Row 2. Back piece: Cast on 74-82-88-98-108-120 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needles size 4 mm with Silke-Alpaca. Purl 1 row from WS and continue in moss sts – see explanation above. When piece measures 8 cm continue in stocking sts, at the same time dec 1 st each side on every 3 cm a total of 4 times = 66-74-80-90-100-112 sts. Remember knitting tension! When piece measures 23 cm inc 1 st each side on every 4.5-4.5-5-5-5.5-5.5 cm a total of 4 times = 74-82-88-98-108-120 sts. When piece measures 40-41-42-43-44-45 cm cast off for armhole each side on every other row: 3 sts 0-1-1-1-1-2 times, 2 sts 1-1-2-3-4-5 times and 1 st 1-1-1-3-5-5 times = 68-70-72-74-76-78 sts. When piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm cast off the middle 18-18-20-20-22-22 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 24-25-25-26-26-27 sts left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm. Left front piece: Cast on 47-51-54-59-64-70 sts (includes 1 edge st at side) on needles size 4 mm with Silke-Alpaca. Purl 1 row from WS and continue in moss stitch on all sts. When piece measures 8 cm continue in stocking sts with 15 sts towards mid front in moss st (= front band). At the same time dec at side as described for back piece = 43-47-50-55-60-66 sts. When piece measures 23 sts inc at side as described for back piece = 47-51-54-59-64-70 sts. At the same time when piece measures 35-37-39-41-43-45 cm inc inside 1 front band st as follows: 1 st on every 1.5 cm a total of 12 times – work inc sts in moss st. At the same time when piece measures 40-41-42-43-44-45 cm cast off for armhole as described for back piece. At the same time when piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm work 1 additional st into front band (i.e. the total number of sts remains the same, but the number of front band sts inc while number of stocking sts dec) on each 3.5-3.5-3-3-2.5-2.5 cm a total of 5-5-6-6-7-7 times. When piece measures 55-57-59-61-63-65 cm slip 27-27-28-28-29-29 sts towards mid front on a thread or stitch holder. Continue to dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 1 time = 24-25-25-26-26-27 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm. Right front piece: Cast on and work like left front piece, but mirrored. Sleeve: Cast on 55-57-59-61-63-65 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needles size 4 mm with Silke-Alpaca. Work moss st with 1 edge st each side. When piece measures 8 cm continue in stocking sts. At the same time inc 1 st each side on every 5.5-4.5-3.5-2.5-2-1.5 cm a total of 5-6-7-9-10-12 times = 65-69-73-79-83-89 sts. When piece measures 35-35-34-34-32-31 cm - NB! Shorter measurements in larger sizes due to longer sleeve cap and wider shoulders – cast off for sleeve cap each side on every other row: 4 sts 1 time, 3 times 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-1-1-2-2 times and 1 st 1-2-3-4-5-7 times, then cast off 2 sts each side until piece measures 39-40-40-41-41-42 cm. Now cast off 3 sts each side 1 time and 4 sts each side 1 time before casting off remaining sts. Piece measures approx 41-42-42-43-43-44 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves and sew sleeve and side seams in one within 1 edge st. Neckline: Pick up 100-112 sts round neckline, incl sts on thread or stitch holder. Work moss stitch on all sts. When piece measures 3 cm inc 6 sts as follows: 2 sts approx mid back and 2 sts mid each shoulder. Inc by working 3 sts in 1 st = 6 inc sts. When piece measures 6 cm cast off loosely in moss stitch. Crochet border: Crochet a border up along right front piece, round neck and down along left front piece as follows with crochet hook size 4 mm: 1 dc,* 3 ch, skip approx 2 cm, 1 dc *, repeat from *-*. Sew buttons on left front piece, the bottom button approx 25 cm from bottom edge, and the uppermost button 34-36-38-40-42-44 cm from bottom edge. Use crochet border as buttonholes. |
