For the hat on row 4 it says 2 double crochet in the first double crochet and then it just says 2 double crochet but it doesn’t say if they go in the second double crochet from the previous round. I have marked out increasing patterns following the instructions above but none get me to 91 stitches. May I ask for more clarity on the rows 4 to the row with 91 stitches?
01.12.2018 - 01:56DROPS Design answered:
Dear Barbara, on round 4 you will crochet * 2 double crochet in the same stitch (= increase), 1 double crochet in the next 2 stitches*, and repeat from *-* all the round, ie work 2 double crochet in every third stitch on the round. Happy crocheting!

What are good yarn substitutions with color combinations for this. Have finally picked this hat for me and can't wait to get started. By the way, love your patterns.

Hat: The hat is worked with double yarn and hook size 4 mm. Start with 1 strand black Camelia and 1 strand black Cotton Chenille. Work 4 chain stitches and form them to a ring with 1 slip stitch in first chain stitch. Begin all rounds with 1 chain stitch which replaces the first double crochet; and finish all rounds with 1 slip stitch. Round 1: Work 7 double crochets around ring. Round 2: Work 2 double crochets in each double crochet = 14 double crochets. Round 3: * 2 double crochets in first double crochet, 1 double crochet in next double crochet *, repeat from *-* to end of round = 7 increases = 21 double crochets. Round 4: * 2 double crochets in first double crochet, 2 double crochets *, repeat from *-* to end of round. Now increase in the same way every round but add 1 double crochet between each time you work 2 double crochets in 1 double crochet. Continue to increase until piece measures approx. 7 cm from middle, then increase every 2nd round until there are 91 stitches on round. Continue to work without increases until piece measures 19 cm from middle. Now work a round where you decrease 13 double crochets evenly on round - decrease by skipping 1 double crochet = 78 stitches. Change to 1 strand black Camelia and 1 strand dark brown tweed Cotton Chenille. Work 4 rounds, then work a brim as follows: Round 1: * 4 double crochets, 2 double crochets in next double crochet *. Repeat from *-* to end of round. Rounds 2-4: Work without increases. Round 5: * 5 double crochets, 2 double crochets in next double crochet* Repeat from*-* to end of round. Rounds 6-24: Work without increases. After 24th round, finish with 1 slip stitch in first stitch. Cut strands and fasten ends. Fold the brim twice towards wrong side. DROPS crochet scarf: Size: approx. 45 cm wide and 170 cm long. Materials: DROPS Camelia from Garnstudio 100 g colour no 04 black and use: DROPS Tynn Cotton Chenille from Garnstudio 200 g colour no 933, dark brown tweed DROPS Crochet hook size 5 mm. Crochet tension: 12 double crochets x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Remember hook size is only a guide! ----------------------------------------------------------- Scarf: The scarf is worked with double yarn and hook size 5 mm - use 1 strand black Camelia and 1 strand dark brown tweed Cotton Chenille. Work 56 chain stitches. Work Pattern - start on row 2, see diagram -, the pattern is divisible by 5 + 1 stitch. Repeat rows 4 and 5 upwards. When piece measures 170-180 cm cut the strands. Fasten ends. Make tassels as follows: cut 50 strands (of approx. 20 cm) in Cotton Chenille, tie a double strand of Camelia/Chenille (approx. 20 cm long) around middle of tassel, fold it double (= tassel is 10 cm long), wind a strand Chenille 4-5 times around tassel approx. 3 cm below fold. Make a total of 4 tassels with Chenille and fasten in each corner of scarf. |
