I’m working the men’s small medium pattern which is divisible by 24 for 11 repetitions. I don’t understand why you would start no in the beginning of the pattern. Everything looks to be centered in the picture. Since the start position of the center in theory, why offset the first stitch?
03.06.2024 - 15:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Oberman, work M.3 on each side of piece, ie start M.3 at the beg of row (side) at the arrow (= white star in 1st size men = start with the last 5 sts M.3, work M.3 a total of 5 times (5 x 24 sts) and end with the first 7 sts in M.3 (= 5+120+7=132) and repeat for the back piece. So pattern will not fit in the sides, but will be symmetrical and same on front and back piece. Happy knitting!

I’m confused by the slit neck instructions. Bind off 12 stitches. Add 5 steek stitches in the center? That leaves 4 or three dead air spaces on either side. Does the yarn just hang in the air over that distance ?
03.06.2024 - 15:17DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Oberman, you will have 5 steek stitches on each side ofr the armholes/sleeves + 5 steek stitches on mid front for the neck splitt until you cast off the middle 12-18 sts (see size), then continue back and forth casting off at the beg of each row from neck as explained. this video shows steek stitches for mid front (like for a jacket), maybe it can help?

The pattern is shown from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette stitch. The charts for Patterns 1 & 2, Pattern 5 and Patterns 6, 7, 8 & 9 are are identical for all sizes. The chart for Patterns 3 & 4 is sideways on the page and arrows indicate starting points for different sizes («dame» = women’s; «herre» = men’s). . Body: Knit the sweater in the round and cut steeks for armholes and optional neck split. Numbers in ( ) = men's sizes. Instructions in [ ] are for Alternative 2. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1, increasing 60-64-70 (58-62) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 252-264-276 (264-276) sts. Knit the rest with Pattern 3 - begin at the appropriate arrow and knit sts over the front, begin at the appropriate arrow again and knit sts over the back. At the same time, when the work measures 33-35-36 (39-41) cm , inc 5 sts on either side (these sts are for the steeks and are not knitted into the pattern). Continue with Pattern 3. Sweater with round neck: When the work measures approximately 54-56-58 (61-64) cm bind off the center front 24-26-28 (28-30) sts for the neck and knit the rest back and forth on needles. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 3 times. At the same time, when the work measures 58-60-62 (65-68) cm, bind off the center back 40-42-44 (44-46) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts on each back neck edge on the next row. Cast on 5 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row (these sts are for the steeks and are not knitted into the pattern). When the work measures 54-56-58 (61-64) cm, bind off the center 12-14-16 (16-18) sts + the 5 steek sts in the front for the neck and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. At the same time, after Pattern 1, knit Pattern 2 [Pattern 5] until the work measures approximately 38-38-37 (43-43) cm - adjust for complete pattern (approximately 11 cm of the work remains). After Pattern 2 [Pattern 5] knit Pattern 4. The work measures approximately 49-49-48 (54-54) cm. Then knit 2 cm reverse stockinette stitch for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body with coal gray. Bind off. Assembly: Sweater with round neck: Sew a marker thread in the center of the steek sts on either side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, 1st seam = 1/2 stitch from the marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 stitch from first seam. Cut steeks for armholes. Sew shoulder seams.
