------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: BEFORE MARKER: The new stitch twists to the right. Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, pick up the back strand and knit in the front loop. AFTER MARKER: The new stitch twists to the left. Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, pick up the front strand and knit in the back loop. INCREASE TIP-2 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 104 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 20) = 5.2. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 5th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. HIGH NECK: Cast on 48-56-56-56-64-64 stitches with short circular needle size 7 mm and 1 strand DROPS Wish or 2 strands DROPS Air. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 13 cm. Insert a marker at the beginning of the round (= approx. mid-back). THE PIECE IS MEASURED FROM HERE. Change to circular needle size 8 mm. YOKE: The next round is worked as follows: Knit the first 8-8-8-8-8-8 stitches and increase 0-1-1-2-2-2 stitches over these stitches (= approx. half back piece), insert marker 1 here. Knit the next 10-10-10-10-14-14 stitches (= shoulder), insert marker 2 here. Knit the next 14-18-18-18-18-18 stitches and increase 0-2-2-4-4-4 stitches over these stitches (= front piece), insert marker 3 here. Knit the next 10-10-10-10-14-14 stitches (= shoulder), insert marker 4 here. Knit the last 6-10-10-10-10-10 stitches and increase 0-1-1-2-2-2 stitches over these stitches (= approx. half back piece) = 48-60-60-64-72-72 stitches. INCREASES TO SADDLE SHOULDERS: Work stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME as you increase 4 stitches on the round as follows: Increase BEFORE markers 1 and 3 and AFTER markers 2 and 4 – read INCREASE TIP-1. You are only increasing on the front and back pieces and the number of stitches on the shoulders remains the same. Increase like this on every round a total of 16-17-18-19-21-23 times = 112-128-132-140-156-164 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! After the last increase, the piece measures approx. 11-11-12-13-14-15 cm from the marker on the neck. Now increase for the sleeves as described below. INCREASES TO SLEEVES: Work stocking stitch AT THE SAME TIME as you increase 4 stitches on the round as follows: Increase AFTER markers 1 and 3 and BEFORE markers 2 and 4 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. You are only increasing on the sleeves and the number of stitches on the front and back pieces remains the same. Increase like this on every round a total of 3-3-4-6-6-6 times, then every 2nd round 8-8-8-8-8-9 times = 156-172-180-196-212-224 stitches. The piece should now measure approx. 24-24-25-28-29-31 cm from the marker on the neck; if it is shorter than this, continue working to the correct measurement. Now divide for the body and sleeves on the next round as follows: Work the first 25-26-27-29-31-33 stitches (= approx. half back piece), place the next 30-32-34-38-42-44 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-8-8 stitches (= in side under the sleeve), work the next 48-54-56-60-64-68 stitches, place the next 30-32-34-38-42-44 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-8-8 stitches (= in side under the sleeve), work the last 23-28-29-31-33-35 stitches. The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE. BODY: = 108-120-128-136-144-152 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 19-21-22-22-21-21 cm from the division. There is approx. 7 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length. Now increase stitches to avoid the rib being tight. Knit 1 round where you increase 16-20-20-20-24-24 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 124-140-148-156-168-176 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 7 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP. The jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 30-32-34-38-42-44 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-8-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 36-38-42-46-50-52 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve (3-3-4-4-4-4 stitches on each side of the marker thread). This is the beginning of the round. Work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 4 cm from the division, decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 5½-6½-4-3-2½-2½ cm a total of 2-2-4-5-6-6 times = 32-34-34-36-38-40 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 38-37-37-35-35-34 cm from the division. There is approx. 7 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length. Knit 1 round where you increase 8-10-10-8-10-12 stitches evenly spaced = 40-44-44-44-48-52 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 7 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 7 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP. The sleeve measures 45-44-44-42-42-41 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
