------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP (for mid-under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Start 3 stitches before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The double neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down, from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 72-72-80-80-80-80-80 stitches with DROPS Snow or DROPS Andes and circular needle size 8 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Knit 1 round then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) in the round until the neck measures 9-9-9-9-10-10-10 cm. YOKE: Insert 4 markers in the piece, while decreasing evenly on the round, insert the markers between 2 stitches (these stitches are called raglan-stitches and you increase for raglan on each side of these stitches). Change to circular needle size 8 mm. Knit 2 and insert 1 marker between these 2 stitches (raglan-stitches), knit 14 and decrease 2 stitches evenly across these stitches, knit 2 and insert 1 marker between these 2 stitches (raglan-stitches), knit 18-18-22-22-22-22-22 and decrease 4-4-6-6-4-4-4 stitches evenly across these stitches, knit 2 and insert 1 marker between these 2 stitches (raglan-stitches), knit 14 and decrease 2 stitches evenly across these stitches, knit 2 and insert 1 marker between these 2 stitches (raglan-stitches), knit 18-18-22-22-22-22-22 and decrease 4-4-6-6-4-4-4 stitches evenly across these stitches = 60-60-64-64-68-68-68 stitches. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 23-23-24-24-25-25-25 stitches (approx. mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. Work stocking stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above, as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 5-5-5-6-5-3-5 times (10-10-10-12-10-6-10 rounds worked) = 100-100-104-112-108-92-108 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Now increase as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROUND 3: Knit and increase for raglan on the front and back pieces – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 5-6-6-7-8-11-11 times (20-24-24-28-32-44-44 rounds worked = 5-6-6-7-8-11-11 increases in height on the sleeves and 10-12-12-14-16-22-22 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 160-172-176-196-204-224-240 stitches. All increases for raglan are now finished. A total of 15-17-17-20-21-25-27 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 10-11-11-13-13-14-16 increases in height on the sleeves. The yoke measures approx. 21-24-24-29-30-36-39 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit the first 2 stitches (these stitches belong to the back piece), place the next 32-34-34-38-38-40-44 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12-12 stitches (mid-under sleeve), knit 48-52-54-60-64-72-76 (= front piece), place the next 32-34-34-38-38-40-44 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12-12 stitches (mid-under sleeve), knit the last 46-50-52-58-62-70-72 stitches (a total of 48-52-54-60-64-72-74 stitches on the back piece). BODY: = 112-120-128-140-152-168-176 stitches. Continue stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-53-55-57 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 20-20-24-24-28-32-32 stitches evenly on the first round = 132-140-152-164-180-200-208 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off. The jumper measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the marker mid-front and 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 32-34-34-38-38-40-44 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 40-42-44-48-50-52-56 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-12 stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 7-5½-4-3-3-2½-2 cm a total of 5-6-6-8-8-8-9 times = 30-30-32-32-34-36-38 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-41-41-37-37-31-29 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 10-14-12-12-14-12-14 stitches evenly spaced = 40-44-44-44-48-48-52 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 6 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 47-45-45-41-42-36-34 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and fasten with a couple of stitches on each side. |
