How to bind off by working 2 stitches together – slightly elastic

In this DROPS video we show you how to bind off by working 2 stitches together, instead of passing stitches over each other.


BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
We have worked a few cms of stockinette stitch, with 1 edge stitch on each side. The edge stitches are worked in garter stitch (= knitted on all rows).

THE VIDEO SHOWS:
Bind off with knit from the right side as follows: Knit 2, * insert the left needle into the 2 stitches on the right needle from left to right and knit them together, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left on the row. Cut the strand and pull it through the last stitch.

Hei Renate. Det kan den gjøre, litt avhengig av hvilket garn man strikker. Man kan unngå at det ruller seg ved å strikke noen rader/omganger med riller (1. rad/omg rett, 2. rad/omgang rett/vrang). Man kan ellers dampe kanten lett. mvh DROPS design

In this DROPS video we show you how to sew an Italian bind-off with a rib of knit 2, purl 2. Start with a long strand-end, the length depends on the number of stitches to be bind off (approx 3 - 4 times the finished length of the piece). All stitches are sewn twice before being slipped off the needle. All knitted stitches are first sewn purl-wise, then slipped off knit-wise and all purled stitches are first sewn knit-wise, then slipped off purl-wise. Begin as follows, before following points 1 to 4 below: Sew the first stitch purl-wise, pull out the strand, insert the needle from the wrong side and between stitches 2 and 3, pull out the strand, then sew stitch 3 knit-wise. Now repeat points 1-4 as described here (we show this four times in the video): 1 - Sew stitch-1 knit-wise, slip the stitch, twist the needle, sew the next stitch purl-wise and pull out the strand. 2 - Sew stitch-2 purl-wise, pull out the strand, sew stitch-3 knit-wise, pull out the strand. 3 - Sew stitch-1 knit-wise, slip the stitch, pull out the strand, sew stitch-3 purl-wise, pull out the strand and slip stitch-1. 4 - Sew stitch-1 purl-wise, pull out the strand and slip the stitch. How to join 2 pieces, then bind off with I-cord

In this DROPS video we show you how to join 2 pieces together (A and B), then binding off with an I-cord. Place all the stitches from A and B on the same needle, so that every second stitch on the needle belongs to A and B. We bind off with I-cord as follows: - Cast on 3 stitches onto the right needle. Slip the 3 stitches from the right needle onto the left needle with the working strand now situated 3 stitches in on the left needle. - ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 2, knit 3 twisted together (i.e., 1 stitch from the front piece and 1 stitch from the back piece is decreased). Slip 3 stitches from the right needle back onto the left needle. Do not turn (working like this tightens the working strand so the piece forms a small tube). - Repeat ROW 1 until there are 3 stitches left. Bind off and fasten all strands.

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian bind off to a rib with knit 1 / purl 1 by sewing the bind off edge with needle and thread. With this technique we get an elastic bind off that is perfect for example on toe up socks, edge around neck, a shawl edge or sleeve edges when working top down. Cut yarn long enough for your bind off, approx 3-4 times the length of the edge you are binding off. Part 1: Start from the right side (the first stitch should be a knit stitch). Insert the needle into the 1st stitch as if to knit, lift the stitch off the needle, insert the needle into the 2nd stitch on the left needle (= knit stitch) as if to purl. Pull the thread through these 2 stitches (= 1 stitch bind off). Part 2: Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl and lift the stitch off the needle, then insert the needle from the back side between the 1st and 2nd stitches and insert the needle through the 2nd stitch (purl stitch) as if to knit, pull the thread completely through the 2 stitches. Repeat Part 1 and Part 2 until all the stitches have been bind off. For each time Part 1 and Part 2 have been completed, 1 stitch is bind off. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian bind off in a piece work with Knit 2 Purl 2. Before starting the bind off, work 1 round where 2 knit - 2 purl becomes 1 knit - 1 purl. Cut yarn long enough for your bind off, approx 4 times the length of the edge you are binding off. 1) Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (knit stitch) as if to knit and slip the stitch of needle. 2) Insert needle into 2nd stitch (knit stitch) as if to purl. 3) Insert needle into 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl, lift the stitch off (the thread is now at the back of the work). From the back, insert the needle between 1st and 2nd stitches. 4) From the front, insert the needle into the purl stitch (2nd stitch). Repeat from the beginning.
