Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
Ridge/Garter stitch (back and forth on needle):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

Decrease tip (for sides, armholes and neck):
Decrease inside 2 edge stitches in garter stitch in the sides and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in armholes and neck.
All decreases are worked from the right side.
Decrease as follows after the 2/1 stitch(es) in garter stitch: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, K1, pass slipped stitch over. Decrease as follows before the 2/1 stitch(es) in garter stitch: K2 together.

Measuring tip: All length measurements are taken when holding the piece up; or the garment will be too long when worn.
--------------------------------------------------------

Front piece: Cast on 19-21-23-27-29 stitches over 2 needles size 20 mm and Vienna (this is done so that the cast-on edge is elastic). Pull out the one needle and work stocking stitch with 2 stitches garter stitch in the sides. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 40 cm - read Measuring tip - decrease 1 stitch in each side - see Decrease tip = 17-19-21-25-27 stitches. When piece measures 60 cm, increase 1 stitch in each side inside the garter stitches by picking up the stitch from the previous row and working it in stocking stitch = 19-21-23-27-29 stitches. When piece measures 69-71-73-75-77 cm, decrease the outermost stitch in each side for armholes. Then decrease for armholes in each side every 2nd row - see Decrease tip: 1 stitch 0-0-1-2-3 times. At the same time, when piece measures 71-74-77-78-81 cm cast off the middle stitch for neck and half the stitches are placed on 1 thread.

Side 1: Continue decreasing towards neck every 2nd row - see Decrease tip: 1 stitch 2-2-2-3-3 times = 6-7-7-7-7 stitches left on shoulder. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 stitch garter stitch towards armhole until piece measures 86-89-92-95-98 cm, loosely cast off.

Side 2: Place the stitches from the thread back on the needle and work as for side 1 - NOTE: Row 1 is worked from mid front - start by picking up 1 stitch in the stitch which was cast off and work this together with the first stitch on needle (this is done so that there is not a "jump" at the bottom of the V-neck).

Back piece: Cast on and work as for front piece, but decrease 1 stitch in each side when piece measures 30 cm and increase 1 stitch in each side when piece measures 50 cm. Decrease for armholes as for front piece and continue working until piece measures 84-87-90-93-96 cm. Now purl 1 row from the right side over the middle 7-7-7-9-9 stitches (the other stitches are knitted), then cast off all stitches, piece measures approx. 86-89-92-95-98 cm.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams - the 6-7-7-7-7 shoulder stitches from each front piece are sewn to the outermost 6-7-7-7-7 stitches in each side on back piece.
Sew side seams in outermost loop of outermost stitch until there is 10 cm left at bottom of body (= split) - make sure the seam is not tight.
Crochet a finishing edge around the V-neck with hook size 5 mm and Salsa as follows: 1 double crochet in the first stitch, * 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in next stitch *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 chain stitch and 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet at beginning of round - make sure the edge is not tight.

Crochet flower: Work 4 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm and Salsa and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch.
Round 1: Work 6 double crochets around ring and finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round.
Round 2: Work 2 double crochets in each double crochet to end of round and finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 double crochets).
Round 3: Change to Vienna and work as follows: * 4 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in next stitch *, repeat from *-* to end of round and finish with 1 slip stitch in first chain stitch at beginning of round (= 12 chain-spaces).
Round 4: Turn piece, work 1 double crochet around double crochet from previous round, * 5 chain stitches, 1 double crochet around next double crochet from previous round *, repeat from *-* to end of round and finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 chain-spaces).
