Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.
Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagrams are seen from the RS.

Measurement tip: Because of the weight of the yarn, all measurements should be made whilst the garment is hanging.

Crochet tip: For a triple tr crochet the same way as done for a tr but make 4 yo’s around the hook (instead of 2) before pulling the hook through the st in the work.

Crochet info (apply for the crochet edge): Substitute the first tr beg of round with 4 ch.

Shawl: Read Crochet tips. Crochet 5 ch and make a ring with a sl st. Then crochet according to chart M.1. Note! Crochet all tr around the ch-loops from previous row. After M.1 is completed continue the inc at the sides the same way as done earlier until the piece measures 80 cm [31½’’] in the height.

Crochet edge: Read crochet info! Crochet 1 row around all off the shawl as follows: Around the small loops (4 ch/tr) from the shawl: 3 tr, 1 ch.
Around the big loops (8ch/ triple tr) from the shawl and the ring at the beginning of the shawl: *3 tr, 1 ch*, repeat from *-* 2 times.
Continue only to crochet along the sides of the shawl – not the top edge:
1st row: 1 tr around the ch from previous row, *3 ch, skip 3 tr, 1 tr in the next ch*, repeat from *-*. Turn.
2nd row: 2 tr in the first tr,* 4 ch, 2 tr in the same tr, 1 ch, 2 tr in the next tr*, repeat from *-* until finished round.

US english translation to the diagram:

rad = row

All measurements in charts are in cm.

= ch
= tr
= triple tr – read Crochet tips
= this row is explained in the pattern, beg at the 2nd row.

Manda 26.06.2014 - 04:27:

How do you do the inc? I don't see an inc. Is it the every other row gets a 3rd trc at the end? I think there needs to be better wording for the trim too. And a few words for how to start the pattern. I can read the pattern chart well enough, but it's hard to tell where some stitches need to connect. I'm assuming the cluster on the end falls on the 4th chain?

DROPS Design 26.06.2014 kl. 09:21:

Dear Manda, you inc each side of the shawl by working 8 ch at beg of round (rounds 3, 5, 7..) and 4 ch + a triple tr at the end of row, on next row, you will have 1 dtr group more each side (rounds 4, 6, 8..). You start with 5ch, 1 sl st in 1st ch, then start with round 2: ch4, dtr2, ch1, dtr3 in ch-ring. Happy crocheting!
