------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): Alternately knit 1 round and purl 1 round. 1 ridge in height = 2 rounds. RAGLAN: The yarn overs are always worked from the wrong side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row (right side): BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it twisted (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in garter stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in garter stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when garment is worn), from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row. ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 6-6-6-6-7-7 buttonholes with 7½-7½-8-8½-7½-7½ cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the garter stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): All decreases are worked on a knitted round! Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 1 (= 2 decreased stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 128-132-144-144-148-160 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm and DROPS Nord or DROPS Alpaca. Work the first row as follows (wrong side): 7 band stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read description above, rib (purl 2, knit 2), until there are 9 stitches left on the row, purl 2 and work 7 band stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib back and forth for 2 cm – finishing after a row from the right side. If you are uncertain which side is the right side, there are 2 knitted stitches by the bands on the right side. Insert 1 marker inside one of the bands (also marks the right side); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 marker-threads, without working the stitches and inserting the threads between 2 purled stitches (seen from the right side), which are called raglan-stitches and are worked in garter stitch. Count 22-22-26-26-26-30 stitches (= left front piece), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 28 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 28-32-36-36-40-44 stitches (= back piece), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 28 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, there are 22-22-26-26-26-30 stitches left after the last marker stitch (= right front piece). Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work GARTER STITCH back and forth – read description above, with 7 band-stitches in I-cord on each side. AT THE SAME TIME, begin increasing for RAGLAN – read description above. Remember the first BUTTONHOLE and work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, increasing for raglan before and after all raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (right side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, working the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2-2-8-8-6-4 times (= 4-4-16-16-12-8 rows worked) = 144-148-208-208-196-192 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Now increase for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, increasing for raglan before and after all raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (right side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, working the yarn overs as described under Raglan. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, increasing for raglan before marker-threads 1 and 3 and after marker-threads 2 and 4, i.e., only increase on the front and back pieces, not on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (right side): Work garter stitch and the bands as before, working the yarn overs as described under Raglan. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 19-20-17-19-21-23 times (= 76-80-68-76-84-92 rows worked = you have increased 19-20-17-19-21-23 times on sleeves and 38-40-34-38-42-46 times on the front and back pieces) = 372-388-412-436-448-468 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished: you have increased a total of 40-42-42-46-48-50 times on the front and back pieces and 21-22-25-27-27-27 times on sleeves. Continue with garter stitch and the bands as before but without further increases until the yoke measures 17-18-20-21-23-25 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 62-64-68-72-74-80 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 70-72-78-82-82-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-10-14-18-26-30 stitches (under sleeve), work 108-116-120-128-136-144 stitches (= back piece), place the next 70-72-78-82-82-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-10-14-18-26-30 stitches (under sleeve), work the last 62-64-68-72-74-80 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 244-264-284-308-336-364 stitches. Work garter stitch and the bands as before until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 68-72-76-80-92-100 stitches evenly on the row as follows (do not increase across the bands) = 312-336-360-388-428-464 stitches: Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work 7 band-stitches as before, rib (knit 2, purl 2 – remember to increase) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 2 and 7 band-stitches as before. When the rib measures 1 cm, cast off a little loosely. The jacket measures approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 70-72-78-82-82-82 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-10-14-18-26-30 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 76-82-92-100-108-112 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-10-14-18-26-30 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work GARTER STITCH in the round - read description above. When the sleeve measures 2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6-4½-3-2½-2-2 cm a total of 8-10-14-16-19-20 times = 60-62-64-68-70-72 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 48-47-45-45-44-42 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 16-18-20-20-22-20 stitches evenly on the first round = 76-80-84-88-92-92 stitches. When the rib measures 1 cm, cast off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 49-48-46-46-45-43 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
