Hana

Is there a reason why you don’t knit the neck in the round ? It would avoid having to sew up the edges.
27.08.2020 - 00:38DROPS Design answered:
Dear Kristen, most people rather work garter stitch in rows than in the round, feel free to adapt the neck edge. Happy knitting!

I love this pattern! I'd like to knit it in L size but in XXXL length. How many cm do I need to measure from cast on until armholes? Thank you.
19.10.2019 - 12:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Yael, check the armhole depth you need, to either keep armhole lenght for L (then add extra length before armhole = 19 cm) or for XXXL (keep measurements from size XXXL = 22 cm). Happy knitting!

Is there a way to search the patterns by “garter stitch?” I knit “Portuguese” style and that’s the best for me. Thanks very much for this wonderful resource.
14.10.2019 - 05:51DROPS Design answered:
Dear Louise, on the home-page under "find patern" thre i s alittle window, where you can put in any kind of search word, like I did just with "garter" and it came up with these results. Happy Knitting!

04.02.2019 - 12:23DROPS Design answered:

Knitted jumper in DROPS Alpaca Bouclé. Worked back and forth in garter stitch and stripes. Size: S - XXXL
DROPS 197-35 |
|
EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. STRIPES: *Work 1 ridge brown, 1 ridge grey *, work from *-*. DECREASE TIP-1 (applies to sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side by knitting 2 stitches together. DECREASE TIP-2 (evenly): To calculate how to decrease evenly, use the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 82 stitches) and divide stitches by number of decreases to be done (e.g. 4) = 20,5. In this example work alternately approx. every 19th and 20th stitch and every 20th and 21st stitch together. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked back and forth on circular needle bottom up in parts and sewn together when finished. The entire jumper is worked in garter stitch and stripes. Sleeves are worked back and forth on circular needle, top down. JUMPER: BACK PIECE: Cast on 98-104-110-118-126-136 stitches (including 1 edge stitch in each side) on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 1 strand of each colour (= 2 strands). Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. Then work with 1 strand Alpaca Bouclé. Now work in garter stitch and STRIPES - read explanation above, until piece measures 39-40-41-42-43-44 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast off 2-2-3-3-4-4 stitches for armholes = 94-100-104-112-118-128 stitches. Continue back and forth in garter stitch and stripes. When piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm, cast off the middle 32-32-34-34-36-36 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of next row from neck = 30-33-34-38-40-45 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Cast off, but make sure to avoid a tight cast-off edge by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 5th stitch (cast off yarn over as regular stitch). Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 98-104-110-118-126-136 stitches (including 1 edge stitch in each side) on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 1 strand of each colour (= 2 strands). Work 2 ridges. Now work in garter stitch and stripes as on back piece, until piece measures 39-40-41-42-43-44 cm. At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast off 2-2-3-3-4-4 stitches for armholes = 94-100-104-112-118-128 stitches. Continue back and forth in garter stitch and stripes. When piece measures 47-49-50-52-53-55 cm, slip the middle 18-18-20-20-22-22 stitches on a stitch holder for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off stitches on every row from neck as follows: Cast off 3 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 30-33-34-38-40-45 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Cast off, but make sure to avoid a tight cast-off edge by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 5th stitch. Work the other shoulder the same way. SLEEVE: Cast on 53-56-59-62-65-68 stitches on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 1 strand brown. Work in garter stitch and stripes back and forth. When piece measures 4 cm, decrease 1 stitch inside 1 edge stitches in garter stitch in each side - read DECREASE TIP-1! Decrease like this approx. every 4-3-3-3-3-2 cm 7-8-8-9-10-11 times in total = 39-40-43-44-45-46 stitches. Continue until sleeve measures 41-40-40-38-37-35 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider shoulders). Work 2 ridges with 1 strand of each colour (= 2 strands). Cast off - make sure that the cast-off edge is not too tight. Fold up sleeve at the bottom. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside cast-off edge. Sew sleeves in body down to stitches cast off for armhole. Sew inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on body and inside cast-on edge on sleeves. Sew seam under sleeve and side seams in one inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Repeat in the other side. NECK EDGE: Work neck edge back and forth on circular needle. Begin with circular needle size 5.5 mm and 1 strand in each colour (= 2 strands) and pick up from right side 82-82-87-87-92-92 stitches (including stitches from stitch holders). Knit 1 row from wrong side. Continue by knitting 8 rows (= 4 ridges), AT THE SAME TIME on every row from right side decrease 4 stitches evenly - read DECREASE TIP-2 = 66-66-71-71-76-76 stitches. Work 2 more ridges. Cast off - make sure that the cast-off edge is not too tight. Sew neck edge together in outer loops of edge stitches. |
