Hello, I wonder why is the gauge in garter stitch ? I only see ribbing, seed stitch and stocking stitch, so why the garter for gauge ? Thanks!

Dear Pauline, you will find for each piece both tension in garter st and stocking st (depending on needle size). Happy knitting!

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN: MOSS STITCH: ROW/ROUND 1: * Knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROW/ROUND 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat row/round 2. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Cast on (68) 80-92-96-104 (112-116) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and light grey. Work rib (= knit 2 / purl 2) for (2) 2-3-3-3 (4-4) cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8 stitches evenly on round = (60) 72-84-88-96 (104-108) stitches. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures (3) 3-4-4-4 (5-5) cm, change to yellow. Knit 1 round, purl 1 round, then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. (4½) 4½-5½-5½-5½ (6½-6½) cm. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Change to light grey and work stocking stitch. When the piece measures (10) 11-12-13-14 (14-15) cm, insert (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) markers in the piece with (10) 9-12-11-12-13-12 stitches between each. On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker by knitting the first 2 stitches together after each marker (= (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of (6) 6-6-6-6 (7-7) times = (24) 24-42-40-48 (48-45) stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = (12) 12-21-20-24 (24-23) stitches. SIZES 1/3 - 6/9 -12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS: Knit 1 round. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 11-10-12 (12-12) stitches. ALL SIZES: Pull a double strand through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures approx. (14) 15-16-17-18 (19-20) cm. BOW: Cast on 12 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and yellow. Work moss stitch back and forth until the piece measures approx. 8 cm. Cast off. Wind a yellow strand 6 times around the middle of the bow to make a band. Fasten the bow to the yellow section on the hat. ---------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS: Cast on 44-48 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and light grey. Knit 1 round. Work rib (= knit 2 /purl 2) for 2-2 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Then knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8-10 stitches evenly on round = 36-38 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch. When the piece measures 3-3-4 (6-7) cm, change to yellow, knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. 4½-4½ cm. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Change back to light grey and continue in stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 8-11 cm, decrease 0-2 stitches evenly on round = 36-36 stitches (there are now approx. 2 cm left to finished length). Continue with stocking stitch and decrease as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 30-30 stitches. ROUND 2: Work stocking stitch. ROUND 3: * Knit 3 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 24-24 stitches. ROUND 4: Work stocking stitch. ROUND 5: * Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 18-18 stitches. ROUND 6: Work stocking stitch. ROUND 7: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 9-9 stitches. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The mitten measures 10-13 cm. BOW: Cast on 9-10 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and yellow. Work moss stitch until the piece measures approx. 6-6 cm. Cast off. Wind a yellow strand 6 times around the middle of the bow, to make a band. Fasten the bow to the yellow section on the mitten. Work 1 more bow and fasten in the same way on the other mitten. ---------------------------------------------------------- For body see DROPS number 31-10. ---------------------------------------------------------- |
