Hello, I got confused with your measurements. It says "When piece measures 17-19-22 cm.." to start increases. To me, the 17-19-22 cm seem to be way too far. Even looking at your photo, we can see that increases start much earlier (it seems that for my size 38/40 I would need to start the increases already after 9 cm , not after 19 cm... Can you please clarify this as the measurements in your description somehow don't seem to match the photo...

Here I am again.:-s I'm knitting the short rows over the heel. On my 5th needle, I let 3 sts on the end? Or still 2?
14.12.2014 - 18:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Louise, heel is worked in 2 parts with short rows, on 1st part, you leave 1 st unworked at the end of each row until you have 13-15-17 sts on middle on heel, then you work 2nd part working 1 more st at the end of each row until all sts have been worked back on needle (picking up sts avoid to get holes at transitions). Happy knitting!

I'm so sorry. I have another problem. I tried to add the sts. Add First sts: grey, second sts (with marker) : red, add third sts. But when I do the second round, it's impossible to get the A1 pattern right. Because when I want to add sts, I will have always 2 sts in the same colour next to each other. I did something wrong I guess but can't find it.
08.12.2014 - 21:39DROPS Design answered:
Dear Louise, increase are done alternately in red and light grey following A.1 will keep you then the vertical stripes, but the sts with a marker each side are worked in red, so that you will have sometimes 2 sts red next to each other to next inc done in light grey. Happy knitting!

If you talk about the first needle. Is it the needle you start knitting with (so in this case the one with the larges nr sts)? Or is it the needle you put your sts on in the beginning? I hope you understand my problem.
07.12.2014 - 22:28DROPS Design answered:
Dear Louise, when you have cast on all your sts, you distribute all sts onto 2 dpn, 1st needle will be the needle with the first sts you cast on - you can place different markers to mark beg of round and side, it can be then easier to continue. Happy knitting!

Knitted DROPS toe up socks with Nordic pattern in ”Karisma”.

MAGIC CIRCLE: To avoid holes in the middle beg with this technique: Hold yarn end in the left hand and make a loop around left index finger (from left to right). Hold the loop with left thumb and index finger. Insert needle through loop, get yarn from ball and pull yarn back through loop, 1 YO (i.e get strand from the back and towards you) and pull YO through st on needle, * insert needle through loop, 1 YO, pull YO through loop, 1 YO and pull YO through outermost st on right needle (i.e. the last st made) *, repeat from *-* until there are 8-12-16 sts on needle. Distribute sts on 2 double pointed needles size 3.5 mm as explained in pattern – AT THE SAME TIME pull the tail to tighten the circle and close the hole. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. Work entire pattern in stocking st. INCREASE TIP: Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. On next round work YO twisted to avoid holes. Work inc sts in A.1, i.e. first st in wine red, next st in light grey etc. KNITTING TIP: If the knitting tension is incorrect in no of rows vertically on 10 cm, it will affect the length of sock for the calculated inc. If you have more rows vertically on 10 cm work sock somewhat longer before beg inc. If you have fewer rows vertically on 10 cm work sock somewhat shorter before beg inc. SHORT ROWS OVER HEEL: Work back and forth according to diagram A.3. ROW 1 (= RS): K until 1 st remains, turn piece. ROW 2 (= WS): Slip first st as if to P, tighten yarn and P until 1 st remains, turn piece. ROW 3 (= RS): Slip first st as if to K, tighten yarn and K until 2 sts remain, turn piece. ROW 4 (= WS): Slip first st as if to P, tighten yarn and P until 2 sts remain, turn piece. Continue short rows the same way until 13-15-17 sts remain in the middle of row. Insert 1 marker. Continue back and forth but now work 1 st more for every row over heel. To avoid holes in the transitions, before last st pick up horizontal strand twisted on to needle (the strand that is picked up should be the same colour as the st it will be worked tog with). Work strand tog with next st (from RS K strand and st tog and from WS P strand and st tog). Work like this until all heel sts have been worked. ---------------------------------------------------------- SOCK: Worked from the toe and up. Beg with wine red and MAGIC CIRCLE – see explanation above = 8-12-16 sts divided on 2 double pointed needles (there should be 5-7-9 sts on first needle (= on top of foot) and 3-5-7 sts on second needle (= under foot). Insert 1 marker in 1st st at beg of round and 1 marker in the 5th-7th-9th st on first needle (= 2 markers). Then continue pattern in the round according to diagram A.1. Sts with markers should be in wine red. AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round inc 1 st on each side of both sts with markers – READ INCREASE TIP (= 4 sts inc). Repeat inc every round 5 more times (= 6 times in total), then every other round 4 times in total = 48-52-56 sts (i.e. 25-27-29 sts on top of foot and 23-25-27 sts under foot). Work next round as follows: Work A.1 (= 2 sts), work pattern according to diagram A.2 (see markings for correct size = 21-23-25 sts), then work pattern according to diagram A.3 over the other 25-27-29 sts (i.e. stripes from toe continue under foot and markers are still in a wine red st in each side on top of foot). When piece measures approx. 14-16-19 cm from toe (approx. 8 cm remain until finished length measurements) – READ KNITTING TIP, inc 1 st before first marker and 1 st after second marker (i.e. towards the under side of sock) – READ INCREASE TIP (= 2 sts inc – work inc sts in A.3). Repeat inc every other round 7 more times (= 8 inc in total in each side) = 64-68-72 sts on needle (i.e. 25-27-29 sts on top of foot and 39-41-43 sts under foot). Slip the 25-27-29 middle sts on top of foot + the 8 inc sts on each side of these on 1 stitch holder = 23-25-27 sts remain on needle for heel. Then work SHORT ROWS OVER HEEL over these 23-25-27 sts – see explanation above. After short rows over heel, continue A.3 back and forth over the 23-25-27 sts on heel - AT THE SAME TIME at the end of every row (both from RS and WS), work last st on needle tog with outermost st on stitch holder (from RS K the 2 sts twisted tog and from WS P the 2 sts tog). Continue back and forth like this until the 8 outermost sts in each side on stitch holder have been worked tog with outermost st on heel. Slip the other 25-27-29 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 48-52-56 sts on needle. Work next round as follows: Work A.1 (= 2 sts), continue A.2 over the next 21-23-25 sts as before, work A.3 (= 2 sts), work A.4A over the next 22-24-26 sts AT THE SAME TIME in size 35/37 inc 2 sts evenly over these sts and in size 41/43 dec 2 sts evenly over these sts so that pattern fits (there are no inc/dec in size 38/40), finish round with A.4B (= 1 st) = 50-52-54 sts on needle. Continue pattern in the round. When sock measures approx. 18-19-16 cm from marker on heel (shorter measurements in the largest size because of longer foot) – finish pattern after round marked with arrow in diagram (choose arrow for correct size – pattern in A.2 will then end in a half or a whole flower), work 1 round with wine red over all sts. Work 1 round with light grey while AT THE SAME TIME inc 4-8-6 sts evenly = 54-60-60 sts. Then work pattern according to diagram A.5 (= 9-10-10 repetitions on round). When A.5 has been worked 1 time vertically, switch to wine red. Work rib = K 1/P 1. When rib measures 2 cm, loosely cast off with K over K and P over P. Sock measures approx. 24-25-22 cm vertically from marker on heel. Knit another sock the same way. |
