Hi there! I'm having trouble understanding the instructions for decreasing for the neckline. 1) I'm stuck on "every 4 rows 2 times." I don't understand how many groups of 4 rows this results in. And 2) I don't understand the instruction to also decrease before the 7 button band stitches. Should I be decreasing two rows in a row? Thanks in advance for your great help! Durga

Dear Mrs Walker, to dec every 4th row work as follows: *work 1 row with dec, work 3 rows without dec*, repeat from *-* a total of 2 times = you have dec every 4th row a total of 2 times. To dec for neck on right front piece, work sts from RS until 9 sts remain on needle (= 7 sts front band sts + 2 sts), dec the next 2 sts and finish with the 7 front band sts. Happy knitting!

Back: Cast on 101-108-115-122-129-137 sts with brown/beige Bomull-Lin. Knit 4 rows garter st, then knit stockinette st. When the piece measures 20 cm dec 1 st at each side every 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm a total of 5 times = 91-98-105-112-119-127 sts. When the piece measures 51-52-53-54-55-56 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 0-1-1-2-3-4 times and 1 st 2-2-3-3-4-5 times = 81-84-89-92-93-95 sts. Change to beige multi Bomull-Lin and stockinette st to finished measurements. When the piece measures 68-70-72-74-76-78 cm bind off the center 29-28-29-28-29-29 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 25-27-29-31-31-32 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 70-72-74-76-78-80 cm. Right front: Cast on 58-61-65-68-72-76 sts with brown/beige Bomull-Lin. Knit 4 rows garter st, but knit the 7 buttonband sts at the center front edge as follows (seen from the right side): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), K 2, P 1, K 2 and P 1 (= buttonband). Then knit stockinette st, keeping buttonband as established, and make buttonholes – see instructions above. When the piece measures 20 cm bind off at the side as on back = 53-56-60-63-67-71 sts. Read the entire next section before knitting: Neckband: When the piece measures 47-48-50-51-52-53 cm dec 1 st for the neck – see knitting tips: every 4 rows 2 times, every other row 10-9-10-9-10-10 times and every 4 rows 4 times. Armhole: When the piece measures 51-52-53-54-55-56 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back. Stripe: When the piece measures 57-58-59-60-61-62 cm change to rust Muskat. Knit 2 rows garter st (1st row = right side), then P 1 row – keep the buttonband sts as before. Change to beige multi Bomull-Lin and stockinette st, keeping and buttonband sts the same, to finished measurements. After all armhole and neck shaping is complete 32-34-36-38-38-39 sts remain (= 25-27-29-31-31-32 shoulder sts + 7 buttonband sts). When the piece measures 70-72-74-76-78-80 cm bind off the 25-27-29-31-31-32 shoulder sts. Continue with buttonband as follows (seen from the right side): K 1 (edge st in garter st), K 2, P 1, K 2 and K 1 (edge st in garter st) until edge measures approx. 7.5-8 cm (to reach center back, but a little tight), put sts on st holder. Left front: Cast on and knit the same as the right men, reversing shaping and omitting buttonholes. Sleeve: Cast on 46-47-49-51-53-55 sts with rust Muskat and knit stockinette st for 2 cm (for rolled edge). Change to beige multi Bomull-Lin – measure the work from here – and knit stockinette st. When the piece measures 11 cm inc 1 st at each side every 3.5-3-2.5-2.5-2-2 cm a total of 10-12-13-13-14-15 times = 66-71-75-77-81-85 sts. When sleeve measures 47-46-45-44-42-41 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, then bind off 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 50 cm, then bind off 3 sts 1 time. Bind off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 51 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Neckband: Weave the two neckbands together at center back and sew to neck (the edge should be a little tight). Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams using edge sts as a seam allowance. Sew on buttons. |
