Hello I’m confused by the moss stitch rib. It says “moss-stitch rib (purl 1, 1 garter stitch)” - does that mean purl 1, knit 1? Also it says on the first row that when there are 7 stitches left, purl 1 and then band stitch 6. However for size small, the 7 stitch doesn’t land naturally on a purl. Is that right? Thanks

Hi Isabelle,
It's essentially a variation on rib stitch, where you knit one stockinette stitch and one garter stitch. The stockinette stitch is knitted from right side and purled from wrong side. The garter stitch is knitted from right side and knitted from wrong side. On the first row, the idea is to stop 7 stitches before the end, then purl one, and then work the band stitches.

Hi Annie, moss-stitch rib: on the right side you knit all stitches, on the wrong side you repeat purl 1, knit 1. Happy knitting!

A ver si me podéis ayudar. Gracias
11.07.2025 - 19:49DROPS Design answered:

For pattern Coffee Ridge Vest, how do I work the 24 increased stitches by increasing 7 on each side? 1st row is only total of 2 increases. 3rd is also 2 increases. Instructions say to only work Rows 1-4 three times, that would be a total of only 12 increases. Thanks.
26.05.2025 - 20:20DROPS Design answered:
Hi Christine, You increase "inside" the 7 outermost stitches on each side (after the first 7 stitches and before the last 7 stitches on the row). You increase 1 stitch each side on rows 1 and 3 (2 stitches increased each row) and work rows 1-4 x 6 = 24 increased stitches in total. Regards, Drops Team.

For the pattern Coffee Ridge Vest, beginning from the wrong side, do you mean Row 1: Purl One, Knit One Row 2: Knit
01.05.2025 - 21:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Grace, correct, that way the P stitch from wrong side will be the stitch in stocking stitch (the K1 in the rib) while the K stitch from wrong side will be the stitch in garter stitch. Happy knitting!

Hei, jeg prøver å strikke økningen på 1-4 pinne. Det står at det skal gjøres totalt 3 ganger, men da kommer jeg bare fram til 12 m økt. Er det 3 økninger eller 6?
01.03.2025 - 20:01DROPS Design answered:
Hej Anna, du øker 1 maske i hver side (= 2 masker) på pind 1 og pind 3 (= 4 masker) det gør du 6 gange 4 x 6 = 24 masker økt :)

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS RIGHT: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side (band = 6 stitches). ROW 1 (right side): Knit together the 3rd and 4th stitches from the edge, make 1 yarn over, finish the row as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the piece measures 10-10-9-10-10-10 cm. Then work the other buttonholes when the piece measures: S: 19 and 28 cm M: 19 and 28 cm L: 16, 23 and 30 cm XL: 17, 24 and 31 cm XXL: 18, 26 and 34 cm XXXL: 19, 28 and 37 cm (the last buttonhole is worked before starting to decrease for the V-neck). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth from mid-front and bottom up as far as the armholes. Then the piece is divided and the front and back pieces are finished separately. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. BODY: Cast on 175-192-210-228-256-278 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Work 4 ridges – see GARTER STITCH in explanations above (= 8 rows). Work the next row from the right side as follows: Work 6 band-stitches in garter stitch, knit until there are 6 stitches left on the row AT THE SAME TIME increasing 16-17-19-21-23-27 stitches across these stitches, 6 band-stitches in garter stitch = 191-209-229-249-279-305 stitches. Now work pattern as follows from the wrong side: 6 band-stitches as before, moss-stitch rib (purl 1, 1 garter stitch) until there are 7 stitches left, purl 1, 6 band-stitches as before. Continue with garter stitch and moss-stitch rib (1 stocking stitch, 1 garter stitch) and begin increasing inside 7 stitches on each side - read INCREASE TIP, as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work 6 band-stitches as before, knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the moss-stitch rib (i.e., all stitches knitted from the right side) until there are 7 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, 6 band-stitches as before (= 2 increased stitches). The increased stitches are worked in moss-stitch rib onwards. ROW 2 (wrong side): 6 band-stitches as before, purl 2, moss-stitch rib (1 garter stitch, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, purl 2, 6 band-stitches as before. ROW 3 (right side): Same as ROW 1. ROW 4 (wrong side): 6 band-stitches as before, purl 1, work moss-stitch rib (1 garter stitch, purl 1) until there are 6 stitches left, 6 band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1-4 a total of 6 times (= 24 increased stitches) = 215-233-253-273-303-329 stitches. Continue the moss-stitch rib and bands in garter stitch on each side – remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read description above. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 22-23-24-25-26-27 cm, work as follows: 6 band-stitches as before, continue the moss-stitch rib across the next 45-47-51-55-61-67 stitches, work 11-17-19-21-23-25 garter stitches, continue the moss-stitch rib across the next 91-93-101-109-123-133 stitches, work 11-17-19-21-23-25 garter stitches, continue the moss-stitch rib across the next 45-47-51-55-61-67 stitches, 6 band-stitches as before. When the piece measures 24-25-26-27-28-29 cm divide for the armholes. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: On the next row from the right side, work 54-56-60-64-70-76 stitches as before (= band + front piece), cast off the next 5-11-13-15-17-19 stitches, work 97-99-107-115-129-139 stitches as before (= back piece), cast off the next 5-11-13-15-17-19 stitches, work the last 54-56-60-64-70-76 stitches as before (= front piece + band). On each side of the armholes there are 3 garter stitches. The front and back pieces are finished separately. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 54-56-60-64-70-76 stitches. From the wrong side: Continue the moss-stitch rib and garter stitch back and forth. AT THE SAME TIME on each row from the right side, decrease for the armholes as follows: Work 3 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), continue the moss-stitch rib until there are 6 stitches left, 6 band-stitches as before. Decrease like this a total of 6-4-6-6-10-12 times (12-8-12-12-20-24 rows worked) = 48-52-54-58-60-64 stitches. When the piece measures 28-28-30-31-34-37 cm, decrease for the V-neck on each row from the right side as follows: Work as before until there are 8 stitches left, knit 2 together, 6 band-stitches as before (= 1 stitch decreased). Decrease like this a total of 18-20-20-22-24-26 times = 30-32-34-36-36-38 shoulder-stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm. Now work diagonal shoulders as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Cast off the first 8-8-8-9-9-10 stitches, work to end of row as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before. Work ROWS 1-2 a total of 3 times = 6-8-10-9-9-8 shoulder-stitches. Cast off with knit from the right side. The vest measures approx. 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from top of shoulder. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: = 54-56-60-64-70-76 stitches. From the wrong side: Continue the moss-stitch rib and garter stitch back and forth. AT THE SAME TIME on each row from the right side, decrease for the armholes as follows: Work as before until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), 3 garter stitches as before. Decrease like this a total of 6-4-6-6-10-12 times (12-8-12-12-20-24 rows worked) = 48-52-54-58-60-64 stitches – remember the remaining BUTTONHOLES. When the piece measures 28-28-30-31-34-37 cm, decrease for the V-neck on each row from the right side as follows: Work 6 band-stitches as before, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), work to end of row as before. Decrease like this a total of 18-20-20-22-24-26 times = 30-32-34-36-36-38 shoulder-stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm. Now work diagonal shoulders as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Cast off the first 8-8-8-9-9-10 stitches, work to end of row as before. Work ROWS 1-2 a total of 3 times = 6-8-10-9-9-8 shoulder-stitches. Cast off with knit from the right side. The vest measures approx. 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from top of shoulder. BACK PIECE: = 97-99-107-115-129-139 stitches. Work as follows from the wrong side: Continue the moss-stitch rib, with 3 garter stitches on each side. AT THE SAME TIME decrease for the armholes on each row from the right side as follows: Work 3 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), work as before until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), 3 garter stitches. Decrease like this a total of 6-4-6-6-10-12 times (12-8-12-12-20-24 rows worked) = 85-91-95-103-109-115 stitches. When the piece measures 43-45-47-49-51-53 cm, continue the pattern but now with garter stitch across the middle 37-39-39-43-49-51 stitches. When the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm, cast off the middle 21-23-23-27-33-35 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDERS: = 32-34-36-38-38-40 stitches. Cast off 2 stitches on the next row from the neckline = 30-32-34-36-36-38 shoulder-stitches. Then cast off for the diagonal shoulder at the beginning of each row from the shoulder as follows: Cast off the first 8-8-8-9-9-10 stitches, work to the end of the row as before. Cast off like this a total of 3 times = 6-8-10-9-9-8 shoulder-stitches. Cast off. The piece measures approx. 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from top of shoulder. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams, stitch to stitch along the diagonal shoulders (30-32-34-36-36-38 stitches on each seam). Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
