The question above, regarding adding more rows to the shawl before beginning the English Rib knit (at 453 stitches), refers to Cheers to Spring by DROPS Design pattern.

With this pattern, how can I add more rows before beginning the English knit section? I’d like my shawl to be longer. Is there a formula for how many stitches will allow for the pattern to repeat accurately- for instance, the pattern might work out to multiples of 6. Right now the pattern calls for beginning the English Rib stitch at 453 stitches. I’d like to add another 2” or so, but then my stitch count will be greater than 453 stitches. Hope this makes the question clear.

Dear Mrs Rothstein Brewer, we are unfortunately not able to adjust every pattern to every single request, please contact your DROPS store or any knitting forum for any individual assistance. Thanks for your comprehension. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

How do I make a yarn over at the beginning of the row?
11.10.2020 - 04:49DROPS Design answered:
Dear Christl Miarka, just bring the yarn over the needle to make a loop over it, then knit the first stitch, thus you added one stitch there. Happy Knitting.

Bon tricot!

Piece measures approx. 22 cm from cast-on edge. ROW 9 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 88 times in total and knit 3 (= 90 stitches increased), = 359 stitches on needle. Work ROWS 1-2 23 times in total = 453 stitches on needle. Piece measures approx. 34 cm from cast-on edge. Now continue piece in English rib as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit 1, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise *, work from *-* until 2 stitches remain, finish with knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (= wrong side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit yarn over and slipped stitch together *, work from *-* until 2 stitches remain, finish with 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, 1 stitch in garter stitch. ROW 3 (= right side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit yarn over and slipped stitch together, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, work from *-* until 1 yarn over and 2 stitches remain, knit yarn over and slipped stitch together and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Repeat 2nd and 3rd ROW until approx. 6 cm with English rib have been worked. Piece measures approx. 40 cm, adjust so that next row is from right side. CAST-OFF: To avoid a tight cast-off edge, cast off yarn overs as stitches (to that 1 stitch + 1 stitch with yarn over becomes 3 stitches when casting off). Cast off by knitting from right side over all stitches and yarn overs. If the edges still is tight use a larger needle size for cast-off. Fasten off. |
