Bon tricot!

I'm working on the back piece of this pattern - I have 42 stitches on the needle but it only measures just under 8 inches. I knit a row then for the next 2 rows decreased 1 at the beginning of each row then knit one row again then decreased for 2 rows again etc. What did I do wrong?
17.07.2022 - 17:04DROPS Design answered:
Dear Asher and Barbara, when the back piece 6 1/4" cast off 3 stitches at the start of each row, both from the right side and the wrong side. In the next row from the RS decrease only 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row. *Work 1 row without decreases (WS), then on next row from the RS decrease 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row. * Repeat *-* once more. Now, you should have 42 stitches. Work straight (without decreases) until the back piece measures 10 5/8". Happy knitting!

Can you think of another way to join both sides of the front together as I don't care for the cones - perhaps some plain crotched strings knotted at the ends that could just be tied together?
23.02.2022 - 03:06DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Frankel, you can add a bead, a tassel, a pompon or anything you like to. Happy knitting!

Cast off when piece measures 28-31-34-36-38 cm (or slip sts on a stitch holder). RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work as left front piece but reversed. ASSEMBLY: Sew or use grafting/kitchener stitches to work the shoulders tog. Sew side seams tog edge to edge in front loop of outermost sts. TIES: Crochet 1 tie with Nepal on hook size 3.5 mm on each side of neck. Start with 1 dc in outermost st where dec for neck beg. Crochet approx. 18-18-20-20-22 cm with ch. Now work a cone at the end of the ch-row as follows: Form a ring with 1 sl st in 4th ch from hook, this is the top of the cone. ROUND 1: Work 4 dc in ch-ring. ROUND 2: 2 dc in every dc = 8 dc. ROUND 3: * 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the rest of the round = 12 dc. ROUND 4-5: 1 dc in every dc = 12 dc. ROUND 6: * 1 dc in first dc, then crochet 2 dc tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 8 dc. ROUND 7: 1 dc in every dc = 8 dc. ROUND 8: Work all dc tog 2 by 2 = 4 dc. Cut the thread, baste it up and down through sts, pull the thread to tighten and fasten tightly. |
