Hi Where does the lobster stitch come in? As the whole pattern doesn’t mention lobster stitch at all. Am I missing something or not understanding. Debbie

Dear Ms Pultrone, the lobster st is meant as an option for nicer edge. We mention it at the end of the paragraph Finishing edge. Happy crocheting!

Bon crochet !

Another question that I just need clarification on: On the sleeve, I marked at 5cm and it says measure the work from here. Then the following line says when the piece measures 10cm start the increases. Does it mean 10cm from the beginning, or 10cm from where I marked?
14.11.2012 - 16:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Brunner, you mark the first 5 cm for the cuff, this part will be then folded at the end. You have to take all further measurements from this marker. Happy Knitting!

I am currently working on this beautiful sweater for my daughter. I'm confused in the sleeve section and wonder if there's a typo. It has the smallest size going the longest length before binding off for sleeve cap. That would only leave 7 cm between starting the binding off and the total length of the sleeve, not allowing enough rows for binding off. Is it possible those numbers (49-48-48-46-44) are written backwards and for a small I should start binding off at 44cm?
14.11.2012 - 15:47DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Brunner, pattern match the measurement chart. For the smallest size, you will have a shorter sleeve cap but a longer sleeve. Happy Knitting!

DROPS 91-11 |

Crochet tension: Remember hook size is only a guide. 12 double crochets/double treble crochets in width and approx. 4 rows in height (i.e. 1 row of double crochets + 1 row double treble crochets x 4) with hook size 5 mm and Alaska = 10 x 10 cm. NOTE: Due to different crochet techniques, the crochet tension can vary from person to person; you can increase or decrease a hook size if necessary to get the right tension. Crochet info: First double crochet on each row of double crochets is replaced by 1 chain stitch and first double treble crochet on each row of double treble crochets is replaced by 4 chain stitches. Each row of double crochets finishes with 1 double crochet in 4th chain stitch at beginning of previous row and each row of double treble crochets finishes with 1 double treble crochet in first chain stitch at beginning of previous row. Textured pattern: * 1 row of double crochets, 1 row of double treble crochets *, repeat from *-* to finished length - NOTE: Work in each double crochet /double treble crochet from previous row, not between. Decrease tip: NOTE: Decrease only on rows of double treble crochets. Decrease as follows at beginning of row: Replace 1 double treble crochet with 1 slip stitch. Decrease as follows at end of row: Turn piece when you have remaining the number of double treble crochets to be decreased and work back. Lobster stitch: A row of lobster stitches is the same as a row of double crochets but the row is worked backwards. I.e. you work from left to right. Back piece: Read Crochet info! Work 79-84-91-99-108 fairly loose chain stitches (incl. 4 chain stitches to turn) with hook size 5 mm and Alaska. The first row is worked as follows: Work 1 double treble crochet in the 5th chain stitch from the hook, then work 1 double treble crochet in each of the next 2 chain stitches * skip 1 chain stitch, 1 double treble crochet in each of the next 3 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* to end of row - NOTE: In Sizes M + XXL finish with 1 double treble crochet in each of the last 4 chain stitches (instead of the last 3 chain stitches) = 58-62-67-73-80 double treble crochets, turn piece. Then work Textured Pattern - see description above. Remember the crochet tension. When piece measures 15 cm - adjust so that the next row is a row of double treble crochets - decrease 1 double treble crochet in each side - see Decrease tip. Repeat the decrease when piece measures approx. 30 and 45 cm = 52-56-61-67-74 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When piece measures approx. 57-58-59-60-61 cm decrease for armholes in each side every row of double treble crochets - see Decrease tip: 3 double treble crochets 1-1-1-1-2 times, 2 double treble crochets 0-1-1-2-2 times and 1 double treble crochet 1-1-3-3-3 times = 44-44-45-47-48 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When piece measures approx. 73-75-77-79-81 cm (there is now just 1 row of double crochets left + 1 row of double treble crochets), work 1 row over just the 16-16-16-17-17 double crochets/ double treble crochets in each side (do not work over the middle 12-12-13-13-14 double crochets/ double treble crochets = neck). Work back 1 row and cut the strand, piece measures approx. 76-78-80-82-84 cm. Left front piece: Work 40-43-47-51-55 fairly loose chain stitches (incl. 4 chain stitches to turn) with hook size 5 mm and Alaska. The first row is worked as follows: Work 1 double treble crochet in the 5th chain stitch from the hook, then work 1 double treble crochet in each of the next 2 chain stitches * skip 1 chain stitch, 1 double treble crochet in each of the next 3 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* to end of row - NOTE: In Size S finish with 1 double treble crochet in each of the last 4 chain stitches (instead of the last 3 chain stitches) = 29-31-34-37-40 double treble crochets, turn piece. Then work Textured Pattern as for back piece. When piece measures approx. 20, 35 and 50 cm (instead of 15, 30 and 45 cm) decrease in the side as for back piece = 26-28-31-34-37 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When piece measures approx 57-58-59-60-61 cm - adjust to match back piece - decrease for armhole in side as for back piece = 22-22-23-24-24 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When piece measures approx 66-68-70-72-74 cm decrease the 4 outermost double treble crochets towards mid front for neck - see Decrease tip. Then decrease towards neck on each row of double treble crochets: 2 double treble crochets 0-0-1-1-1 time and 1 double treble crochet 2-2-1-1-1 times = 16-16-16-17-17 double crochets/ double treble crochets left on shoulder. Continue working until piece measures the same length as the back piece and cut strand. Right front piece: Work as for left, but reversed. Sleeve: Work 42-42-43-43-45 fairly loose chain stitches (incl. 4 chain stitches to turn) with hook size 5 mm and Alaska. The first row is worked as follows: 1 double treble crochet in 5th chain stitch from hook, * skip 1 chain stitch, 1 double treble crochet in each of the next 3 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* to end of row - NOTE: In Sizes S + M finish with 1 double treble crochet in each of the last 4 chain stitches (instead of the last 3 chain stitches) and in Sizes L + XL finish with 1 double treble crochet in each of the last 5 chain stitches (instead of the last 3 chain stitches) = 30-30-31-31-32 double treble crochets, turn piece. Then work Textured Pattern as for the body. When piece measures 5 cm insert 1 marker thread in each side (= cuff) - the piece is now measured from here! When piece measures 10 cm increase in each side by working 1 extra double crochet/ double treble crochet in the next outermost double crochet/ double treble crochet in each side every 9-6-5-4-3.5 cm a total of 5-7-8-9-10 times = 40-44-47-49-52 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When piece measures 49-48-48-46-44 cm decrease for sleeve cap in each side on every row of double treble crochets - see Decrease tip: 4 double treble crochets 1 time and 3 double treble crochets 1 time, then 2 double treble crochets in each side until piece measures approx. 56-57-58-58-58 cm, cut the strand. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams edge to edge with small, neat stitches. Bands: Remember Crochet info! Work approx. 78 to 90 double crochets along the left front piece with hook size 5 mm and Alaska (there should be approx. 2 double crochets around each double treble crochet and 1 double crochet around each double crochet) - make sure the band is neat and even; do not work too many or too few double crochets. Then work 1 row of double crochets, 1 row of double treble crochets and 1 row of double crochets before cutting the strand. Repeat along right front piece. Collar: Work approx. 40 to 46 double crochets around neck (not over bands) with hook size 5 mm and Alaska - start working from the right side. Then work Textured Pattern as before with 1 row of double treble crochets and 1 row of double crochets. When the collar measures approx. 3 cm increase 5 double crochets/ double treble crochets evenly spaced from shoulder to shoulder in back of neck = approx. 45 to 51 double crochets/ double treble crochets. When collar measures 10-10-10-13-13 cm - adjust to after 1 row of double treble crochets - cut the strand. Finishing edge: Work 1 row of double crochets around the opening of the jacket with hook size 5 mm and Alaska - start at bottom of right front piece, work up the band, then around collar and down the left band - work approx. 1 double crochet in each double crochet/ double treble crochet. You can also work a row of lobster stitches just around the collar to finish. Crochet button: Work 2 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm and Alaska. Then work 6 double crochets in the first of the 2 chain stitches, finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet worked (= Round 1). Round 2: 1 chain stitch, work 2 double crochets in each double crochet and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 double crochets). Rounds 3 + 4: 1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in each double crochet and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 double crochets). Round 5: 1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in every other double crochet and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet at beginning of round (= 6 double crochets). Put the button in the cover, tack around the opening and pull tight. Sew the buttons onto the left band, evenly spaced - top button should be approx. 1 cm from the top and the bottom button approx. 30 cm from the bottom edge. Use the gaps between the double treble crochets on the right band as buttonholes. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams in one go - sew edge to edge with small neat stitches. Fold up the bottom 5 cm on each sleeve and sew a couple of stitches so the cuff stays in place. Belt: Work 13 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm and Alaska. The first row is worked as follows: 1 treble crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook, then work 1 treble crochet in each of the next 9 chain stitches = 11 treble crochets. Then work Textured Pattern as for the jacket, but instead of working double treble crochets work treble crochets (double crochets worked as before). When the belt measures approx. 2 cm fold the end of the belt around the buckle and work the end together with the belt by working double crochets/ treble crochets on next row through both layers so that the buckle is held in place. Continue Textured Pattern until the belt measures approx. 85-90-95-100-105 cm - or to desired length. Now finish the last row by decreasing 1 double crochet/ treble crochet in each side = 9 double crochets/ treble crochets (decrease 1 double crochet/ treble crochet by working 2 double crochets or 2 treble crochets together), cut the strand. To keep the belt end in place, work a belt loop as follows: Work 21 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm and Alaska and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch. Then work 3 rounds of double crochets before cutting the strand. Thread the belt through the loop. SCARF: See Pattern no 91-4. |
