I'm sorry if I wasn't clear - I'm knitting the body of the Jumper in size m and have 130 stitches. I have to continue pattern until it measures 46cm but without an increase in stitches. How do I knit the pattern without increasing the number of stitches?
22.04.2025 - 17:34DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Stokes, correct you work the 130 sts with the lace pattern as before but without further increases - work following A.3 making sure pattern is continuing from yoke as before to avoid displacing/breaking lace pattern - until piece measures 46 cm, then you work rib increasing evenly to avoid rib to tight piece together. Happy knitting!

Correction - row 1 of A2 only has 5 stitches
19.04.2025 - 19:45DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ger, row 5 of A.2 for size S-M-L is worked over the 7 stitches in row 4. As you can see in the chart, at the beginning of A.2 in row 1 you have 1 yarn over. So you increase from 5 to 6 stitches. At the beginning of row 3 you have another yarn over, which increases the number of stitches to 7. So row 5 can be worked over 7 stitches. Happy knitting!

How do you knit row 5 of A2 (needs 7 stitches) when doing the body as there are no increases and row 1only has 9 stitches

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 114 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 34) = 3.4. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately approx. every 3rd and 4th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve so that the holes closes. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder back, and work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information until next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 56-56-56-64-64-64 stitches on circular needle size 6 mm with DROPS Snow. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Beginning of round is at right shoulder at the back. Insert 1 marker in the 18th-18th-18th-21st-21st-21st stitch on round (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch and these stitches are called raglan stitches and worked in stocking stitch. Insert 1st marker in first stitch, count 5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker in next stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23-23 stitches (= front piece), insert 3rd marker in next stitch, count 5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker in next stitch, 21-21-21-23-23-23 stitches remain after last marker (= back piece). Switch to circular needle size 8 mm and work first round as follows, begin from right shoulder at the back: Work 1 stitch in stocking stitch (= raglan stitch), work A.1 over 5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches (= sleeve), work 1 stitch in stocking stitch (= raglan stitch), work A.2 over 5-5-5-6-6-6 stitches, work A.3, work A.4 over 8-8-8-9-9-9 stitches (= front piece), work 1 stitch in stocking stitch (= raglan stitch), work A.1 over 5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches (= sleeve), work 1 stitch in stocking stitch (= raglan stitch), work A.2 over 5-5-5-6-6-6 stitches, work A.3, work A.4 over 8-8-8-9-9-9 stitches (= back piece). Increases for raglan are shown in diagrams. Continue pattern like this. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When diagram A.2 to A.4 have been worked 1 time vertically, there is room for 1 more repetition of A.3 between A.2 and A.4. When entire diagram A.1 has been worked vertically, work according to diagram A.2, A.3 and A.4 over A.1 on sleeves (there is now room for one more repetition of A.3 between A.2 and A.4 on front piece/back piece). Continue pattern like this until you have increased 13-15-16-17-18-20 times in total for raglan and there are 160-176-184-200-208-224 stitches on round. Continue pattern and increase for raglan 1 more time the same way but knit the increased stitches on each side of raglan stitches twisted to avoid holes. You have increased 14-16-17-18-19-21 times for raglan and there are 168-184-192-208-216-232 stitches on round. Now increase for raglan only on front piece/back piece 1-1-1-0-1-1 more time, knit the increased stitches twisted. Increase as follows: Work as before and increase after 2nd marker, before 3rd marker, after 4th marker and before 1st marker. You have now increased 15-17-18-18-20-22 times in total on front piece/back piece and 14-16-17-18-19-21 increases on sleeves. There are 172-188-196-208-220-236 stitches on round, and the stitches are distributed like this: 33-37-39-43-45-49 stitches on each sleeve, 51-55-57-59-63-67 stitches on front piece/back piece and 4 raglan stitches. Work pattern as before until piece measures 22-23-25-25-27-29 cm from marker mid front. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke as follows: Knit 1-1-1-2-2-3 (belongs to back piece), slip the next 33-37-39-41-43-45 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 4-4-6-6-8-8 new stitches (= in the side under sleeve), work 53-57-59-63-67-73 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 33-37-39-41-43-45 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 4-4-6-6-8-8 new stitches (= in the side under sleeve), work the last 52-56-58-61-65-70 stitches as before (the rest of back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 114-122-130-138-150-162 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece (= in the middle of the 4-4-6-6-8-8 stitches that were cast on under sleeve). Begin round at the marker and work in the round in pattern as before - make sure that pattern continues correctly over stitches from yoke (work stitches mid under sleeve that do not fit the pattern in stocking stitch). Continue until piece measures 42-44-46-46-48-50 cm from marker mid front – adjust so that at least 2 rounds in stocking stitch have been worked after last lace pattern. Switch to circular needles size 6 mm, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 34-36-38-42-44-48 stitches evenly on 1st round - read INCREASE TIP = 148-158-168-180-194-210 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off all stitches somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jumper measures 46-48-50-51-53-55 cm from marker mid front and approx. 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 33-37-39-41-43-45 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 8 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-6-6-8-8 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 37-41-45-47-51-53 stitches. Work pattern as before - make sure that pattern continues correctly over stitches from yoke (work stitches mid under sleeve that do not fit the pattern in stocking stitch). Continue until sleeve measures 33-33-32-31-30-29 cm from division – adjust so that at least 2 rounds in stocking stitch have been worked after previous lace pattern. Switch to double pointed needles size 6 mm and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 11-11-13-13-15-15 stitches evenly on 1st round - remember INCREASE TIP = 48-52-58-60-66-68 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off all stitches somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 37-37-36-36-35-34 cm from division. |
