Bon tricot!

Are the measurements across the top (shoulder to shoulder) accurate? There is a big difference compared to the bottom measure and I don\'t see where the increases would occur. Also the top measure seems small relative to other sweaters with a similar style. Thank you!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and purl stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and purl stitch in back loop of stitch. STRIPES: Work stripes and stocking stitch from yoke and all the way down in rib on body and sleeves. Work stripes as follows: 1 round in colour light sea green, 3 rounds in colour marzipan. Repeat these 4 rounds. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve so that the holes closes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular needle. Begin by casting on stitches in the back of neck. Then work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. Now put back piece aside and work the beginning of front piece. Front piece is first worked in 2 parts. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from back piece, work and increase towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. Now pick up stitches for sleeves along front pieces. Work yoke back and forth over whole yoke until increases for neck are done. Cast on new stitches for neck on mid front and continue in the round over all stitches. Increase stitches for yoke. Increase first only on sleeves then increase on both sleeves and front / back pieces. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work a neck edge in the round. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 26-28-26-28-30-32 stitches on circular needle size 5.5 mm with colour marzipan in DROPS Melody. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 8-8-9-9-9-9 times in total (= 16-16-18-18-18-18 rows have been worked), after increase there are = 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches on needle. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or an stitch holder. RIGHT SHOULDER: Find right shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, right side of piece = right shoulder. Now pick up stitches along right diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the armhole and pick up stitches in towards the neck as follows: Begin by picking up 1 edge stitch at the edge towards armhole, then pick up 1 stitch in every knitted row inside outermost stitch (= 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches) = 17-17-19-19-19-19 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick up edge. Work stocking stitch back and forth - work first row from wrong side. When piece measures 6-6-7-7-7-7 cm, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 4-4-5-5-5-5 times (= 8-8-10-10-10-10 rows have been worked) = 21-21-24-24-24-24 stitches. Piece now measures approx. 10-10-12-12-12-12 cm from cast-on edge. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work left front piece along the left shoulder as explained below. LEFT SHOULDER: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every knitted row inside outermost stitch (= 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches), finish by picking up 1 edge stitch at the edge towards armhole = 17-17-19-19-19-19 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick up edge. Work in stocking stitch ( work first row as follows from wrong side). When piece measures 6-6-7-7-7-7 cm, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work the rest of row. Then slip front pieces and back piece together while at the same time picking up stitches for sleeves and insert markers on row in transition between body and sleeves as explained below. Work next row as follows from right side: Begin with stitches from left front piece, and knit over the first 19-19-22-22-22-22 stitches, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 1 edge stitch decreased), insert 1st marker on row, pick up 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches along the side on left front piece inside outermost stitch (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker on row, knit the 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches from back piece from right side, insert 3rd marker on row (NOTE! This marker is used to mark the beginning of round – make sure that this marker is different from the others), pick up 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches along the side on right front piece (= sleeve), insert 4th marker on row, knit the first 2 stitches from front piece together (= 1 edge stitch decreased), knit over the remaining 19-19-22-22-22-22 stitches on right front piece = 130-132-144-146-148-150 stitches. Cut the yarn. Now move the beginning of round because the yoke is worked in the round as explained below. YOKE: Begin at the 3rd marker placed in transition between back piece and right sleeve. Now work stocking stitch in the round as follows: Work stitches from right sleeve (= 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches), work the 20-20-23-23-23-23 stitches from front piece, cast on 18-20-16-18-20-22 new stitches for neck on needle, work the 20-20-23-23-23-23 stitches from left front piece (= 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches for front piece), work stitches from left sleeve (= 16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches), then work over stitches from back piece (= 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches) = 148-152-160-164-168-172 stitches on needle. Work in the round in stocking stitch and increase for sleeves as explained below – remember INCREASE TIP-1 - AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 3 cm from the new stitches cast on for neck mid front, then work piece in STRIPES – read explanation above. ROUND 1: Work and increase 1 stitch in each side on each sleeve inside markers (= 4 stitches increased). I.e. Increase at the edge towards the marker in each side on sleeve, increase towards the left at the beginning of sleeve and towards the end of the sleeve - number of stitches increases by 2 stitches on each sleeve while stitches on front piece and back piece is the same. ROUND 2: Knit all stitches. Repeat these 2 rounds 11-11-11-10-9-8 times in total (= 22-22-22-20-18-16 rounds worked) = 192-196-204-204-204-204 stitches – remember stripes. There are 38-38-40-38-36-34 stitches for each sleeve and 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches for front piece/back piece. Then increase for sleeve as before, at the same time increase 1 stitch in each side of front piece/back piece. Work as follows: ROUND 1: Work and increase 2 stitches on each sleeve as before AT THE SAME TIME increase 2 stitches on front piece/back piece inside 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= 8 stitches increased). I.e. increase 1 stitch towards the left after 2 stitches in stocking stitch on front piece/back piece and increase 1 stitch towards the right when 2 stitches remain for front piece/back piece (there are always 2 stitches in stocking stitch between increases on body and sleeves) - number of stitches increases by 2 stitches on each sleeve, front piece and back piece. ROUND 2: Knit all stitches. Repeat these 2 rounds 4-5-5-7-9-11 times in total (= 8-10-10-14-18-22 rounds worked) = 224-236-244-260-276-292 stitches. There are 46-48-50-52-54-56 stitches for each sleeve and 66-70-72-78-84-90 stitches for front piece/back piece. You have increased 15-16-16-17-18-19 times in total on sleeves and 4-5-5-7-9-11 times on front piece/back piece. Sleeve measures approx. 15-16-16-17-18-19 cm measured from where stitches were knitted up along front piece. When the jumper is folded double at the shoulder, piece measures approx. 20-21-22-23-24-25 cm at the edge along the armhole. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves – adjust so that division is on a round that is worked in the colour marzipan. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Slip the first 46-48-50-52-54-56 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-12-14-16-18 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), knit the next 66-70-72-78-84-90 stitches (= front piece), slip the next 46-48-50-52-54-56 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-12-14-16-18 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), knit the last 66-70-72-78-84-90 stitches (= back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately BODY: = 144-156-168-184-200-216 stitches. Work in stocking stitch and stripes in the round – adjust so that stripes continue from yoke over body. Work until piece measures 26-27-28-29-29-30 cm, measured from where new stitches were cast on under sleeve - adjust so that last round is worked in colour marzipan. Switch to circular needles size 4 mm, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) in the colour marzipan while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 18-20-22-24-30-32 stitches evenly on 1st round = 162-176-190-208-230-248 stitches. When rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7 cm cast off. Jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. SLEEVES: Slip 46-48-50-52-54-56 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 5.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-12-14-16-18 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 52-56-62-66-70-74 stitches. Work in stocking stitch and stripes in the round – adjust so that stripes continue from yoke over sleeve. When sleeve measures 3 cm from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 6-4-3-2½-2-2 cm 5-7-9-10-12-13 times in total = 42-42-44-46-46-48 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 33-32-33-32-30-30 cm from division – adjust so that last round in the colour marzipan. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 mm, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) in the colour marzipan while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches evenly on 1st round = 48-48-50-54-54-56 stitches. When rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7 cm cast off. Sleeve measures approx. 54-54-55-55-55-56 cm from shoulder. NECK EDGE: Begin from right side at one shoulder line and pick up approx. 72 to 90 stitches around the neck on circular needle size 4 mm with colour marzipan - number of stitches must be divisible by 2. Work 2 rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Knit 3 rounds (= rolling edge). Cast off by knitting while at the same time making 1 yarn over after every 4th stitch - cast off yarn overs as regular stitches. |
