Thank you for writing back. I'm asking about the second time through A.2. I did not have to add extra chains, and I am missing the same amount if increases. Don't know what I'm missing. Only allowed so many words, so hard to tell you what I mean. Sorry. No idea how you get 198. I'm low.
27.01.2017 - 16:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear Carolyn, you are increasing 4 sts on each of the 5 rows in A.2 + work 2 more chains on row 3, ie inc 2 more sts on row 4, so that you will have 4 times x 4 sts inc (= row 1, 2, 3, 5) + 1 time x 6 sts inc (= row 4) = 4x4 + 6 = 22 sts inc in A.2. Happy crocheting!

Really confused now! Finished second time thru 3rd row (A.2). Did not even have extra chain to put in, so now going to be even more stitches lower than supposed to be. Where do you get 22 increases the second time through? They aren't there. Thanks.
26.01.2017 - 17:34DROPS Design answered:
Dear Carolyn, you are working the first 4 inc in A.2 to get the 156 sts, then work A.2 from row 2. On 3rd row work 1 ch before inc tr-group and before the last inc on row so that the pattern is symmetrical. (I.e. 2 extra tr are inc on next row when 1 tr is worked around these 2 extra ch). So that you will have 4 sts inc in row 1, 4 sts inc in row 2, 4 sts inc in row 3 (+ 2 more chains), 6 sts inc in row 4 and 4 sts inc in row 5. Happy crocheting!

Thank you for your previous help. So why are there 18 increases the first time, and 22 increases the second time through A.2? Unless there is supposed to be a chain between the first and last two triple in the third row (increase)? If it's the exact same, where are the extra increases? Thanks!
26.01.2017 - 16:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Carolyn, you also increased 22 sts the first time, the 156 sts are counted after you have worked row 1 in A2. Happy crocheting!

Carolyn Sullivan wrote:
I don't understand the third row in A2. We are supposed to put two triple crochets to increase at the beginning, then an extra chain right before the two triple crochets at the tip, and then another extra chain at the end before ending with two triple crochets (another increase). If I do this correctly, and count the chains, that gives me 166 stitches. But then, if I follow the pattern, which is four increases in the next two rows, that gives me a final count of 176 stitches, not 174.
25.01.2017 - 22:47DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Sullivan, on row 2 in A2 inc 4 sts, on row 3 in A2 inc 4 sts (+ crochet 1 more ch on 2 places), on row 4 in A2 inc 4 sts + 2 sts (over ch) = 6 sts inc, on row 5 in A2 inc 4 sts = you have inc a total of 18 sts, there were 156 sts + 18 = 174 sts. Happy crocheting!
26.01.2017 - 09:39Faye wrote:
I see. If the last row needs to inc 6 on each side, I think you need to update the pattern, because it says "AT THE SAME TIME on last row inc 8 tr evenly (i.e. 4 tr on each side of tip) = 390 tr on row." so it seems to me that the numbers don't match up. But if the inc is 4, 4, 4, 6, 12 I'll go with that.

Hey, I'm wondering about the last time we crochet A.2. I can't make out how it can go from 364 dc on row 1 to 390 on row 5. Could you tell me how many dc are increased on each of the 5 rows, please? I have counted and calculated myself, but I can't make any sense of it. Thanks in advance for your reply. PS: I really love this design! Can't wait to finish it.
22.01.2017 - 13:01DROPS Design answered:
Dear Faye, you will inc on each side in A.2 as before, ie on row 2: + 2 sts on each side of middle st (4 sts inc in row), on row3: 2 sts (= 4 sts inc on row), on row 4: 3 sts (= 6 sts inc on row), on row 5: 6 sts (= 12 sts inc on row): 13 sts inc on each side of tip = 26 sts inc in total: 364+26=390 sts. Happy crocheting!

Crochet DROPS shawl with tr and lace pattern in ”BabyAlpaca Silk”.
DROPS 165-11 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MEASURING TIP: Always measure from the first ch worked and down along the tip of shawl. CROCHET INFO: Replace first tr at beg of every tr row with 3 ch. Replace first dtr at beg of every dtr row with 4 ch. At beg of every row with triple tr replace first triple tr with 5 ch + 1 ch (to avoid a tight edge) = 6 ch. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1-A.5. INC TR-GROUP: Work 2 tr in first tr, 1 ch (= tip), skip 1 ch, 2 tr in next tr = 2 tr inc in tip. NOTE: On 3rd row in A.2, inc with double tr instead of tr! INCREASE TIP: On every row with tr (and A.2) inc with 2 tr in first and last st on every row and work a inc tr-group in the tip of shawl (= 4 tr inc on row). NOTE: On 3rd row in A.2, inc with double tr instead of tr! ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth. ROW 1 (= from WS): Work according to diagram A.1 as follows: Work 7 ch (= 1 triple tr + 1 ch) - READ CROCHET INFO with BabyAlpaca Silk on hook size 3.5 mm. Work 1 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in first ch on row, work 2 ch, insert a marker (= tip of shawl) - move it upwards until finished measurements, 2 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in first ch on row, 1 ch, 1 triple tr in first ch. ROW 2: Work 8 ch, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr around next ch-space (= tip), 2 ch, 7 dtr around ch-space, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in 6th ch on previous row. ROW 3: Work 8 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in last ch from previous row, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip next ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in the middle dtr from previous row, 4 ch (= tip), (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in same dtr, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in 6th ch from previous row, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in 6th ch on previous row. ROW 4: Work A.Z like this: 8 ch, skip 1 ch-space, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch. Work A.1a as follows: 1 dtr in the middle of the 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch. Work 1 dtr around next ch-space (= tip). Therafter work A.1b as follows: 2 ch, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr in the middle of the next 3 dtr. Work A:X as follows: 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in 6th ch on previous row. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION! ROW 5: Work A.X as follows: 8 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in last ch from previous row, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch. Work A.1b as follows: Skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next dtr, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch. Skip 1 ch-space (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in the middle dtr on shawl, 4 ch (= tip). Work A.1a as follows: (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in same dtr, skip 1 ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next dtr, skip 1 ch-space. Work A.Z as follows: 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in 6th ch on previous row, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in 6th ch. ROWS 6-11: Continue with pattern as explained on 4th and 5th row, AT THE SAME TIME work A.1a and A.1b over the new inc sts in A.x and A.Z. There are now 5 dtr groups vertically along tip of shawl and piece measures approx. 24 cm - READ MEASURING TIP. Now work A.2 as follows: Work 3 ch (= 1 tr), work 1 tr more in last dtr from previous row (= 1 tr inc), continue with 1 tr in every dtr and 1 tr around every ch until the middle ch-space (= tip), then work 1 tr around ch-space, 2 tr in the first of the two middle ch (= 1 tr inc), 1 ch, 2 tr in next ch (= 1 tr inc), 1 tr around same ch-space. Continue with 1 tr in every dtr and 1 tr around every ch and work 2 tr in 6th ch at beg of previous row (= 1 tr inc) = 4 tr inc in total and 156 tr on row (= 78 tr on each side of tip). Then continue from 2nd row in A.2, AT THE SAME TIME continue the same inc - READ INCREASE TIP and work an INC TR-GROUP - see explanation above, beg in tr before ch in the tip of shawl. NOTE: On 3rd work 1 ch before inc tr-group and before the last inc on row so that the pattern is symmetrical. (I.e. 2 extra tr are inc on next row when 1 tr is worked around these 2 extra ch). When entire A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 174 tr on row. Then work 5 rows of A.2 1 more time vertically the same way (= 22 tr inc) = 198 tr. Now continue inc as at beg of shawl as follows - see diagram A.3-A.5: ROW 1: Work 8 ch, * (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next tr, 2 ch, skip 2 tr, 1 tr in each of the next 3 tr, 2 ch, skip 2 tr *, repeat from *-* 11 more times, skip 1 tr, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next tr (= first tr of the 2 middle tr), 4 ch (= tip), (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next tr (= second tr of the middle 2 tr), ** 2 ch, skip 2 tr, 1 tr in each of the next 3 tr, 2 ch, skip 2 tr, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next tr **, repeat from **-** 11 more times, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in last tr on row. ROW 2: Work 8 ch, skip 1 ch-space, * 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr in the middle of the 3 tr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space *, repeat from *-* 11 more times, 7 dtr around next ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr around next ch-space (= tip), 2 ch, 7 dtr around next ch-space, ** 2 ch, 1 dtr in the middle of the next 3 tr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, 7 dtr around next ch-space **, repeat from **-** 11 more times, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in 6th ch on previous row. ROW 3: Work 8 ch, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in last ch from previous row, * 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next dtr, skip 1 ch-space *, repeat from *-* 11 more times, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next dtr, 4 ch (= tip), (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in same dtr, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch, ** skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in next dtr, skip 1 ch-space, 2 ch, 1 dtr in each of the middle 3 dtr, 2 ch **, repeat from **-** 11 more times, skip 1 ch-space, (1 dtr, 4 ch, 1 dtr) in 6th ch on previous row, 2 ch, 1 triple tr in same ch. Now work A.2 as follows: Work 3 ch (= 1 tr), work 1 tr more in last dtr on previous row (= 1 tr inc), continue with 1 tr in every dtr and 1 tr around every ch until the middle ch-space on shawl (= tip), then work 1 tr around ch-space, 2 tr in the first of the two middle ch (= 1 tr inc), 1 ch, 2 tr in next ch (= 1 tr inc), 1 tr around same ch-space. Continue with 1 tr in every dtr and 1 tr around every ch and work 2 tr in 6th ch at beg of previous row (= 1 tr inc) 364 tr on row (= 182 tr on each side of tip). Then continue from 2nd row in A.2, AT THE SAME TIME continue the same inc and work an INC TR-GROUP - see explanation above, beg in tr before ch in the tip of shawl. NOTE: On 3rd row work 1 ch before inc tr-group and before the last inc on row to make it symmetrical. I.e. inc 2 tr on next row when working 1 tr around these 2 ch, AT THE SAME TIME on last row inc 8 tr evenly (i.e. 4 tr on each side of tip) = 390 tr on row. Now continue from arrow in diagram A.3, A.4 and A.5 the same way as before but now work A.3 24 times in total before A.4 (= inc in tip), and A.5 24 times in width after A.4. When A.3-A.5 has been worked vertically, continue pattern and inc as shown on 2nd-5th row in diagram until piece measures 75 cm in total along tip - adjust to finish on a row which is like 4th row in diagram. Fasten off. |
