I have looked at your help section, but am not sure how I decrease the 3 stitches at the beginning of the row on the shawl as there seems to be lots of different ways. Thanks.
03.01.2022 - 15:04DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Woodward, cast off 3 stitches at the beginning of every row on each side - cast off the stitches as if to knit as shown in this video, and cast off the stitches as if to purl as shown in this video. Happy knitting!

In the shawl pattern section, it states to bo 3 sts at the beginning of each row 30 times and then states it will leave you with 3 sts, if you start with 183 sts, as the pattern states, 3 x 30 = 90sts, 90sts from 183 leaves alot more than 3 sts on the needle-is this a misprint, should it read to bo off 3 sts each row until 3 sts left on the needle?
26.02.2017 - 19:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Ogilvie, you have to cast off 3 sts at the beg of every row, ie both from RS and from WS: 90 x 3 sts x 2 sides = 180 sts will be cast off in total, 90 on each side. Happy knitting!

HAT: Crochet tip: Finish each round with 1 sl st in first st on round. Replace first dc on round with 1 ch and first tr on round with 3 ch. To avoid too many thread ends, work ends into piece. Decreasing tip: Dec 1 dc as follows: Work 1 dc, but wait with the pull-through, (= 2 sts on hook), work the next dc and now pull thread through all 3 sts on hook. Dec 1 tr as follows: Work 1 tr, but wait with the last pull-through, (= 2 sts on hook), work the next tr and in the last pull-through pull thread through all 3 sts on hook. Diamond: Work 3 ch with colour-1 (see below) and form a ring with 1 sl st. Round 1 (colour-1): 6 dc in ring. See Crochet tip! Round 2 (colour-1): 2 dc in each dc = 12 dc. Round 3 (colour-2): 2 tr in each dc = 24 tr. Round 4 (colour-3): * 2 dc in first tr, 1 dc in each of the next 2 tr *, repeat from *-* = 32 dc. Round 5 (colour-4): 1 dc in each of the first 4 dc, * 1 dc + 2 ch + 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 7 dc *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times, 1 dc + 2 ch + 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of the last 3 dc. Round 6 (colour-5): 1 dc in each of the first 3 dc, * 1 htr in next dc, 1 tr in next dc, 1 tr + 1 dtr + 1 tr in ch-loop (= corner), 1 tr in next dc, 1 htr in next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times, 1 htr in next dc, 1 tr in next dc, 1 tr + 1 dtr + 1 tr in ch-loop, 1 tr in next dc, 1 htr in next dc, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc, 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round. Diamond D: Colour-1 = lime, Colour-2 = pink, Colour-3 = blue/violet, Colour-4 = tan, Colour-5 = dark pink mix. Hat: Crochet 1 diamond in each colour combination. Sew diamonds tog, edge to edge to form a circle. Now crochet 52 dc with tan round bottom edge of diamonds. Work 1 round with 1 dc in each dc and cut the thread. Top: Crochet 52 dc with tan round top of hat. Crochet 1 round of dc, at the same time dec 4 dc evenly = 48 dc – see Decreasing tip! Change to purple, work 1 round of dc, at the same time dec every 6 dc = 40 dc. Change to dark pink mix, work 1 round of dc, at the same time dec every 5 dc = 32 dc. Change to pink, work 1 round of dc, at the same time dec every 4 dc = 24 dc. Change to blue/violet, work 1 round of dc, at the same time dec every 3 dc = 16 dc. Change to khaki, work 1 round of tr, at the same time work all tr tog 2 by 2. Cut the thread, wind it round the top of hat and fasten. SHAWL: New ball of yarn: Always start a new ball at the beg of row to avoid thread ends in the middle of shawl. Moss st: Row 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*. Row 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat row 2. Shawl: Worked back and forth on circular needle from top down. Cast on 183 sts on circular needle size 9 mm with Snow and work moss st – see above. See New ball of yarn! Remember the knitting tension! At the same time cast off 3 sts at the beg of every row a total of 30 times = 3 sts left on needle. Cast off. |
