------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- ELEVATION: So the jumper is slightly higher at the back of the neck when working the yoke, you can work an elevation. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Start from the right side and knit until there are 12-12-12-13-13-14-14 stitches left before the marker mid-front, turn – read KNITTING TIP-1, purl until there are 12-12-12-13-13-14-14 stitches left before the marker mid-front on the other side. * Turn and knit until there are 12-13-13-14-15-16-17 stitches left before the previous turn, turn and purl until there are 12-13-13-14-15-16-17 stitches left before the previous turn on the other side*, work from *-* 2 more times. Turn and knit to the beginning of the round on the right back shoulder. Continue the yoke in the round as described in the text. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension becoming tight when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if this is necessary. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.2). INCREASE TIP: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 104 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 18) = 5.8. In this example, increase by working as follows in approx. every 6th stitch. This symmetrical method of increasing gives 1 new stitch. Follow points 1 - 4: 1. Keep the working strand behind the piece. Slip the first stitch on the left needle purl-wise onto the right needle. 2. Take the left needle behind the slipped stitch and between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on the right needle. 3. Make 1 yarn over around the right needle and pull it through the stitch (1 new stitch on the right needle). 4. Slip the front stitch-loop off the left needle, then knit through the front of the other stitch-loop. 1 increased stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder, increasing for a round yoke. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 104-106-110-114-118-124-130 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Light Beige DROPS Merino Extra Fine or colour Light Oak DROPS Karisma. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round and 1 marker after the first 35-36-37-38-39-42-43 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is measured from the marker mid-front. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 18-22-24-26-28-34-36 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 122-128-134-140-146-158-166 stitches (the marker mid-front sits now after the first 41-43-45-47-49-53-55 stitches). You can now work an ELEVATION at the back of the neck – read explanation above. When the elevation is finished, continue with the yoke. If you do not want an elevation, go straight to the next paragraph. Work stocking stitch in the round until the yoke measures 2½-2½-2½-3-3-4-4 cm from the marker mid-front. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. On the next round increase 32-36-38-40-42-46-46 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 154-164-172-180-188-204-212 stitches. When the yoke measures 5-5-5-6-6-7-7 cm from the marker, increase 34-36-40-40-44-44-44 stitches evenly spaced = 188-200-212-220-232-248-256 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm from the marker. Now work PATTERN as follows – read explanation above, and read KNITTING TIP-2: Work A.1 47-50-53-55-58-62-64 times on the round. Continue the pattern, increasing as shown in the diagram; in addition increase as follows on each round marked with an arrow in diagram A.1 – remember INCREASE TIP: Arrow-1: Increase 29-31-33-39-41-39-45 stitches evenly spaced = 217-231-245-259-273-287-301 stitches. Now A.1 is worked 31-33-35-37-39-41-43 times on the round. Continue increasing as shown in the diagram. After the last increase (before arrow-2), there are 279-297-315-333-351-369-387 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 21-31-29-27-37-43-33 stitches evenly spaced = 300-328-344-360-388-412-420 stitches. Now work A.2 in the round, increasing on the round marked with an arrow: Arrow-3: Increase 20-24-24-24-28-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 320-352-368-384-416-440-448 stitches. Continue, repeating A.2 in height, without further increases. When the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-25-26-28 cm from the marker mid-front, divide for the body and sleeves. A.2 is continued on both the body and sleeves; make sure the increases in A.2 are finished before dividing. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Place the first 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 96-108-112-116-128-140-144 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 96-108-112-116-128-140-144 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. Cut the yarn. BODY: = 208-232-248-264-288-320-336 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 cast-on stitches under 1 sleeve. Start the round at the marker and continue the pattern from the yoke (A.2) in the round. Work until the piece measures approx. 39-41-43-44-46-46-48 cm from the marker mid-front – finishing after round 3, 13 or 23 in A.2. Continue with stocking stitch and colour Light Beige/Light Oak. Work until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-52-53-55 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 40-48-48-52-56-66-66 stitches evenly on the first round = 248-280-296-316-344-386-402 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder/thread on circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 72-76-84-92-96-100-104 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-14-16-20-24 new stitches under the sleeve. The round begins at the marker-thread. Continue pattern A.2 from the yoke in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times every 2nd round, then 2 stitches 0-0-4-6-7-7-9 times every 2 cm = 68-72-72-76-76-80-80 stitches. Continue the pattern until the sleeve measures approx. 36-36-34-33-32-32-30 cm from the division, finishing after round 3, 13 or 23 in A.2. Continue stocking stitch with colour Light Beige/Light Oak until the sleeve measures 42-42-40-40-38-39-37 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1). When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 46-46-44-44-43-44-42 cm from the division. |
