------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (sides of body): All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), 1 yarn over (= 2 increased stitches). On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (sides of body): All decreases are worked from the right side! Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 5 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 6 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 6 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 decreased stitches). Repeat by the second marker-thread. 2 EDGE STITCHES: BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way both from the right side and from the wrong side. BUTTONHOLES (top down): Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). Work from the right side when there are 4 stitches left on the row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. On the next row (wrong side), purl the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked 1 cm after the V-neck is finished. The other 4 buttonholes are then worked with approx. 5-5-5½-5½-6-6 cm between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth, top down in stocking stitch with 2 edge stitches in I-cord on each side. Start by casting on stitches for the shoulder strap on the right front piece, working downwards and increasing for the armhole and V-neck. When the increases are finished, the piece is laid to one side whilst working 3 more sections; left front piece and right and left back pieces. All the sections are joined and the body is finished back and forth. The straps are sewn together mid-shoulder. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 7-7-9-9-11-11 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Cotton Light. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 2 EDGE STITCHES on each side – read description above. Work until the strap measures 5-5-6-6-6-6 cm, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Continue with stocking stitch and the edge stitches but now increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over inside the 2 edge stitches on each side, which are purled twisted on the next row to avoid holes. Continue working and increase like this every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 5-5-6-7-7-8 times = 17-17-21-23-25-27 stitches. Continue working but now increase at the beginning of every 4th row (armhole) and at the end of every 2nd row (mid-front). All increases are worked from the right side. Increase like this 8 times mid-front (= 4 times for the armhole) = 29-29-33-35-37-39 stitches. Continue working but now increase on both sides, every 2nd row 5-6-6-7-8-9 times. A total of 18-19-20-22-23-25 increases mid-front and 14-15-16-18-19-21 increases for the armhole = 39-41-45-49-53-57 stitches. The piece measures approx. 18-19-20-22-22-24 cm from the top of the strap. Finish after a row from the right side (without increase). Cut the strand. Work 1 more piece in the same way = left back piece. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 7-7-9-9-11-11 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Cotton Light. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 2 edge stitches on each side. Continue working but now increase at the end of every 4th row (armhole) and at the beginning of every 2nd row (mid-front). All increases are worked from the right side. Increase like this 8 times mid-front (= 4 times for the armhole) = 29-29-33-35-37-39 stitches. Continue working but now increase both sides every 2nd row 5-6-6-7-8-9 times. Work 1 more piece in the same way = right back piece. BODY: The sections are now joined, working from the wrong side as follows: Work the 39-41-45-49-53-57 stitches on the right front piece, cast on 14-16-16-18-22-26 stitches (under the armhole), work the 39-41-45-49-53-57 stitches on the right back piece, work the 39-41-45-49-53-57 stitches on the left back piece, cast on 14-16-16-18-22-26 stitches (under the armhole), work the 39-41-45-49-53-57 stitches on the left front piece = 184-196-212-232-256-280 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 14-16-16-18-22-26 cast-on stitches under each armhole and allow the threads to follow your work onwards; they are used when decreasing and increasing each side. Work the next row as follows from the right side: 2 edge stitches as before, increase 1 stitch, knit 35-37-41-45-49-53, work GARTER STITCH across the next 18-20-20-22-26-30 stitches – read description above, knit 35-37-41-45-49-53, place the next 2 stitches on the cable needle held in front of the piece, knit 2 (= first 2 stitches on next section), knit 2 stitches from the cable needle, knit 35-37-41-45-49-53, work garter stitch across the next 18-20-20-22-26-30 stitches, knit 35-37-41-45-49-53, increase 1 stitch and 2 edge stitches as before. Continue with stocking stitch, 2 edge stitches on each side mid-front and garter stitch across the 18-20-20-22-26-30 stitches under each armhole and until you have worked 2 ridges in height (see GARTER STITCH). Continue the increases mid-front until you have increased 3 times after the join = 190-202-218-238-262-286 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 2 edge stitches on each side – remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right front piece – read description above. When the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm from the join, decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Repeat these decreases when the piece measures 13-13-14-14-15-15 cm from the join = 182-194-210-230-254-278 stitches. When the piece measures 19-19-20-21-22-22 cm from the join, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 stitches increased) = 186-198-214-234-258-282 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 24-25-26-25-27-27 cm from the join, with the last row from the wrong side. On the next row (right side) work rib, increasing 17-19-19-21-23-27 stitches evenly on this row as follows = 203-217-233-255-281-309 stitches: Change to circular needle size 3 mm, work 2 edge stitches as before, work rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 3 stitches left, knit 1 and 2 edge stitches. When the rib measures 2-2-2-3-3-3 cm, cast off. The piece measures approx. 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew the straps together on each shoulder. Sew the buttons onto the left front piece. |
