I don’t understand how to increase in English rib. It says work 3 sts in the knitted stitch, do these 3 stitches include the the 4 outer garter stitches? Or do I start counting 3 sts after completing the 4 outer garter sts?
08.04.2024 - 19:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Juliet, the edge stitches you always knit with garter stitch. As for "3 sts in the knitted stitch," it means, that wherever you need to increase (in the English rib) you should knit 3 stitches into one stitch that is knitted (as opposed to purled). I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Hi thank you for your answer. Do you have a video how to do diagonal shoulder and neck for this pattern please? Thank you for your help

Dear Adrianna, slip the stitches as for short rows; in this other video, we also show for another pattern how to work a diagonal shoulder - both videos might help you. Happy knitting!

Hi, I’m trying to do diagonal shoulders and neck but I can’t finish in 73sts(I’m doing size S) 26sts on 1 site, 17 neck, 26 on 2 site = 69 where are those 4 stitches that we finished armholes? Please help as I’m confused 😬
06.11.2023 - 21:33DROPS Design answered:
Hi Adriana, The last 4 stitches are cast off on each side of the neck (after casting off the 17 middle stitches), all of which happens while you are still placing stitches on threads for the diagonal shoulders. Hope this helps and happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. ENGLISH-RIB STITCHES: When counting stitches, the yarn overs are not included. ENGLISH RIB (back and forth): ROW 1 (right side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together, 1 stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 stitch in garter stitch. Repeat rows 1 and 2 onwards. INCREASE TIP (armholes): All increases are worked from the right side! INCREASE 2 ENGLISH RIB STITCHES INSIDE 4 GARTER STITCHES ON EACH SIDE: Work 3 stitches in the knitted stitch (knit the yarn over and stitch together, but do not slip from the needle, make 1 yarn over and knit the stitch and yarn over together 1 more time, now slip them from the needle) = 3 stitches. On the next row work the stitches as follows: Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise. Subsequently work the new stitches into the English rib. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The back and front pieces are worked separately, back and forth with circular needle and bottom up. The piece is sewn together and the neck worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: Cast on 105-111-120-132-144-156 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Alaska. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work as follows from the right side: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 3 cm. Now work as follows from the wrong side: 1 garter stitch, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 2 together *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 garter stitch = 71-75-81-89-97-105 stitches – read ENGLISH-RIB STITCHES. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work ENGLISH RIB – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! ARMHOLES: When the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34-35 cm, work 2 ridges (see GARTER STITCH) over the outermost 7-7-7-9-9-11 stitches on each side (yarn overs worked together with their respective stitches and the other stitches continued in English rib). Now cast off 3-3-3-5-5-7 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 65-69-75-79-87-91 stitches. Continue the English rib with the 4 outermost stitches on each side in garter stitch. When you have worked 20-20-20-16-16-16 rows, after casting off for the armholes (10-10-10-8-8-8 visible knitted stitches in height) and the next row is from the right side, increase 2 stitches on each side – read INCREASE TIP. Repeat this increase every 20th-20th-20th-16th-16th-16th row a total of 2-2-2-3-3-3 times on each side = 73-77-83-91-99-103 stitches. OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTION: Now stitches are placed on a thread for diagonal shoulders at the same time as stitches are cast off for the neck. Read both DIAGONAL SHOULDERS and NECK before continuing! DIAGONAL SHOULDERS: When the piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm, place stitches on threads for the diagonal shoulders at the beginning of each row on each side as follows: Place 1 stitch on the thread 13 times on each side, then the last 13-15-17-21-23-25 stitches on the thread (26-28-30-34-36-38 stitches on each shoulder). NECK: AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 53-55-57-59-61-63 cm, cast off the middle 17-17-19-19-23-23 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately (continue the diagonal shoulders). Work as before and cast off 2 stitches on the next row from the neck. When all the stitches are either cast off or on threads the piece measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the top of the shoulder. Place the shoulder stitches on circular needle size 5 mm and cast off (yarn overs cast off as normal stitches to avoid the cast-off edge being tight). Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work in the same way as the back piece until the front measures 48-50-51-53-54-56 cm. Place the middle 9-9-11-11-15-15 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue the pattern, place stitches on threads for the diagonal shoulder in the same way as on the back piece and cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times. When all the stitches are either cast off or on threads, the piece measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the top of the shoulder. Place the shoulder stitches on circular needle size 5 mm and cast off in the same way as on the back piece. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the cast-off edge. Sew the side seams in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat – leave a split of 6 cm at the bottom. DOUBLE NECK: Start by one shoulder seam and knit up from the right side 84-84-90-90-106-106 stitches around the neck (including the stitches from the thread on mid front) on short circular needle size 3.5 mm. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Work then rib (knit 1, purl 1) in the round for 12-12-12-14-14-14 cm. – adjust so that the rib matches the English rib stitches mid-front. Cast off a little loosely. Fold the neck double to the inside and fasten down with a couple of stitches by each shoulder. |
