------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. STRIPES: 4 cm with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight lilac/green 8 cm with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight olive/rust/plum 12 cm with 1 strand Alpaca +1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight lilac/green 4 cm with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight olive/rust/plum 8 cm with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight lilac/green 12 cm with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk + 1 strand Delight olive/rust/plum Repeat the stripes to finished length. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch by knitting 2 stitches together, inside the 1 edge stitch on each side. KNITTING TIP: Due to the garter stitch the sleeves will be longer when worn, so the measurement is shorter than usual, but will stretch. If the sleeves are too long when worn, they can be unravelled to the desired length. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections and sewn together to finish. The sleeves are knitted up around the armholes and worked back and forth, top down. The jumper is worked in stripes with 3 strands. BACK PIECE: Cast on 48-52-56-64-68-76 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and 1 strand Alpaca, 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand Delight lilac/green. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work as follows from the right side: * Knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from *-*. Work STRIPES – see description above and continue the rib until the piece measures 6 cm, change to circular needle size 9 mm. Work GARTER STITCH over all stitches – see description above. When the piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, cast off 1 stitch on each side for the armholes = 46-50-54-62-66-74 stitches. When the piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm cast off the middle 16-16-18-18-20-20 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 14-16-17-21-22-26 stitches. Continue with garter stitch until the piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm (= 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm from where the stitch was cast off for the armhole), cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 48-52-56-64-68-74 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and 1 strand Alpaca, 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand Delight lilac/green. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work as follows from the right side: * Knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from *-*. Work stripes as on the back piece and continue the rib until the piece measures 6 cm, then change to circular needle size 9 mm. Work garter stitch over all stitches. When the piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, cast off 1 stitch on each side for the armholes = 46-50-54-62-66-74 stitches. When the piece measures 54-56-58-58-60-62 cm, place the middle 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches on 1 thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off stitches on each row from the neck as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 14-16-17-21-22-26 stitches on the shoulder. Continue with garter stitch until the piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm (= 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm from where the stitch was cast off for the armhole), cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVE: The sleeves are worked back and forth, top down – work in stripes like front and back piece. Pick up 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches around the armhole in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch, using circular needle size 9 mm and 1 strand Alpaca, 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand Delight lilac/green (= 3 strands); i.e. start just after the cast-off stitch on the front piece and pick up 19-20-21-22-23-24 stitches as far as the shoulder seam, pick up 19-20-21-22-23-24 stitches from the shoulder seam and down to the cast-off stitch on the back piece. Work garter stitch back and forth and stripes as before. When the piece measures 3 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side – read DECREASE TIP! Decrease like this every 6-5-5-3½-3½-3 cm a total of 7-8-8-9-9-10 times = 24-24-26-26-28-28 stitches. Continue with garter stitch until the sleeve measures 42-41-40-37-36-33 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 8 mm and increase 4-4-6-6-4-4 stitches evenly spaced = 28-28-32-32-32-32 stitches. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 4 cm. Cast off when the sleeve measures 46-45-44-41-40-37 cm, make sure the cast-off edge is not tight – use a larger size needle to cast off if necessary – read KNITTING TIP. Work the other sleeve in the same way. DOUBLE NECK: Start from the right side with 1 strand Alpaca, 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand Delight olive/rust/plum and short circular needle size 8 mm. Knit up 52-60 stitches (including the stitches on the thread and the number of stitches divisible by 4). Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) in the round for 9 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. ASSEMBLY: Sew the sleeve seams in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important this seam is elastic. |
