* A.1 over 6 stitches, A.2 over 2 stitches * after 8 repeats, the ending stich is "make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl" and for the next round the starting stich is "make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl" and same with end of second round "purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch" and starting next round with "knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch" , this is creating an overlap, please me know how this is handled?

Dear Sri, yes correct, this will happen at the transition of the rounds, but it should work nicely - see this video where we show how to knit English rib in the round (without the increases in A.2). Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.2). INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 74 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 10) = 7.4. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 7th and 8th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker sits in the middle of these stitches), 1 yarn over. Increase like this at all 4 markers (= 8 stitches increased). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid back. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. NECK: Cast on 74-78-82-86-90-96 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and Big Merino. Knit 1 round, then work rib (= knit 1, purl 1) for 6 cm. Knit 1 round where you increase 10-18-26-10-18-24 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-1 = 84-96-108-96-108-120 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm. Insert a marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back); the yoke is measured from this marker! YOKE: Work 2 rounds of stocking stitch. On the next round work as follows: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 2 together *, work from *-* to end of round = 56-64-72-64-72-80 stitches. Then work * A.1 over 6 stitches, A.2 over 2 stitches *, work from *-* a total of 7-8-9-8-9-10 times. When A.1 has been worked 1 time in height, repeat the last 2 rounds. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.2 has been worked in height there are 112-128-144-160-180-200 stitches. The piece measures approx. 7-7-7-9-9-9 cm from the marker on the neck. If the piece is shorter than this, continue repeating the last 2 rounds in the diagrams to correct length. Work 2 rounds of stocking stitch; on the first round knit together the stitches and their respective yarn overs. The next round is worked as follows: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. Then work pattern as follows: * A.1 over the first 2 stitches, A.2 over the next 2 stitches, A.1 over the next 12-12-12-16-16-16 stitches *, work from *-* (= 7-8-9-8-9-10 times). Continue in the round like this. When A.1 has been worked 1 time in height, repeat the last 2 rounds. When A.2 has been completed in height there are 168-192-216-256-288-320 stitches on the needle. The piece measures approx. 14-14-14-18-18-18 cm. If the piece is shorter than this, continue repeating the last 2 rounds in the diagrams to correct length. Continue with stocking stitch; on the first round knit together the stitches and their respective yarn overs. On the next round increase 18-18-18-14-14-14 stitches evenly spaced = 186-210-234-270-302-334 stitches. Now insert 4 markers on the next round as follows: Work 28-31-35-40-46-52 stitches in stocking stitch, insert 1 marker, work 36-42-46-54-58-62 stitches in stocking stitch, insert 1 marker, work 57-63-71-81-94-106 stitches in stocking stitch, insert 1 marker, work 36-42-46-54-58-62 stitches in stocking stitch, insert 1 marker and finish with 29-32-36-41-46-52 stitches in stocking stitch. On the next round increase 1 stitch on each side of all the markers – read INCREASE TIP-2! Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 5-4-3-3-2-2 times = 226-242-258-294-318-350 stitches. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 20-21-22-24-26-26 cm from the marker on the neck. On the next round divide the yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 33-35-38-43-48-54 stitches in stocking stitch (= half back piece), place the next 46-50-52-60-62-66 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8 new stitches on the needle (= in side under sleeve), work 67-71-77-87-98-110 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece), place the next 46-50-52-60-62-66 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8 new stitches on the needle (= in side under sleeve) and work 34-36-39-44-48-54 stitches in stocking stitch (= half back piece). BODY: = 150-158-170-190-210-234 stitches. Continue in the round with stocking stitch until the piece measures 25-26-27-27-27-29 cm from the division. On the next round increase 26 stitches evenly spaced = 176-184-196-216-236-260 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and work rib (= purl 1, knit 1) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP! The jumper measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVE: Place the 46-50-52-60-62-66 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 5.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 54-58-60-68-70-74 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 8 stitches under the sleeve. Work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3 cm from the division, decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3-3-3-2-2-1½ cm a total of 9-10-10-13-13-15 times = 36-38-40-42-44-44 stitches. When the sleeve measures 38-37-37-35-33-34 cm, increase 6 stitches evenly spaced = 42-44-46-48-50-50 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm and work rib (= knit 1. purl 1) for 6 cm. The sleeve measures approx. 44-43-43-41-39-40 cm from the division. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - remember CASTING-OFF TIP. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck to the inside of the piece and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
