Bon tricot!

PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Diagram A.2 is sewn with grafting stitches to finish; the diagram shows the pattern seen from the opposite direction to the knitting direction. Diagram A.3 shows which stitches the tail is sewn over. DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 56 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g. 8) = 7. In this example, knit every 6th and 7th stitch together. KNITTING TIP (for heel): To strengthen the heel, the heel and heel decreases can be worked with 2 strands as follows: Use the strand from both inside and outside of ball and knit 1 stitch alternately with first the one then the other strand. In this way you get a slightly thicker heel without using a double strand. HEEL DECREASE: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-7-8-8 stitches left, slip the next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-7-8-8 stitches left, slip the next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-7-7 stitches left, slip the next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-7-7 stitches left, slip the next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 less stitch before slipping the next stitch, until there are 12-12-14-14 stitches left on the needle. DECREASE TIP-2: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, marker, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- SOCK: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Cast on 56-56-56-64 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and lemon. Work A.1 (= 7-7-7-8 repeats of 8 stitches). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.1 has been completed, knit 1 round with lemon where you decrease 8-4-2-8 stitches evenly on round – read DECREASE TIP-1 = 48-52-54-56 stitches. The piece measures approx. 12 cm. The sock is continued in stocking stitch and lemon. When the piece measures 13 cm keep the first 12-13-14-14 stitches on the needle for heel, place the next 24-26-26-28 stitches on 1 thread (= mid top of foot) and keep the last 12-13-14-14 stitches on the needle for heel. Read KNITTING TIP and work stocking stitch back and forth over the 24-26-28-28 heel stitches for 5-5½-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row - THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Now work HEEL DECREASE – see description above. When the heel decrease is finished, knit up 11-12-13-14 stitches on each side of the heel and the 24-26-26-28 stitches from the thread are placed back on the needle = 58-62-66-70 stitches. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 24-26-26-28 stitches on top of foot. Work stocking stitch in the round with lemon and decrease on each side of the 24-26-26-28 stitches on top of foot as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches BEFORE the first marker on top of foot and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches AFTER the last marker on top of foot. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 7-7-7-7 times = 44-48-52-56 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 18-20-22-25 cm from the marker on the heel (there is now approx. 4-4-5-5 cm left to finished length; you can try the sock on and work to desired length if necessary). Insert 1 marker in each side of the sock so that there are 22-24-26-28 stitches both on top and underneath the foot – and insert a marker mid top of foot (i.e. 11-12-13-14 stitches on each side mid top of foot; this marker shows where to position A.2). Continue with stocking stitch and decrease to toe on each side of the side markers - read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-4-5-5 times and then every round a total of 5-6-6-7 times = 8 stitches left on needle in all sizes. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Work one more sock in the same way. EASTER BUNNY ON TOE: Embroider a bunny using duplicate stitches and light grey according to diagram A.2, in the opposite direction to the knitting direction as follows: The middle marker on the toe sits between 2 stitches; sew in the one stitch-loop on each side of the marker, the first stitch starts 12 rows from the end of the toe. Sew the whole of A.2 onto both socks in the same way – make sure the stitches are not tight. TAIL: Sew a tail using off white as shown in diagram A.3. Sew 6 long stitches in the middle and 2 slightly shorter stitches on each side so that the tail is bushy. Sew a tail onto both socks. |
