I would like to know what other yarns can you use? I tried the conversion but it couldn’t give me a substitution. Also, the diagram A.1 it’s not registering what I need to do at this point. Can you make it simple enough to understand? Would love to make as a Christmas gift.

Dear Stephanie, you can use any other yarn group A and work with 2 yarns group A or work with only 1 yarn group C - read more about alternatives here. This video shows how to work A.1 on another pattern, this means work here 2 or 3 chains as shown in diagram between each square and not 4/2 as in the video. Happy crocheting!

Bon crochet!

Hi Shelia, We are unfortunately not able to adjust our patterns to every individual request. check the measurements in the chart fort the larger size and try to adjust with the tension and desired measurements. You are welcome to contact your DROPS store or a knitting forum for any further individual assistance. Happy knitting!

Bon crochet!

Are the yarn amounts correct? I am in the process of crocheting the bolero & have run out of alpaca mix. (I still have plenty of kid-silk left). I haven't completed joining the squares together as per the diagram yet & still have the edging to do. (My tension is correct & the squares measure 23cmx23cm) I would be grateful for your comments.
26.12.2014 - 18:57DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Vaughan, you need 200 g Alpaca (= 4 x 167 m = 668 m) and 100 g Kid-Silk (668 m / 200 m a ball Kid-Silk = 3.34 ie 4 balls Kid-Silk since 3 balls wouldn't be enough). Happy crocheting!

Why not one yarn -- why two? I don't understand. Would you rate this as intermediate or advanced.
14.07.2014 - 22:17DROPS Design answered:
Dear Kathy, this pattern is worked with 1 strand each quality hold together as 1 to get the requested effect - check that your tension is correct, 1 square = 23 x 23 cm. Happy crocheting!

CROCHET TIP: Replace first tr on every round/row with 3 ch. ---------------------------------------------------------- The bolero consists of 12 squares worked tog into a rectangle. SQUARE: Crochet 4 ch on hook size 5 mm with one thread of each yarn (= 2 threads) and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 1: 1 ch, 8 dc in ch-ring, finish with 1 sl st in first dc. ROUND 2: Work 6 ch (= 1 tr + 3 ch), * 1 tr in next dc, 3 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times and finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round = 8 tr with 3 ch between each. ROUND 3: 1 ch, then work as follows in every ch-loop: 1 dc, 1 htr, 3 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc, finish round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round = 8 leaves. ROUND 4: Work 7 ch, * 1 dc between the next 2 leaves, 6 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times, finish round with 1 sl st in 1st ch from beg of round = 8 ch-loops. ROUND 5: 1 ch, then work as follows in every ch-loop: 1 dc, 1 htr, 5 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc, finish round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round = 8 leaves. ROUND 6: Work 10 ch, * 1 dc between the next 2 leaves, 9 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times, finish round with 1 sl st in 1st ch from beg of round = 8 ch-loops. ROUND 7: 1 ch, then work as follows in every ch-loop: 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 tr, 5 dtr, 1 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc, finish round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round = 8 leaves. Cut the thread and pull it through st on hook. ROUND 8: Start with 1 dc in first dtr on first leaf, 3 ch (= 1 tr), * 8 ch (= corner), skip 3 dtr, 1 tr in last dtr on same leaf, 5 ch, 1 dc in first dtr on next leaf, 5 ch, skip 3 dtr, 1 dc in last dtr on same leaf, 5 ch, 1 tr in first dtr on next leaf *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times but finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round (instead of 1 tr in 1st dtr on next leaf). ROUND 9: 1 sl st in 8-ch-loop, * 4 tr + 4 ch + 4 tr in ch-loop in the corner, (4 ch, 1 tr in next ch-loop), repeat from (-) a total of 3 times, 4 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times, finish with 1 sl st in first tr from beg of round. ROUND 10: 1 tr in each of the first 4 tr, * in ch-loop in the corner work 3 tr + 2 ch + 3 tr, 1 tr in each of the next 4 tr, 4 tr in each of the next 4 ch-loops, 1 tr in each of the next 4 tr *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times, finish round with 1 sl st in first tr from beg of round. There are now 30 tr along each side and 2 ch in every corner. Cut the thread. Square measures approx. 23 x 23 cm. Work a total of 12 squares. ASSEMBLY: First work the squares tog across and then along the sides with 4 squares in width and 3 rows vertically. Work squares tog as shown in A.1 CROCHET EDGE: Work a finishing edge around the entire rectangle on hook size 5 mm with 1 thread of each yarn: 1 dc in first st, * 3 ch, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 3 ch and 1 sl st in dc from beg of round. Fold the rectangle double across and fasten it with a few sts in each corner (through both layers). |
