Just wondering, why on the back do you decrease the sides at 20 and 44 cm’s, but on the fronts you do the dec’s at 32 & 56 cm’s
01.01.2018 - 21:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Marcynuk, the decreases are made on different height on back and on the front pieces to avoid them to mark the sides, they will therefore look smoother. Happy knitting!

CARDIGAN: Gauge: 6 sts x 9 rows with 1 strand of each yarn in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Increasing tips: inc 1 st by pulling up a st from the previous row and knitting it. Back: Cast on 33-35-38-41-44 sts with 2 strands Vienna + 1 strand Ull-Flamé. Take away 1 strand Vienna and knit 2 rows garter st, then knit stockinette st, keeping 3 sts at each side in garter st for edge of the side split. When the piece measures 15 cm end split and put a marker at each side, then continue with stockinette st over all sts. When the piece measures 20 and 44 cm dec 1 st at each side = 29-31-34-37-40 sts. When the piece measures 59-61-63-65-67 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time and 1 st 0-1-2-3-4 times = 23-23-24-25-26 sts. When the piece measures 78-81-84-87-90 cm put the center 7-7-8-7-8 sts on a st holder for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 7-7-7-8-8 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 80-83-86-89-92 cm. Left front: Cast on 23-24-26-28-29 sts with 2 strands Vienna + 1 strand Ull-Flamé. Take away 1 strand Vienna and knit 2 rows garter st, then knit stockinette st, keeping 3 sts in garter st at the side (for the edge of the side split) and 6-6-7-7-7 sts at center front edge in garter st for the buttonband. When the piece measures 15 cm end side split and put a marker at the side. Continue in stockinette st, keeping the buttonband sts in garter st. When the piece measures 32 and 56 cm dec 1 st at the side = 21-22-24-26-27 sts. Read the entire next section before knitting: Collar: When the piece measures 56-59-62-65-68 cm increase for collar inside of the 6-6-7-7-7 buttonband sts - see increasing tips: inc 1 st every 15 cm 3 times (NOTE: you will be making the last inc after all collar sts are on same needle – see instructions below under Assembly). Armhole: At the same time when the piece measures 59-61-63-65-67 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back. When the piece measures 80-83-86-89-92 cm bind off the 7-7-7-8-8 shoulder sts and put the remaining 13-13-14-14-14 sts on a st holder. Right front: Cast on and knit the same as the left, reversing all shaping. Sleeve: Cast on 16-16-16-18-18 sts with 2 strands Vienna + 1 strand Ull-Flamé. Take away 1 strand Vienna and knit garter st for 14 cm, then change to stockinette st. At the same time after the garter st inc 1 st at each side every 10-10-7-7-6 cm a total of 4-4-5-5-5 times = 24-24-26-28-28 sts. When sleeve measures 49-47-45-44-42 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time and then 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 57 cm, bind off the remaining sts. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Collar: Put sts from one front on needles, pick up 1 st before back neckband, put sts from st holder on needle, pick up 1 st on the other side of back neckband, and put sts from the other front on needles = 35-35-38-37-38 sts. Knit 1 row (right side row), increasing 3 sts evenly distributed over the sts at the back of the neck and 1-2-3-4-4 sts on each front (do not inc over the 6-6-7-7-7 button band sts) = 40-42-47-48-49 sts. Continue with stockinette st and 6-6-7-7-7 sts in garter st at each side at the center front edge - remember to make the last inc at each side for the collar when the collar measures approx. 6 cm (see instructions under Front above). When the collar measures 18 cm knit 4 rows garter st over all sts, then bind off with 1 strand Ull-Flamé + 2 strands Vienna, at the same time increasing 1 st in every 5th st – so that the edge will be elastic. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams in one down to the marker. Belt: Cast on 5 sts with 1 strand Vienna + 1 strand Ull-Flamé. Knit garter st until belt measures approx. 150 cm, bind off. HAT: Sizes: S/M - M/L Materials: Garnstudio SNOW, 100% wool, 50 g./50 m 100-100 gr nr 03, brown and use: Garnstudio VIENNA 90% mohair, 10% polyester, 50 g./95 m 50-50 gr nr 10, burgundy DROPS 10 mm needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Gauge: 8.5 sts x 11 rows with 1 strand Snow + 1 strand Vienna in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Hat: Cast on 42-45 sts with 1 strand of each yarn. knit 1 row (wrong side row), then change to stockinette st. When the piece measures 12 cm (end after a wrong side row) put 6-5 markers in as follows: 1st marker after 1 st, then put markers with 7-9 sts between each, after the last marker there are 6-8 sts. On the next row, knit K 2 tog on left side of each marker, repeat decs every other row 3-5 times and then every 4 rows 2 times = 6-5 sts remain on needles. Cut yarn and pull through the remaining sts, pull tight and fasten. The hat measures approx. 26-29 cm up to the top. Sew hat back. SCARF: Measurements: approx. 39 cm x 2 meters Materials: Garnstudio VIENNA 90% mohair, 10% polyester, 50 g./95 m 150 gr nr 10, burgundy DROPS 10 mm needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
