Hallo.

Hi I’m just wondering. Are the final length measurements correct for this cardigan. It seems rather long for the size I am making (2years). Looking at other drops patterns, this 1 is 8cm longer.
11.12.2023 - 11:31DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Duffy, measurements are right, jacket is a bit longer than the recent patterns. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot !

I am making the sleeves. Am confused.Once sleeve shaping starts, it says put 2 sts on holder each side of marker. does that mean a total of 5?Then put sts on holder for sleeve cap. what do you knit? Aren't all sts then on a holder?

"Gardener cardigan" in Safran.
DROPS Baby 6-12 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows on larger needle in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm . Rib: *knit 1, purl 1*. Repeat from * - *. Border: Knit 2 cm stockinette st, 1 row purl (for the folding-edge), knit 2 cm stockinette st. Pattern: See chart. (chart M.1 + M.2 = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Body: Knit the ribbing flat, then knit the rest of the cardigan in the round and cut armhole and center front steeks afterwards. Cast on 135-147-159 (183-195- 207) sts (including 1 edge st each side) on smaller circular needles with bottle green, knit 2 cm rib. Change to larger circular needles; join and cast on 3 sts in the center front -- these sts + the 2 edge sts = 5 steek sts and should not be knit into the pattern. Place a marker at one side of the steek sts. Knit pattern M.1 and M.2 until the work measures 20-19-24 (29-25-29) cm . Knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts, 31-34-37 (43-46-49) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 63-69-75 (87-93-99) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 31-34-37 (43-46-49) sts for the front. On the next row cast on 5 sts over the bound off sts on each side (these sts are for the armhole steeks and should not be knit into the pattern). Dec 1 st on each side of the armhole steek sts every row 5-5-4 (7-7-7) times, then every other row 2 times, then every 4th row 1 time. Fronts = 23-26-30 (33-36-39) sts + steek sts, back = 47-53-61 (67-73-79) sts. At the same time, when the work measures 28-27-33 (38-38-42) cm , bind off the center 12-14-16 (16-22-23) sts + the 5 steek sts in the front and knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. Work even until the piece measures 30-30-36 (42-42-47) cm , then bind off the center 19-21-23 (23-29-31) sts in the back for the neck. Bind off at each back neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. Bind off all sts when the work measures 32-32-38 (44-44-49) cm (adjust for complete pattern). Sleeves: Cast on 40-44-46 (48-48-52) sts on smaller double pointed needles with bottle green; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib for 2 cm . Change to larger double pointed needles and knit pattern M.1 and M.2. At the same time, after the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 9-9-11 (12-22-22) times: Sizes 0/3 mos. + 3/4 years: alternately every 2nd and 3rd row Sizes 6/9 + 12/18 mos.: every 4th row Size 2 years: alternately every 3rd and 4th row Size 5/6 years: every 3rd row = 58-62-68 (72-92-96) sts. When the work measures 11-15-17 (18-22-26) cm , put 2 sts on a stitch holder each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Then put sts on a stitch holder for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 3 sts 1-1-1 (2-3-4) times, 2 sts 1-2-3 (2-5-3) times, 1 st 5-4-2 (2-0-0) times, 2 sts 2-2-3 (3-0-0) times, 3 sts 1-1-1 (2-3-4) times. The work measures approx. 17-21-23 (25-29-33) cm . Put the sts on the sleeve cap back on the needle and knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off all sts loosely. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts on each side and in the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, each 1/2 stitch from the marker thread. Cut up for armholes and in the center front. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 70-70-85 (95-95-105) sts on smaller needles with bottle green along the left front and knit Border, bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 0.5 cm make 5-5-6 (7-7-8) buttonholes evenly distributed (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts, cast on 2 new sts on the next row. Remember to make corresponding buttonholes on the folded-over side). Pick up approx. 70-110 sts around the neck on smaller needle with bottle green and knit rib and at the same time make 1 buttonhole positioned directly over the other buttonholes on the first row. Bind off after 2 cm . Sew sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the cardigan inside out and sew the seam allowance over the cut edge on the body by hand. Fold the edges of the buttonband over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew on buttons. |
