Is there any way I can knit this pattern 39-21 without steeking. Happy to do back and forwards on circular needles but unclear how Iwould do the pattern around the sleeves. Any advice welcome
18.08.2024 - 17:30DROPS Design answered:
Dear Cathy, the steeks are used to avoid having to align the pattern when working separate pieces. You can try to work the pattern back and forth without steeks but you would need to calculate yourself how the pattern is aligned. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot !

Knitting Tension: 20 sts x 26 rows on needle size 4 mm in pattern = 10 x 10 cm Hem: 4 cm stocking st, P 1 row (= folding edge, measure piece from here), continue in stocking st as follows: *1 st light heather, 1 st beige*, repeat from *-* for 2 rounds, change light heather to brown and continue with 1 st brown 1 st beige until Hem measures 4 cm from folding edge. Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Front and back piece: Knitted in the round and cut for armhole and mid front afterwards. Cast on 210-218-228 sts + 5 sts mid front (to be cut afterwards and not included in pattern) on circular needle size 3 mm with brown and work Hem. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and continue in pattern, at the same time 10-22-32 sts evenly on round = 220-240-260 sts (+ 5 sts). Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 45-48-51 cm inc 5 sts each side for armhole (to be cut for armholes afterwards and not included in pattern). When piece measures 67-70-74 cm cast off 28-30-30 sts mid front + 5 sts to be cut, for neck and complete back and forth. Dec to shape the neckline each side on every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 3 times. At the same time when piece measures 70-73-77 cm cast of the middle 34-36-36 sts on back for neck and dec 2 sts on neckline on next row. Cast off remaining sts when piece measures 72-75-79 cm – adjust to pattern. Sleeve: Knitted round on double pointed needles. Cast on 48-48-50 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm with brown and work Hem. Change to needle size 4 mm and continue in pattern – make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve- at the same time inc 6-6-6 sts evenly on first round = 54-54-56 sts. At the same time after Hem inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 27-27-28 times as follows: Size S: on every 4th round Size M/L: on every 3rd and 4th * round alternately = 108-108-112 sts – incorporate the new sts in pattern as you go along. When piece measures 48-47-46 cm knit 2 cm in reverse stocking st = edge for sewing on sleeve to body piece. Cast off and knit the other sleeve. Assembly: Insert a marking thread in the middle of the inc sts for armhole each side and mid front. Make 2 seams each side on your sewing machine, the first seam ½ st from the MT and the other one ½ st from the first one. Cut the piece between these for armholes and mid front. Sew shoulder seams. Front edges: Pick up approx 130 sts on needle size 3 mm with brown along left front piece and work 3 cm stocking st, change to light heather, 1 row stocking st, P 1 row, change to brown and work 3 cm stocking st back and forth on needle, cast off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm make 6-7 buttonholes evenly distributed on row. 1 buttonhole = cast off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row. Remember buttonholes on both sides of Hem. Fold Hem double towards WS and fasten. Neckline: Pick up approx 100 sts round the neck on needle size 3 mm with brown and continue as follows in stocking st: *1 st brown, 1 st beige*, repeat from *-* for 3 cm, change brown to light heather and work 2 rows, work 1 row in brown, P 1 row in brown and then 3.5 cm stocking st in brown back and forth on needle, cast off. Fold double towards WS and fasten. Set in sleeves from the RS as follows: sew in the last row before the edge in reverse stocking sts on sleeves to the first row after the seam in the sts for cutting on body piece. Turn the jumper inside out and sew the piece in stocking sts over the cutting edge on body piece. Fold Hem at bottom of body piece and sleeves double towards WS and fasten. Sew on buttons. |
