------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can be left with a small hole in the transition between the stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). CAST-OFF WITH PICOT: Slip the 1st knit stitch from the left to the right needle without it twisting. Take the strand between the needles and to the front of the piece, slip the 2 outermost stitches (= the 1st knit stitch + the last stitch of the round) on the right needle onto the left needle without them twisting. Take the strand in front and round these 2 stitches, then to the back of the piece. Knit the 2 stitches together and purl 1 stitch. On the right needle pass the 2nd stitch over the 1st stitch = 1 decreased stitch. Work now as follows: * Slip the next stitch from the left to the right needle without it twisting (2 stitches on right needle). Take the strand between the needles and to the front of the piece, slip the 2 stitches on the right needle back onto the left needle without them twisting. Take the strand in front and round these 2 stitches, then to the back of the piece. Knit the 2 stitches together, then purl 1 stitch. On the right needle pass the 2nd stitch over the 1st stitch * = 1 decreased stitch. Repeat from *-* until all stitches are cast off. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are started back and forth top down, increasing for the neckline and the saddle-shoulders. The yoke is then continued in the round from mid-back. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. Stitches are knitted up for the neck which is worked in the round to finish. YOKE: Cast on 80-82-84-86-90-92-94 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Sky. Insert 4 markers without working the stitches; the markers are used when increasing for the saddle-shoulders. Count 2 stitches and insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 23 stitches (= shoulder-stitches), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 30-32-34-36-40-42-44 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 23 stitches (= shoulder-stitches), insert marker-4 here. There are 2 stitches left. SADDLE-SHOULDER INCREASES: Work back and forth as follows, increasing on each side of the 23 shoulder-stitches (the stitch count on the shoulders remains the same) and casting on for the neckline each side as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and increase 4 stitches as follows: Increase towards the right BEFORE markers 1 and 3, towards the left AFTER markers 2 and 4 – read INCREASE TIP-1, cast on 1 stitch at end of row = 85-87-89-91-95-97-99 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl and increase 4 stitches as follows: Increase towards the right BEFORE markers 2 and 4, towards the left AFTER markers 3 and 1 – read INCREASE TIP-2, cast on 1 stitch at end of row = 90-92-94-96-100-102-104 stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Knit and cast on 1 stitch at end of row; do not increase for the saddle-shoulders on this row = 91-93-95-97-101-103-105 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl and increase 4 stitches as follows: Increase towards the right BEFORE markers 4 and 2, towards the left AFTER markers 3 and 1 – remember INCREASE TIP-2, cast on 1 stitch at end of row = 96-98-100-102-106-108-110 stitches. ROW 5 (right side): Knit and increase 4 stitches as follows: Increase towards the right BEFORE markers 1 and 3, towards the left AFTER markers 2 and 4 – remember INCREASE TIP-1, cast on 1 stitch at end of row = 101-103-105-107-111-113-115 stitches. ROW 6 (wrong side): Purl and cast on 1 stitch at end of row = 102-104-106-108-112-114-116 stitches. Cut the strand. The piece is now continued in the round. Turn to the right side and move the first 51-52-53-54-56-57-58 stitches from the left to the right needle; the round begins mid-back. ROUND 7: Knit and increase as before by the markers. When you have worked to mid-front, cast on 20-22-24-26-30-32-34 stitches for the neckline, knit and increase as before by the markers to mid-back = 126-130-134-138-146-150-154 stitches. 4 stitches increased for the saddle-shoulders and stitches cast on for the front neckline. The round begins mid-back. ROUND 8: Knit and increase towards the right BEFORE markers 1 and 3, towards the left AFTER markers 2 and 4 (4 increased stitches) = 130-134-138-142-150-154-158 stitches. ROUND 9: Knit without increasing. ROUND 10: Work ROUND 8 (4 stitches increased). ROUND 11: Work ROUND 8 (4 stitches increased). ROUND 12: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 10 to 12 a total of 8 times in all sizes (24 rounds worked with 64 increased stitches) = 194-198-202-206-214-218-222 stitches. You have worked 33 rows/rounds from the cast-on edge. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. The piece measures approx. 12 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. There are 23 stitches on each shoulder and 74-76-78-80-84-86-88 stitches on the front and back pieces. Now increase for the sleeves. SLEEVE INCREASES: Knit and increase 4 stitches on the round as follows: Increase towards the left AFTER markers 1 and 3, towards the right BEFORE markers 2 and 4. You now only increase for the sleeves; the stitch count on the front and back pieces remains the same. Increase like this every 2nd round 10-11-13-11-10-8-8 times (20-22-26-22-20-16-16 rounds worked) = 234-242-254-250-254-250-254 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of one set of 23 shoulder-stitches; the armhole is measured from here. Now increase for the yoke. YOKE INCREASES: Knit and increase 8 stitches on the round as follows (before and after each marker): * Knit until there are 2 stitches left before the first marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left *, repeat from *-* one more time, knit to end of round (8 increased stitches). Increase like this every 2nd round 12-14-15-19-21-25-27 times (24-28-30-38-42-50-54 rounds worked) = 330-354-374-402-422-450-470 stitches. Continue stocking stitch until the piece measures 21-23-25-26-27-29-30 cm from the marker on the shoulder and down the armhole (5 cm depth on the saddle-shoulders and 16-18-20-21-22-24-25 cm of increases). Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Knit 49-52-54-59-63-68-71 (half the back piece), place the next 67-73-79-83-85-89-93 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 98-104-108-118-126-136-142 stitches (front piece), place the next 67-73-79-83-85-89-93 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 49-52-54-59-63-68-71 stitches (= half the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 204-220-232-252-272-292-308 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-6-8-8-10-10-12 cast-on stitches under the sleeve. Knit to the marker; the round now begins here. Work stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the marker mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 38-44-46-52-52-62-66 stitches evenly on the first round = 242-264-278-304-324-354-374 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm, change to circular needle size 4 mm and CAST OFF WITH PICOT – read explanation above. The jumper measures approx. 53-55-57-59-61-63-65 cm from the marker mid-back. SLEEVES: Place the 67-73-79-83-85-89-93 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-8-8-10-10-12 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 71-79-87-91-95-99-105 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-6-8-8-10-10-12 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 3 times every 2nd round, then 2 stitches every 2-2-1-1-1-1-1 cm 3-5-8-9-9-9-12 times = 59-63-65-67-71-75-75 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 35-35-33-33-32-30-30 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 21 stitches evenly on the first round = 80-84-86-88-92-96-96 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm, change to needle size 4 mm and cast off with picot. The sleeve measures approx. 38-38-36-36-35-33-33 cm from the division. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 mm. Start from the right side on the right back shoulder and knit up 106-110-114-118-126-130-134 stitches around the neckline, inside 1 stitch. Purl 1 round, then work stocking stitch in the round for 3½-3½-3½-4-4-4-4 cm. Change to needle size 4 mm and cast off slightly loosely with knit. |
