Bon tricot!

Hi, I have bought the yarn for the large size of this jumper and have just started making it but it has just occurred to me that for the large size it requires 11 balls of the yarn. As this jumper is knitted with 3 strands of yarn, and 11 is not a multiple of 3, what should I do when I only have 2 balls of yarn left but still need to work with 3 strands of yarn? Thanks, Nancy
07.12.2024 - 21:18DROPS Design answered:
Dear Nancy, you can break down a single ball into smaller skeins of yarn. For example, since 1 ball of yarn is 210m you can separate it into 3 skeins of approx. 70 m each and you can have 6 skeins from 2 balls of yarn, which should allow you to work with 3 threads. You can also check the following video for more information: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=605&lang=en. Happy knitting!

Hei!

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch before/after the marker-stitch, in each transition between the body and sleeves, by making 1 yarn over. On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MARKER-STITCH: Slip yarn over onto right needle knit-wise, insert left needle and place yarn over twisted onto left needle, knit the front loop (no hole). AFTER MARKER-STITCH: Knit the yarn over twisted. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short circular needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round top down. The neck is folded double and sewn down to finish. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 96-96-100-104-104-108 stitches with 3 strands DROPS Kid-Silk and circular needle size 5 mm. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 9 cm. The neck is later folded double. Insert 1 marker mid-back, the yoke is measured from this marker. YOKE: Insert 4 markers without working the stitches as follows: Count 14-14-16-16-18-20 stitches (= half back piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 19-19-17-17-13-13 stitches (= sleeve) insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 27-27-31-33-37-39 stitches (= front piece) insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 19-19-17-17-13-13 stitches (= sleeve) insert 1 marker in the next stitch, there are 13-13-15-17-19-19 stitches after the last marker (= half back piece). All the marker-stitches should be knitted stitches. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, begin increasing for RAGLAN – read description above. Increase for raglan every 2nd round a total of 9-8-13-15-19-21 times = 168-160-204-224-256-276 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue increasing for raglan every 2nd round but every other increase is only on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase on the front and back pieces every 2nd round, on the sleeves every 4th round (increase alternately 4 and 8 stitches). Increase like this 11-15-10-11-10-10 times on the front and back pieces (5-7-5-5-5-5 times on the sleeves). You increase a total of 20-23-23-26-29-31 times on the front and back pieces and 14-15-18-20-24-26 times on the sleeves = 232-248-264-288-316-336 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the yoke measures 20-22-24-25-28-30 cm from the marker mid-back of neck. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: On the next round divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Knit 35-38-40-43-48-52 (= half back piece), place the next 47-49-53-57-61-65 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-10-14 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 69-75-79-87-97-103 (= front piece), place the next 47-49-53-57-61-65 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-10-14 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit the last 34-37-39-44-49-51 stitches (= half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 154-166-178-194-214-234 stitches. Start in the middle of the cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work stocking stitch in the round until the body measures 19-19-20-21-21-21 cm from the division. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, increase 14-16-20-22-26-28 stitches evenly spaced = 168-182-198-216-240-262 stitches. When the rib measures 5 cm, cast off a little loosely with rib. The jumper measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 47-49-53-57-61-65 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-10-14 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 55-57-63-67-71-79 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-10-14 stitches under the sleeve and work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 5-4-3-3-3-3 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6-5-4-3-2½-2 cm a total of 6-7-9-11-11-14 times = 43-43-45-45-49-51 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 39-38-36-35-32-30 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, increase 7-7-9-9-9-9 stitches evenly spaced = 50-50-54-54-58-60 stitches. When the rib measures 5 cm, cast off slightly loosely with rib ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
