------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. DECREASE TIP-1: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker and decrease as follows: Knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. DECREASE TIP-2: All decreases are done from the right side! Decrease after 4 edge stitches as follows: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked Decrease before 4 edge stitches as follows: Begin 2 stitches before the 4 edge stitches and knit 2 together. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SHORTS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Piece is worked bottom up and in 2 parts until after leg opening. Then work piece in the round before dividing at the waist, and continuing front piece back and forth. BACK PIECE: Cast on 14-16-18 (20) stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Baby Merino. Work in stocking stitch back and forth - AT THE SAME TIME cast on 2 new stitches at the end of every row 11 times in total in each side = 58-60-62 (64) stitches. Piece measures approx. 7 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Put piece aside and work the front piece. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 14-16-18 (20) stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Baby Merino. Work in stocking stitch back and forth on needle for 5 cm. Now cast on 6 new stitches at the end of every row 2 times in total in each side, then cast on 10 new stitches 1 time in each side = 58-60-62 (64) stitches. Piece measures approx. 7 cm. BODY: Slip stitches from front and back piece on to same circular needle size 3 mm = 116-120-124 (128) stitches. Insert 1 marker in each side (= 58-60-62 (64) stitches between markers) - NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE. Work in stocking stitch in the round - round begins in the side. When piece measures 2 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of both markers - read DECREASE TIP-1 (= 4 stitches decreased). Repeat decrease every 4th-4th-5th (6th) round 6 times in total = 92-96-100 (104) stitches. When piece measures 10-11-12 (13) cm from markers (piece measures approx. 17-18-19 (20) cm from cast-on edge), work an elevation at the back for better fit as follows: Knit as before over the first 46-48-50 (52) stitches, i.e. until 2nd marker (= front piece - NOTE: Do not work elevation over these stitches), knit until 6 stitches remain before marker at the beginning of round. Turn and purl until 6 stitches remain before marker in the other side, turn piece. Knit until 12 stitches remain before marker, turn piece and purl until 12 stitches remain before marker in the other side, turn piece. Knit until 18 stitches remain before marker, turn piece. Purl until 18 stitches remain before marker in the other side, turn piece. Knit until 24 stitches remain before marker, turn piece and purl until 24 stitches remain before marker. Turn piece and knit back to beginning of round (= the side). Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and knit 1 round over all stitches - increase AT THE SAME TIME 4-8-4-8 stitches evenly = 96-104-104 (112) stitches - NOTE: To avoid holes at every turn pick up loop between 2 stitches and knit twisted together with next stitch on needle. Then work rib in the round as follows: 1/3 MONTHS + 2 YEARS: * Purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* the entire round. 6/9 + 12/18 MONTHS: *Knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* the entire round. When rib measures 1½ cm, work a lace edge as follows: 1/3 MONTHS + 2 YEARS: * Purl 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 2 *, work from *-* the entire round. 6/9 + 12/18 MONTHS: * Knit 2, purl 2 together, 1 yarn over *, work from *-* the entire round. Work rib until 1 round remains before rib measures 3 cm. Work next round as follows: Work rib as before over the first 48-52-52 (56) stitches (= front piece), cast off the next 48-52-52 (56) stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl (= back piece) - read CAST-OFF TIP. FRONT PIECE: Insert 1 marker, NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! Switch to circular needle size 3 mm and work first row from right side as follows: 4 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, 9-11-11 (9) stitches in stocking stitch, work A.1 over the next 24-24-24 (32) stitches (= 3-3-3 (4) repetitions of 8 stitches), 7-9-9 (7) stitches in stocking stitch and 4 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this back and forth. AT THE SAME TIME after 1-0-1 (1) cm, decrease 1 stitch in each side - read DECREASE TIP-2. Repeat decrease every 2nd-4th-4th (6th) row 7-8-8 (6) times in total = 34-36-36 (44) stitches. When piece measures 6-9-11 (12) cm from marker - adjust so that next row is from right side, work 4 ridges back and forth over all stitches. Work next row as follows from right side: Knit 8-9-9 (10) - slip these stitches on 1 stitch holder for shoulder strap, cast off the next 18-18-18 (24) stitches, knit the last 8-9-9 (10) (= shoulder strap). SHOULDER STRAP: Continue in garter stitch back and forth on circular needle size 2.5 mm until shoulder strap measures approx. 18-20-22 (24) cm (or desired length). Cast off and work the other one the same way. LEG EDGE: Pick up approx. 60 stitches in all sizes (from right side) along one leg opening on circular needle size 2.5 mm. Knit 5 rows (= 3 ridges). Loosely cast off by knitting from right side. Work an edge along the other leg opening the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew opening between legs inside 1 edge stitch - i.e. sew together one leg edge, then sew seam between leg openings, and finally sew the other leg edge together. Fasten a button at the bottom on each shoulder strap. Use holes in eyelet row on rib to button. Thread the silk ribbon up and down through lace row in waist– start and finish mid front Tie a bow mid front. |
