Dear Anna, just make the yarn over (pass the yarn over the right needle) before knitting first stitch on the row. On next row, work YO into front loop so that it creates a hole. Happy knitting!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows (1 ridge = 2 knitted rows). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work back and forth, top down on circular needle in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Knit yarn overs to make holes when increasing. SHAWL: Cast on 9 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with light grey. Knit 1 row. On next row work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased). Work ROWS 1-2 5 times in total = 29 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now work stripes with alternately 1 ridge light old pink and 1 ridge light grey. To move the strands up the piece work with both strands at beginning of row. Begin with light old pink and work as follows: ROW 9 (= right side): Use both colours: Make 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch with both colours Remove the colour not used, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of the stitches (= 2 stitches increased). ROW 10 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased). * Switch to light grey and work ROWS 9-10. There are 313 stitches on needle and the strand in light old pink can be cut and fastened. Continue with light grey. ROW 11 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 102 times in total and knit 4 (= 104 stitches increased), 417 stitches on needle. ROW 12 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased) = 419 stitches on needle. Now work stripes with alternately 1 ridge grey and 1 ridge light grey. To move the strands up the piece work with both strands at beginning of row. Begin with grey and work as follows: ROW 13 (= right side): Use both colours: Make 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch with both colours Remove the colour not used, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of the stitches (= 2 stitches increased). ROW 14 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased). * Switch to light grey and work ROWS 13-14. Switch to grey and work ROWS 13-14 *. Work from *-* 5 times in total = 6 ridges grey and 5 ridges light grey in total. There are 463 stitches on needle and the strand in light grey can be cut and fastened. Continue with grey and work ROWS 1-2 25 times more in total = 25 ridges with grey. There are 563 stitches on needle and the strand in grey can be cut and fastened. CAST-OFF WITH PICOT: Switch to old pink and loosely cast off from right side as follows: Knit 1, * insert right needle between the first 2 stitches on left needle (i.e. between stitches on needle, not through stitches), make 1 yarn over on right needle, pull yarn over forward between the stitches and slip yarn over on to left needle *, work from *-* 3 times in total (= 3 new stitches on left needle), knit and cast of the next 6 stitches 1 by 1 (= 1st stitch on right needle + 3 yarn overs and 2 stitches from left needle). Now continue to work from *-* + cast off 6 stitches the same way along the entire cast-off until there are no stitches left to make a new picot and cast off the remaining stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch, tighten tog and fasten. |
