I am speaking of the collar... can you describe in more detail how to do the collar. I'm making size LARGE. thanks
04.11.2012 - 20:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Jarrod Martin, for size L, you have first to inc 1 st in the outermost st towards mid front on every 2½ cm a total of 6 times when piece measures 39 cm. Then, when piece measures 52 cm, cast off the first 8 sts on front band. After you cast off sts for shoulder, you continue with shortened rows on the remaining sts for the collar : *2 rows on all sts, 2 rows on the first 8 sts only, leaving remaining sts unworked*, repeat from *-* until collar measures 8 cm (shorter side). Happy Knitting !

For pattern 108-27, on the last part of front pieces Can you clarify? I'm not making sense of it. (after the shoulder bind-off) Do I work 2 rows (all 15 sts), then bind off all but 8 remaining sts, then work the 8 sts until it measures 3 1/8" (from the shoulder bind off?) or, do i work all 15 sts until it measures 3 1/8"? and, is this all done with pattern M1? thanks!
04.11.2012 - 17:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear Jarrod Martin, as indicated above, you will have to work this way : *2 rows on all the 15 sts, 2 rows on the first 8 sts only, leaving remaining sts unworked*, and repeat these 4 rows until collar measures 3 1/8” on the shorter side. The collar sts are worked following M1. Happy Knitting!

Hi Susan, yes you are right, after binding off for neck, you should work each shoulder separate.

Hello, I'm knitting pattern no. 108-27 which is one of your designs and on the back you say to bind off the middle stitchs for neck and dec 1 st. on neckline on next row =22 stitchs left on each shoulder. Do you now work each shoulder separate? Your patterns usually tell you to work it that way but on this one I wasn't sure. Please let me know. Thank you so much for your help.

Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS. Back piece: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 74-80-87-96-106-116 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) with 1 thread of each colour (= 2 threads) on needle size 5 mm. Work 2 rows garter st, and now complete piece in stocking st. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 8 cm dec 1 st each side on every 2 cm a total of 5 times = 64-70-77-86-96-106 sts. When piece measures 22 cm inc 1 st each side on every 5-5-6-6-7-7 cm a total of 3 times = 70-76-83-92-102-112 sts. When piece measures 37-38-39-40-41-42 cm cast off for armhole each side at the beg of every row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 0-1-2-3-4-6 times and 1 st 1-1-1-3-5-5 times = 62-64-67-68-70-72 sts. When piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm cast off the middle 16-18-19-20-22-22 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 22-22-23-23-23-24 sts left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Right front piece: Cast on 44-46-50-54-59-64 sts (includes 1 edge st at side and 16-16-17-17-18-18 front band sts) on needle size 5 mm with 1 thread of each colour. Work 2 rows garter st and continue as follows from RS and mid front: M.1 on the first 16-16-17-17-18-18 sts (= front band), stocking st on the next 27-29-32-36-40-45 sts, and finish row with 1 edge st. Continue in pattern like this. When piece measures 8 cm dec at side as described for back piece = 39-41-45-49-54-59 sts. When piece measures 22 cm inc at side as described for back piece = 42-44-48-52-57-62 sts. When piece measures 35-37-39-41-43-45 cm inc 1 st in the outermost st towards mid front on every 2½ cm a total of 6 times – incorporate the inc sts in M.1 as you go along. At the same time when piece measures 37-38-39-40-41-42 cm cast off for armhole as described for back piece. After all dec and inc there are 44-44-46-46-47-48 sts on row. When piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm (inc towards mid front are now complete) cast off the first 8 sts on front band = 36-36-38-38-39-40 sts. When piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm cast off the outermost 22-22-23-23-23-24 sts for shoulder and work remaining sts on row. Continue on the remaining 14-14-15-15-16-16 sts (M.1) for collar with shortened rows as follows: * work 2 rows on all sts, work 2 rows on the 7-7-8-8-8-8 sts towards mid front only *, repeat from *-* until collar measures 8-8-8-9-9-9 cm (on the shorter side) from shoulder. Cast off. Left front piece: Cast on and work like right front piece, but mirrored. Sleeve: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 42-44-44-46-48-50 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 5 mm with 1 thread of each colour and work 2 rows garter st. Now continue in M.1 with 1 edge st each side. When piece measures 10 cm continue in stocking st. When piece measures 12 cm inc 1 st each side on every 5½-4½-3½-3- 2½-2 cm a total of 7-8-10-11-13-14 times = 56-60-64-68-74-78 sts. When piece measures 49-48-48-47-46-44 cm - Note! Less on the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulder – cast off for sleeve cap each side at the beg of every row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3-3-3-3-4-4 times, 1 st 0-1-2-3-3-5 times, now cast off 2 sts each side until piece measures 55-55-56-56-57-57 cm, cast off 3 sts each side 1 time, and cast off remaining sts on next row. Sleeve measures approx 56-56-57-57-58-58 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seam. Set in sleeves and sew side and sleeve seam inside 1 edge st. Sew tog collar mid back and sew to neckline. Pocket flap: Cast on 17 sts with 1 thread of each colour and work M.1 on all sts. Cast off when piece measures 5 cm. Make another pocket flap. Attach 1 pocket flap to each front piece, in the middle of the stocking st section, approx 16 to 20 cm from bottom edge. Crochet border: Crochet a border round the entire opening of jacket on crochet hook size 5 mm with 1 thread of each colour as follows (beg at bottom of right front piece, round neckline, down along left front piece and along bottom edge): 1 dc, * 3 ch, skip 0.5 -1 cm, 1 dc *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round. Crochet a similar border round sleeve edges. Sew the 3 buttons to left front piece, in the transition between front band and stocking st section, approx 18, 24 and 30 cm from bottom edge. Use crochet border as buttonholes. |
