------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Choose the diagram for your size (applies to A.1 and A.3). The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting tension losing its elasticity when working pattern it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if the piece becomes tight. KNITTING TIP-2: The pattern can be adjusted to get an elf, Christmas tree and heart above each other, mid-front of the sock. If you have room for an odd number of repeats on the round, start the round mid-back with the first stitch in the diagram as usual. If you have room for an even number of repeats on the round, start the round mid-back but with the 5th stitch in the diagram. HEEL: Work stocking stitch back and forth with colour light grey as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work until there is 1 stitch left, turn. ROW 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch as if to purl, tighten the strand and work until there is 1 stitch left, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, tighten the strand and work until there are 2 stitches left, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch as if to purl, tighten the strand and work until there are 2 stitches left, turn. Continue to turn like this until there are 8-10-10-12-12-14-16 stitches left in the middle of the row. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row – the foot is measured from this marker! Continue back and forth as before but now working 1 more stitch each time you turn. To avoid holes in the transitions as you turn, pick up the strand before the extra stitch and place it twisted on the left needle. Knit together the twisted strand and the next stitch from the right side, purl them together from the wrong side. Continue the rows until you have worked all the stitches on the row. DECREASE TIP (for toe): Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCK – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, from the leg down to the toe. The sock-length equals the foot-length. If you want a sock which is slightly stretched when worn shorten the foot-length before decreasing for the toe. LEG: Cast on 44-44-52-56-64-64-72 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and colour forest green DROPS Karisma. Knit 1 round, then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) and stripes as follows: 2 rounds with colour forest green, 2 rounds with colour light grey and 4 rounds with colour forest green, then continue the rib with colour light grey until it measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Knit 1 round with colour light grey and decrease 4-4-4-8-8-8-8 stitches evenly spaced = 40-40-48-48-56-56-64 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Read KNITTING TIP-1 and KNITTING TIP-2. Work A.1, 5-5-6-6-7-7-8 times on the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! On the round marked with arrow-1 decrease 8 stitches evenly spaced (only applies to sizes 35/37 and 41/43) = 40-40-48-48-48-56-56 stitches (room for 5-5-6-6-6-7-7 repeats of A.1). On the round marked with arrow-2 decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced (applies only to size 38/40) = 40-40-48-48-48-52-56 stitches. When A.1 is finished work stocking stitch with colour light grey until the piece measures 14-14-14-18-19-20-20 cm, or until you have worked at least 1 cm with colour light grey after A.1. Now work the heel and foot. HEEL AND FOOT: Knit the first 10-10-12-12-12-13-14 stitches and keep them on the needle for the heel, place the next 20-20-24-24-24-26-28 stitches on a thread (top of foot) and keep the last 10-10-12-12-12-13-14 stitches on the needle for the heel = 20-20-24-24-24-26-28 heel-stitches. Work HEEL with colour light grey – read description above. When the heel is finished, work as described below but to avoid holes in the corners of the heel on the first round, pick up the strand before the next stitch and place it twisted on the left needle; knit the strand together with the next stitch. Work A.2 on the round – AT THE SAME TIME on the round marked with arrow-3 decrease 0-0-8-0-0-4-0 stitches evenly spaced = 40-40-40-48-48-48-56 stitches (there is now room for 5-5-5-6-6-6-7 repeats of A.2). When A.2 is finished, continue with stocking stitch and light grey. When the piece measures 7-9-8-10-11-12-14 cm from the marker on the heel – measured under the foot, work A.3, 5-5-5-6-6-6-7 times on the round. When A.3 is finished the foot measures approx. 11-13-14-16-18-19-21 cm from the heel-marker – measured under the foot. Knit 1 round with colour forest green and decrease 6-4-2-8-6-2-6 stitches evenly spaced = 34-36-38-40-42-46-50 stitches. There is approx. 4-4-4-4-4-5-5 cm left; try the sock on and work with colour forest green to desired length before decreasing for the toe. TOE: Insert 1 marker on each side of the sock, with 17-18-19-20-21-23-25 stitches on top of and underneath the foot. Work stocking stitch with colour forest green and on the first row decrease for the toe on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 6-6-6-5-5-7-6 times, then every round 0-1-1-3-3-2-4 times = 10-8-10-8-10-10-10 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The sock measures approx. 15-17-18-20-22-24-26 cm from the heel-marker, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
