12.06.2025 - 15:18DROPS Design answered:
Liebe Amy, in S stricken Sie die 67 Maschen so: 3 Krausrechte Maschen, 1 M glattrechts, 4 Mal die 14 Maschen A.1 = 56 Maschen, 4 Maschen glattrechts und 3 Maschen krausrechts = 3+1+56+4+3=67 Maschen - in diese Größe brauchen Sie nicht noch einige Maschen A.1 zu stricken. Viel Spaß beim Stricken!

I am working pattern Purely Spring in small size. Pattern says to work 3 stitches in garter, 1 stitch in stocking stitch, 56 stitches in pattern, 4 stitches in stocking stitch, 3 stitches in garter. I have done this on right side. On wrong side do I follow this same sequence (3,1,56,4,3), or do I follow what was previously worked (3,4,56,1,3)?
30.05.2025 - 15:47DROPS Design answered:
Dear Faith, you worked over the stitches of stocking stitch with stocking stitch, the stitches of the pattern over the stitches of the pattern, e.t.c. Otherwise the pattern will get misaligned. So you work: [3,4,56,1,3] back. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to increase for armholes): All increases are done from the right side. Increase 1 stitch in each side as follows: Work 3 stitches in garter stitch, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, work until 4 stitches remain on needle, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 3 stitches in garter stitch. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in pattern A.1. DECREASE TIP (applies sides): Decrease 1 stitch after 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as follows: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 1 stitch decreased). Decrease 1 stitch before 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain on needle, knit the next 2 stitches together (= 1 stitch decreased), 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked back and forth in several pieces and sewn together when finished. Work front and back piece top down. BACK PIECE: Right shoulder: Cast on 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with Cotton Light. Work in stocking stitch back and forth with 3 stitches in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, in each side. When piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm, adjust so that last row is worked from wrong side, cut the strand. Put piece aside. Left shoulder: Cast on 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with Cotton Light. Work in stocking stitch back and forth with 3 stitches in garter stitch in each side until piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm - adjust so that last row is worked from wrong side. Now work the 2 parts together as follows: Work as before over the 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches on left shoulder, cast on 33-35-37-37-39-41 stitches at the end of row for neck, then work the 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches on right shoulder = 67-69-71-75-77-79 stitches. Now continue with stocking stitch, 3 stitches in garter stitch in each side and work the middle 39-41-43-43-45-47 stitches in garter stitch. When 2 ridges have been worked over the middle stitches, work pattern as follows: 3 stitches in garter stitch, 1-2-3-0-1-2 stitches in stocking stitch, A.1 over the next 56 stitches (= 4 repetitions of 14 stitches), work the first 0-0-0-11-11-11 stitches in A.1, 4-5-6-2-3-4 stitches in stocking stitch, 3 stitches in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION. At the same time when piece measures 13-12-12-11-10-8 cm, increase 1 stitch for armholes in each side – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every other row (every row from right side) 5-7-9-11-14-18 times in total. At the end of the next 2 rows cast on 4-6-7-8-10-12 stitches for armholes = 85-95-103-113-125-139 stitches. Continue back and forth with as many stitch of A.1 that can fit and work ridges over the outermost 7-9-10-11-13-15 stitches in each side. When 2 ridges have been worked over these stitches, work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side, pattern A.1 as before and the remaining stitches towards each side in stocking stitch. When piece measures 4 cm from armhole, decrease 1 stitch in each side - read DECREASE TIP. Repeat decrease when piece measures 12-13-14-15-16-17 cm = 81-91-99-109-121-135 stitches. When piece measures 22-23-24-25-26-27 cm from armhole - adjust not to finish in the middle of lace pattern/knot, and work a few rows in stocking stitch if needed to get the correct length after last lace pattern/knot, switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work 3 ridges. Cast off - read CAST-OFF TIP. Back piece measures 40-42-44-46-48-50 cm from shoulder and down. FRONT PIECE: Work as on back piece. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams together with grafting/kitchener stitches inside cast-on edge. Sew seam inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. |
