------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD: Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 2 stitches as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work 2 stitches as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row (wrong side): BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right front piece (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the edge-stitches as before, and purl the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-6-6-7-7 buttonholes with 5-6-5½-6-5½-5½ cm between each one. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can be left with a small hole in the transition between the stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SUIT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down, increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued back and forth until the button-bands are finished, while the sleeves wait. When the button-bands are finished, the body is joined and continued in the round, then divided for the legs which are finished in the round. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 59-59-67-71-79-83 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Air, or work Italian cast-on. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work the next row as follows from the right side: 2 EDGE-STITCHES I-CORD – read explanation above, then rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 1 and work 2 edge-stitches I-cord. Continue this rib back and forth for 2.5-3 cm, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Insert 1 marker inside the 2 edge-stitches on one side (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (the raglan-stitches); you increase for raglan on each side of these stitches. Count 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 7-7-7-9-9-11 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 17-17-21-21-25-25 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 7-7-7-9-9-11 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches left (= right front piece). Work stocking stitch back and forth with edge-stitches as before, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the marker-stitch + 1 stitch on each side (= 3 raglan-stitches) – read explanation above for how to increase. AT THE SAME TIME on the first row decrease 1 stitch on the back piece and 1 stitch on each front piece = 64-64-72-76-84-88 stitches (after the first increase for raglan). Remember to work the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. Increase for raglan every 2nd row on each side of the raglan-stitches a total of 11-12-13-12-13-13 times = 144-152-168-164-180-184 stitches (8 increased stitches on each increase-row). The sleeve increases are finished. Continue increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces every 2nd row 3-3-2-4-3-5 more times (4 increased stitches on each increase-row) = 156-164-176-180-192-204 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. The yoke measures approx. 11-12-12-13-13-14 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 26-27-29-30-32-34 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 29-31-33-33-35-37 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 46-48-52-54-58-62 stitches (= back piece), place the next 29-31-33-33-35-37 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 26-27-29-30-32-34 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 106-114-122-130-138-146 stitches. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch and the edge-stitches as before until the piece measures 28-34-36-39-42-44 cm from the marker mid-front. Now join the piece and continue in the round, from the right side as follows: Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, lay these 6 stitches on top of the first 6 stitches on the left front piece, then work the stitches together (1 stitch from each front piece each time) = 100-108-116-124-132-140 stitches. Continue stocking stitch in the round. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6 knitted-together stitches; the round begins here. Work until the piece measures 31-37-39-42-45-47 cm from the marker mid-front (worked 3 cm in the round). Now divide for the legs which are finished separately. DIVIDE FOR LEGS: Without working the stitches: Start 3 stitches before the marker at the beginning of the round, place the first 6 stitches on a stitch holder (= mid-front), place the next 44-48-52-56-60-64 stitches on a 2nd stitch holder (= left leg), place the next 6 stitches on a 3rd stitch holder (= mid-back), there are 44-48-52-56-60-64 stitches on the needle (= right leg). Each leg is finished separately. LEGS: = 44-48-52-56-60-64 stitches. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (= inside leg) and continue stocking stitch in the round. After 1 round, decrease 2 stitches inside the leg – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3rd round 3 times = 38-42-46-50-54-58 stitches. Work until the leg measures 8-11-17-24-28-32 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1) for 3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Work Italian cast-off, or cast off slightly loosely with rib. The leg measures approx. 11-14-20-28-32-36 cm from the division. SLEEVES: Place the 29-31-33-33-35-37 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-6-8-8-8 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 33-37-39-41-43-45 stitches. Insert a marker in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-8-8 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 round, decrease 2 stitches mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this again after a further 3 cm = 29-33-35-37-39-41 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 7-10-14-17-21-24 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1). AT THE SAME TIME increase 3-3-3-3-5-5 stitches evenly on the first round = 32-36-38-40-44-46 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm, work Italian cast-off, or cast off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 10-13-17-20-24-27 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the 6 stitches from the stitch holder mid-front to the 6 stitches on the stitch holder mid-back, using grafting stitch so the seam is flat. Sew the buttons onto the left front piece. |
