---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work at the back of the crochet hook the chain stitch will often be too tight. 1 chain stitch should be just as long as 1 double crochet/half treble crochet/treble crochet is wide. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Read the diagrams from right to left when working from the right side and from left to right when working from the wrong side. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 treble crochet by working 2 treble crochets in same stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 treble crochet by working 2 treble crochets together into 1 treble crochet as follows: * Make 1 yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, get yarn, make 1 yarn over and pull yarn through the 2 first loops on hook *, repeat from *-* 2 times in total, make 1 yarn over and pull yarn through all 3 loops on hook (= 1 stitch decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SHORTS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work in the round top down. First work an edge in the round with a eyelet row to thread the tie through. Then work an elevation at the back of short - work the elevation back and forth with short rows to form the back piece. Work in the round after the elevation. Divide the piece for legs, work a gusset back and forth from mid front to mid back. Fasten the gusset to the back piece of shorts. Then work each leg in the round and finish with a lace edge at the bottom of legs. Work a string for tie. EDGE WITH EYELET ROW: Work 137-157-173-189-205-229-257 CHAIN STITCHES - read explanation above, on hook size 3.5 mm with DROPS Safran. Slip chain stitches together into a ring with 1 slip stitch in first chain stitch. Continue to work as follows: Work A.1a in first stitch (= beginning and end of round = mid back), then work A.1b the entire round = 136-156-172-188-204-228-256 double crochets + 1 chain stitch at the beginning of round. Continue pattern like this. Remember to follow the crochet tension! When A.1 has been worked, edge measures approx. 3 cm. Then work an elevation as explained below: ELEVATION: Begin mid back, work A.2a in first stitch, work A.2b over the next 6-7-7-8-8-9-9 stitches, work A.2c in next stitch, turn piece. Work A.2c in first stitch, work A.2b over the next 13-15-15-17-17-19-19 stitches, work A.2a in next stitch, turn piece. Work A.2a in first stitch, work A.2b over the next 20-23-23-26-26-29-29 stitches, work A.2c in next stitch, turn piece. Work A.2c in first stitch, work A.2b over the next 27-31-31-35-35-39-39 stitches, work A.2a in next stitch, turn piece. Continue back and forth like this by working 7-8-8-9-9-10-10 stitches more on every turn until 16-16-18-18-20-20-22 rows in total have been worked (piece turned 8-8-9-9-10-10-11 times in each side). Piece measures approx. 9-9-10-10-11-11-12 cm from cast-on edge mid back. After last turn work double crochets until mid back. Then work piece in the round from mid back as explained below. SHORTS: Work 1 round with double crochets in the round over all stitches, i.e. work first round in A.1. Then work treble crochets as follows: Work A.3a in first stitch, work A.3b the entire round. Continue like this with treble crochets in the round. When piece measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm from cast-on edge mid front, insert 4 markers in the piece, this is done without working the stitches – begin mid back, count 27-32-35-39-42-48-54 stitches (including 1st treble crochet at beginning of round = 3 chain stitches), insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 14-14-16-16-18-18-20 stitches, insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 52-62-68-76-82-94-106 stitches (= at the front on shorts), insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 14-14-16-16-18-18-20 stitches, insert 1 marker in next stitch, there are 26-31-34-38-41-47-53 stitches left on round. Continue A.3 in the round as before. AT THE SAME TIME on first round increase 1 treble crochet in stitch before 1st and 3rd marker and after 2nd and 4th marker – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every round 10-8-4-3-1-0-0 times and then every other round 4-5-8-9-11-11-11 times = 192-208-220-236-252-272-300 treble crochets + 3 chain stitches at the beginning of round. NOTE! Make sure that the markers are in the same stitch upwards so that there are always 14-14-16-16-18-18-20 stitches in each side of shorts between stitches with markers. When piece measures 23-25-27-29-31-33-34 cm from cast-on edge mid front, divide piece for legs and work a gusset mid front to mid back on shorts. Cut the yarn. GUSSET: Count 97-105-111-119-127-137-151 treble crochets (including 1st treble crochet at the beginning of round = 3 chain stitches) and insert 1 marker before next stitch (= mid front). Begin from right side 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 stitches before this marker, work A.4a in first stitch, work A.4b in each of the next 2-2-2-4-4-6-6 next stitches, work A.4c in last stitch. Work A.4 back and forth as follows. AT THE SAME TIME when gusset measures 4 cm increase 1 stitch in each side - remember INCREASE TIP and increase on the inside of outermost stitch in each side. Increase like this every 4 cm 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 times in total = 8-8-8-12-12-16-16 stitches. When 1 row remain before gusset measures 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 cm, increase 1 treble crochet in the middle of row = 9-9-9-13-13-17-17 stitches. Fasten off, gusset measures approx. 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 cm. ASSEMBLY: Fasten gusset to the back of shorts - beginning of round should fit the middle of gusset - sew edge to edge with small stitches. LEFT LEG: Begin from right side at the gusset at the back, work 1 slip stitch in first stitch, work A.3a in this stitch, then work A.3b around the leg as follows: Work 25-25-25-32-32-39-39 treble crochets along the gusset, and work 1 treble crochet in each of the 90-98-104-109-117-124-138 treble crochets around the leg on shorts = 115-123-129-141-149-163-177 treble crochets + 3 chain stitches at the beginning of round. Continue A.3 in the round until leg measures approx. 4-4-5-6-6-7-7 cm – AT THE SAME TIME on last round adjust number of stitches to 113-125-131-143-149-161-179 treble crochets + 3 chain stitches – read INCREASE TIP and DECREASE TIP in explanation above. On next round begin lace edge and work as follows: Work A.5a over the 4 first stitches, work A.5b 18-20-21-23-24-26-29 times in total, work A.5c over the last 2 stitches. Continue pattern like this until A.5 has been worked. Cut and fasten the yarn. Leg measures approx. 8-8-9-10-10-11-11 cm from division. RIGHT LEG: Begin from right side at the gusset at the back, work 1 slip stitch in first stitch, work A.3a in this stitch, then work A.3b around the leg as follows: Work 1 treble crochet in each of the 90-98-104-109-117-124-138 treble crochets around the leg on shorts and work 25-25-25-32-32-39-39 treble crochets along the gusset = 115-123-129-141-149-163-177 treble crochets + 3 chain stitches at the beginning of round. Continue A.3 in the round until leg measures approx. 4-4-5-6-6-7-7 cm – AT THE SAME TIME on last round adjust number of stitches to 113-125-131-143-149-161-179 treble crochets + 3 chain stitches – remember INCREASE TIP and DECREASE TIP. TIE: Work 1 chain stitch on hook size 3.5 mm with DROPS Safran, then use 2 strands (get the strand inside the ball and use it together with strand already being used). Place strands together but use left index finger to hold the strands apart (place one strand the top of index finger and place one strand at the bottom of index finger) and make sure that the strands being used is in the same place while you work. Work tie according to diagram A.6 until tie measures approx. 130-140-150-160-170-180-190 cm – or work to desired length. Cut the strands, pull strands through stitch and fasten. Baste the yarn up and down through row with eyelet holes at the top of shorts – start and finish approx. mid front. |
