------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT – from WRONG SIDE (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the front loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from WRONG SIDE (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the back loop. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.8. Start at the arrow for your size (applies to A.1, A.2, A.3, A.6 and A.7). The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. There are cables only on the front piece. The piece is started back and forth. First stitches are cast on at the back of the neck and the back piece is worked top down, while increasing stitches on each side for the shoulders which become slightly diagonal. The back piece is worked as far as the armholes. The front piece is then worked in 2 sections, knitting up stitches along 1 back shoulder, working pattern and increasing for the neckline. This is repeated on the other shoulder. The 2 front sections are joined when the neckline is finished and worked as far as the armholes. The front and back pieces are joined and the body worked in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are worked first back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline for the neck which is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 27-29-29-29-31-31-31 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and DROPS Air. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 13-13-14-15-15-16-17 times (26-26-28-30-30-32-34 rows worked) = 79-81-85-89-91-95-99 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side. The piece is now measured from here! Continue with stocking stitch (remember to maintain the knitting tension) until the piece measures 9-9-8-9-9-8-7 cm from the marker measured down the armhole. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2-3-4-4-5-7-9 times (4-6-8-8-10-14-18 rows worked) = 83-87-93-97-101-109-117 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 11-12-12-13-14-14-15 cm, from the marker down the armhole, finishing with a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread. Work the left front shoulder along the left back shoulder as follows. LEFT FRONT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked (inside the outermost stitch) to the armhole = 26-26-28-30-30-32-34 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: Purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14, knit 1, purl 4 and increase 2 stitches evenly across these 4 stitches, knit 2 and purl 13 = 28-28-30-32-32-34-36 stitches. Continue working PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: ROW 1 (right side): A.1, A.2, A.3, A.4, knit 6-6-8-10-10-12-14. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14, work A.4, A.3, A.2, A.1 – from the wrong side always knit above knit and purl above purl. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until A.1 is finished in height. The piece measures approx. 11-11-13-13-15-15-15 cm from the knitted-up row. There are 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches and the next row is from the right side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread. Work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked (inside the outermost stitch) as far as the neck = 26-26-28-30-30-32-34 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: Purl 13, knit 2, purl 4 and increase 2 stitches evenly across these 4 stitches, knit 1 and purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 = 28-28-30-32-32-34-36 stitches. Continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 6-6-8-10-10-12-14, work A.5, A.6, A.2, A.7. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work A.7, A.2, A.6, A.5, purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 - from the wrong side always knit above knit and purl above purl. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until A.7 is finished in height. The piece measures approx. 11-11-13-13-15-15-15 cm from the knitted-up row. There are 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches and the next row is from the right side. Do not cut the strand. The 2 front shoulders are now joined for the front piece. FRONT PIECE: The first row is from the right side. Across the 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches on the right front piece work: 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stocking stitches, then A.5, A.6, A.2, A.2, A.3, cast on 13 stitches for the neckline (= A.8). Across the 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches on the left front piece work: A.6, A.2, A.2, A.3, A.4, then 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stocking stitches = 95-95-99-103-103-107-111 stitches. The cast-on stitches are continued according to A.8 and the cables in A.8 are worked on the same row as in A.4 and A.5. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 27-26-27-28-28-28-27 cm. The increased stitches are worked in stocking stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit above knit and purl above purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2-4-5-5-7-9-11 times (4-8-10-10-14-18-22 rows worked) = 99-103-109-113-117-125-133 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 29-30-32-33-34-36-37 cm, finishing with a row from the wrong side. The front and back pieces are joined for the body. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: Work the 99-103-109-113-117-125-133 stitches on the front piece as before, cast on 2-4-6-8-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the 83-87-93-97-101-109-117 stitches from the back piece as before, cast on 2-4-6-8-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve) = 186-198-214-226-242-262-282 stitches. Continue the pattern in the round, the new stitches under each sleeve are worked in stocking stitch. Work until the body measures 22-23-23-23-24-24-25 cm from the join, with the last round a no-cable round. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 14-18-18-22-22-26-30 stitches evenly on the first round (do not increase across the cables) = 200-216-232-248-264-288-312 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7-7 cm, cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm, from by the neck. SLEEVES: The sleeve is worked top down. Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker in the top of the armhole (NOTE! This is not the same as the knitted-up row on the front piece but 9 to 11 cm down the front piece). Use circular needle size 3.5 mm. Start from the right side in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve. Knit up 64-70-78-82-90-96-102 stitches, with equal numbers of stitches on each side of the marker. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. To give the sleeve a better fit, short rows are worked back and forth for the sleeve cap, starting mid-under the sleeve: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to 5 stitches past the shoulder-marker, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl to 5 stitches past the shoulder-marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Knit to 3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl to 3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 12-14-14-16-18-20-24 times (6-7-7-8-9-10-12 times on each side and with the last row from the wrong side). After the last row 4, turn and knit back to mid-under sleeve. Insert 1 marker-thread here. This is used when decreasing under the sleeve, allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm from the join, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 6-5-3½-3-2-2-1½ cm a total of 6-8-12-13-17-19-22 times = 52-54-54-56-56-58-58 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 47-48-48-47-47-47-47 cm from the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 10 stitches evenly on the first round = 62-64-64-66-66-68-68 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7-7 cm, cast off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 53-54-54-54-54-54-54 cm from the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3.5 mm. Start from the right side by one knitted-up row and knit up 78-82-86-86-94-94-94 stitches inside 1 stitch around the neckline. The stitch count must be divisible by 2. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) in the round for 4-4-4½-4½-4½-5-5 cm. Cast off with rib. |
