------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- ELEVATION: To make the back of the neck slightly higher when working a round yoke, you can work an elevation as described here. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round = mid-back. Start by the marker from the right side and knit 10-10-10-11-11-12-12, turn – read KNITTING TIP. Purl 20-20-20-22-22-24-24. Turn and knit 30-30-30-33-33-36-36, turn and purl 40-40-40-44-44-48-48. Turn and knit 50-50-50-55-55-60-60, turn and purl 60-60-60-66-66-72-72. Turn and knit to the marker mid-back. Then continue the yoke in the round as described in the text. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. INCREASE TIP-1: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 94 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 12) = 7.8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over approx. each 8th stitch - read INCREASE TIP-2 for how to increase. INCREASE TIP-2: This symmetrical method of increasing gives 1 new stitch. Follow points 1-4: 1. Hold the working strand behind the piece. Slip the first stitch on the left needle loosely onto the right needle purl-wise. 2. Insert the left needle behind the slipped stitch and between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on the right needle. 3. Make 1 yarn-over around the right needle and pull it through the stitch, giving 1 new stitch on the right needle. 4. Drop front loop of stitch off left needle and then knit 1 in front part of the other loop of stitch. 1 stitch increased. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid-back. If you wish you can work an elevation at the back of the neck for the neckline. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 108-112-116-124-128-132-140 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and colour Brown DROPS Air. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Knit 1 round. Then work rib as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left on the round, purl 2 and knit 1. Work this rib until the neck measures 13-13-14-14-15-15-16 cm – AT THE SAME TIME, on the last round decrease 18-18-18-24-22-22-24 stitches evenly spaced = 90-94-98-100-106-110-116 stitches (decrease by purling 2 together in purled sections). Insert 1 marker in the middle of the round (mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Read INCREASE TIP-1 and INCREASE TIP-2. Knit 1 round and increase 10-12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches evenly spaced = 100-106-110-114-120-126-132 stitches. You can now work an ELEVATION at the back – read explanation above. When the elevation is finished (or if you do not want an elevation) continue with stocking stitch in the round. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 3-3-3-3-3-3-3 cm from the marker, increase 32-35-37-40-42-46-48 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 and INCREASE TIP-2 = 132-141-147-154-162-172-180 stitches. When the yoke measures 6-6-6-6-6-6-6 cm from the marker, increase 32-35-37-40-42-46-48 stitches evenly spaced = 164-176-184-194-204-218-228 stitches. When the yoke measures 9-9-9-9-9-10-10 cm from the marker, increase 28-34-38-40-42-46-48 stitches evenly spaced = 192-210-222-234-246-264-276 stitches. When the yoke measures 10-10-10-10-10-11-11 cm, work PATTERN – read explanation above, working A.1 32-35-37-39-41-44-46 times in width on the round. Continue this pattern, increasing on each round marked with an arrow in the diagram as follows – remember INCREASE TIP-1 and INCREASE TIP-2: Arrow-1: Increase 30-36-36-36-42-42-42 stitches evenly spaced = 222-246-258-270-288-306-318 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 18-18-24-24-30-30-36 stitches evenly spaced = 240-264-282-294-318-336-354 stitches. Arrow-3 (choose arrow for your size): Increase 14-16-14-20-22-22-20 stitches evenly spaced = 254-280-296-314-340-358-374 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 22-22-23-23-24-26-28 cm from the marker (all increases are now finished). Now divide for the body and sleeves (the pattern continues on the body and sleeves). DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 39-43-45-48-53-56-60 stitches as before (= approx. half the back piece), place the next 49-55-59-61-65-67-67 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-14-16-18-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 78-85-89-96-105-112-120 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 49-55-59-61-65-67-67 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-14-16-18-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 39-42-44-48-52-56-60 stitches as before (= approx. half the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 180-198-210-228-246-264-288 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 12-14-16-18-18-20-24 stitches cast on under one sleeve). Start the round at the marker and continue A.1 in the round – NOTE: If the yoke was divided in the middle of a repeat, the pattern will not fit under each sleeve; work the pattern as far as it will go under each sleeve. When A.1 is finished in height, work A.2 30-33-35-38-41-44-48 times in width on the round. Work A.2 a total of 1-1-2-2-2-2-3 times in height. Work A.3 45-50-53-57-62-66-72 times in width on the round – AT THE SAME TIME, on the first round increase 0-2-2-0-2-0-0 stitches evenly spaced = 180-200-212-228-248-264-288 stitches. When A.3 is finished in height, continue with stocking stitch and colour Brown. Work until the piece measures 49-51-53-53-55-56-58 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 72-80-80-88-96-104-116 stitches evenly spaced on the first round = 252-280-292-316-344-368-404 stitches. When the rib measures 10-10-10-11-11-12-12 cm, cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 59-61-63-64-66-68-70 cm from the marker mid-front and 64-66-68-70-72-74-76 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 49-55-59-61-65-67-67 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 12-14-16-18-18-20-24 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 61-69-75-79-83-87-91 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 12-14-16-18-18-20-24 stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. In addition, insert 1 marker in the middle stitch on the round – this is used when assessing where A.2 and A.3 should start. Work pattern at the same time as decreasing under the sleeve, read the rest of the sleeve instructions before continuing. Continue A.1 from the yoke around the sleeve – the pattern will not fit under the sleeve but make sure it matches the stitches from the yoke. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-2-3-3-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm a total of 0-2-2-2-2-3-3 times = 57-61-65-69-73-75-79 stitches. AT THE SAME TIME, when A.1 is finished in height, work A.2 – count out from the marker-stitch where to start A.2 under the sleeve – the marker-stitch should match the middle stitch in A.2. Work A.2 a total of 1-1-2-2-2-2-3 times in height. Then work A.3 in the same way. When A.3 is finished in height, continue with stocking stitch and colour Brown. Work until the sleeve measures 35-36-35-36-35-32-31 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 23-23-27-27-27-29-33 stitches evenly on the first round = 80-84-92-96-100-104-112 stitches. When the rib measures 10-10-10-11-11-12-12 cast off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-46-45-47-46-44-43 cm from the division. |
