GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. INCREASE TIP: Inc from RS with 1 YO. On next row P YO twisted, i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front, to avoid holes. ---------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER: Work back and forth on the needle from the toe towards the heel. The slipper is sewn tog mid on top of foot when finished. Cast on 6-6-9-10-11-14 sts on needle size 6 mm with 1 strand off white and 1 strand medium grey = 2 strands (let the yarn end be approx. 50 cm for sewing the slipper tog when finished). Insert 1 marker in the 2nd-2nd-3rd-3rd-3rd-4th st and 1 marker in the 5th-5th-7th-8th-9th-11th st. Then work in stocking st (1st row = WS). On next row (= RS), inc 1 st on each side of the 2 markers (= 4 sts inc) - READ INCREASE TIP! Repeat inc on every row from RS 2-2-2-3-3-3 more times (= 3-3-3-4-4-4 times in total) = 18-18-21-26-27-30 sts. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue to work until piece measures 9-9-10-11-12-13 cm. At beg of the next 2 rows, cast off 2-2-3-4-4-4 sts = 14-14-15-18-19-22 sts. Continue in stocking st with 3-3-3-3-3-4 sts in garter st in each side. Continue in garter st and stocking st until piece measures 21-22-25-27-30-33 cm. Cast off. ASSEMBLY: Sew thread through each of the outermost sts at the front and tighten tog. Sew seam mid on top of foot inside ½ st to where ridges beg. Fold the slipper double WS against WS and sew tog mid back edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam. With 2 strands in off white sew cross stitches over the edge around the opening on slipper. Cross stitches should go over 2 ridges in width and 2 sts vertically. CROCHET FLOWER: Worked in the round, i.e. work as follows: Crochet 5 ch on hook size 5 mm with 1 strand grey and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 1: 2 ch (= 1 htr), work 13 htr in ch-ring and finish with 1 sl st in 2nd ch from beg of round = 14 htr. ROUND 2: 1 ch, * 3 ch, skip 1 htr, 1 sl st in next htr *, repeat from *-* 6 more times (= 7 times in total) – NOTE: Switch to off white and work the last sl st on round in first ch from beg of round = 7 ch-spaces. ROUND 3: 1 ch, in every ch-space work: 1 dc, 2 ch, 3 dtr, 1 ch, 3 dtr and 4 ch. Finish with 1 sl st in first ch from beg of round = 7 leaves. Fasten off. FELTING: The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below. Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment. IN WASHING MACHINE: Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme). Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet. IN TUMBLE DRYER: Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly. AFTER FELTING: Sew flowers on to slippers. |
