How to felt slippers

In this DROPS video we show the slippers in DROPS 86-15 knitted in DROPS Snow before and after felting.

Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash warm at 40C with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the slippers into the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. If the slippers are too small, put them in water until they are thoroughly wet, and then stretch to right size.
At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool programme.

Da vil vrangen komme ut. Men det står at "dette er nå retten". Stemmer dette? Skal det som i normalt strikketøy er vrangen være rettsiden her? På bildet (etter toving, riktignok) ser det ut som at vrangen er vrange som i normalt strikketøy, så jeg er usikker.

Hei Anne. Ja, det stemmer i denne oppskriften. Men om du ikke ønsker det kan du sy den sammen retten mot retten, deretter vrangen den slik at retten kommer ut. mvh DROPS design

Buongiorno Manuela, dovrebbe lavorare un campione con il filato che vuole utilizzare ed infeltrirlo e poi calcolare la percentuale di infeltrimento. Buon lavoro!

Buongiorno Manuela. E' sufficiente che segua le indicazioni riportate nelle spiegazioni e che il suo campione corrisponda a quello dato. Nelle spiegazioni è già compreso il margine necessario per ottenere la misura corretta dopo aver infeltrito. Buon lavoro!

I loved the idea of the Hobbit slippers but would like to point out that washing them at 40 degrees does not cause them to felt. I rewashed them at 60 degrees and achieved the desired effect. Shaping them to fit wasn't as easy as expected, the felting process had caused the inside surfaces to stick together. Next time I will somehow use fabric inside each slipper to make things easier, also I'll knit them a size down as I knit quite loosely.

Dear Mr Reynolds, each washmachine is different that may explain this. Some knitter do felt their knitted projects in drumbler/dryer, you then may have more control and can often check how it felt. Remember your DROPS Store may also have some tips & advices for you. Happy felting!

How to make a felted muff

In this DROPS video we show how you can easily make a delicious felted muff in DROPS Polaris. We use 3 skeins red (08) and 1 skein medium grey (04). Cast on 32 sts on needles size 12. Knit garter st until work measures 45 cm, cast off. Cut the thread, but leave enough length of thread for assembly. Finger Crochet with two fingers, a tie of approx 180 cm with red. Cut up threadends at approx 12 cm (both red and medium gray) and use a crochet hook to attach the tassels on the side and some on in the front of the muff. Cut medium gray threads ends approx 10 cm and attach it on the entire back side. Sew the short sides together and sew the long tie on each side. Place the muff inside out in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. At subsequent wash, wash the muff at regular wool programme.

Felting is so easy and anyone can do it! In this DROPS video we show how you easily can make felted wrist warmers that freshens up any sweater / jacket. In this DROPS video we have used Snow color no 42, powder. Finger Crochet with two fingers the whole skein and felt it. Share the strap in half, sew the strap together as shown in the video, make sure they are not too tight. At subsequent washed wash the wrist warmers at a wool programme.

How to make a hot pad with small felted balls

Felting is so easy and everyone can do it! In this DROPS video we show how to make a hot pad with small felted balls in DROPS Alaska. Wind the yarn around two fingers, after a couple rounds, remove yarn from fingers and continue winding around the yarn until you have a ball. Keep winding the yarn around and around until you have the size on the ball you want. We show how to make two different sizes, but we make the hot pot with the smallest size Place the balls in a thin stocking and put it in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Are there many stockings with balls, one can add every single stocking in a laundry bag / new stocking, so not all stockings twirl together. Wash at 40 C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash, at subsequent wash. Sew balls together until you have the size you want for the hot pad. The hot pad can be wash later at regular wool programme.

In this DROPS video we show a mobile pouch knitted in DROPS Big Delight before and after felting. Place the mobile pouch in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach.
