Work stocking st. When piece measures 8-8-10-12-14-16 cm dec 1 st each side and repeat the dec on every 4.5-4-4-4-5-8 cm a total of 7-8-8-8-7-5 times = 48-52-56-62-68-76 sts. See NEW BALL TIP. When piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-59 cm cast off for armhole each side: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 0-1-1-2-3-4 times and 1 st 2-1-3-3-4-5 times = 38-40-40-42-42-44 sts. When piece measures 69-72-75-78-81-83 cm cast off the middle 12-14-14-14-14-14 sts for neck and complete each shoulder separately. On next row cast off 1 st on neckline = 12-12-12-13-13-14 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 71-74-77-80-83-85 cm. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 42-45-47-50-52-54 sts (includes 1 edge st at the side and 22 front band sts towards mid front) on circular needle size 8 mm with Ice. Continue in stocking st with 22 MOSS STS – see above – towards mid front (= front band). When piece measures 8-8-10-12-14-16 cm dec at the side as described for back piece = 35-37-39-42-45-49 sts. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 24-26-27-22-25-27 cm make BUTTONHOLES – see above. When piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-59 cm cast off for armhole at the side as described for back piece = 30-31-31-32-32-33 sts. Continue as before. When piece measures 66-68-69-72-75-77 cm slip 12 sts towards mid front on a stitch holder for neck. Cast off to shape the neckline at the beg of every row from mid front: 4 sts 1 time and 1 st 2-3-3-3-3-3 times = 12-12-12-13-13-14 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 71-74-77-80-83-85 cm. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Like right front piece, but mirrored. NOTE! Make 1 buttonhole as described for right front piece when piece measures 56-58-59-62-65-67 cm. SLEEVE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 36-36-38-38-40-40 sts on double pointed needles size 8 mm with Ice. Work 2 rounds stocking st and then 4 rounds GARTER ST – see above. Continue in moss st until piece measures 18 cm and then complete piece in stocking st. After the moss st insert 3 markers in piece as follows: marker-1 at beg of round, marker-2 after 12-12-13-13-14-14 sts and marker-3 after 24-24-25-25-26-26 sts. Now dec 1 st to the right of all markers (= 3 dec) – see DECREASING TIP! Repeat the dec when piece measures 24-24-25-25-26-26 cm = 30-30-32-32-34-34 sts. When piece measures 26-26-27-27-28-28 cm inc 1 st each side of marker-1, and repeat the inc on every 4-3-3-2-1.5-1.5 cm a total of 6-7-7-9-9-10 times = 42-44-46-50-52-54 sts. When piece measures 48-48-48-46-45-43 cm (less for the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulder) cast off 6 sts mid under sleeve (= 3 sts each side of marker-1) and complete piece back and forth on needle. Cast off to shape the sleeve cap each side at beg of every row: 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 0-1-1-3-4-6 times, then 2 sts each side until piece measures 54-55-56-56-57-57 cm, now cast off 3 sts each side 1 time and cast off remaining sts. Piece measures approx 56-57-58-58-59-59 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Sew side seams inside 1 edge st. Sew buttons on left front piece. Also sew 1 button on the inside of right front piece – make sure st doesn’t show on RS. HOOD: Pick up 45-51-53-53-53-53 sts round neck (includes sts on stitch holders) on circular needle size 8 mm with Ice. Work 1 st each side in double thread throughout (use an extra ball for this). Work 6 rows garter st back and forth on needle, AT THE SAME TIME on last row dec 16-22-22-22-20-20 sts evenly on sts along back piece and sides of front pieces (NOTE! Do not dec on front band sts following on from front pieces) = 29-29-31-31-33-33 sts. Continue in MOSS ST. When piece measures 47-47-48-48-49-49 cm work 2 rows garter st on all sts and cast off. Fold hood double and sew tog at the top from RS. |
