middle stitch mid-stitch
The term middle stitch is used to define for example the middle of a sleeve, the middle of a front/back piece, or the middle of a pattern repeat. When a pattern repeat is to be placed in the centre of a garment piece, a marker on the garment piece is often used to align with a centre marker in the pattern repeat. From there, you need to count in order to determine where in the chart the pattern should start towards the side.
