How to knit a shawl in garter stitch with leaves - sideways

Keywords: garter stitch, leaf pattern, shawl,

In this DROPS video we show how we knit a shawl with garter stitches and leaves worked sideways. We have cast on a much smaller number of stitches than it says in the pattern and we have already knitted row 1-4, 3 times. We start the video showing row 1-4, the 4th time (with gray), then how we decrease and increase to the leaves (with yellow), then working row 1- 4, 1 time after a leaf and finish how we bind off. This shawl is knitted in DROPS Fabel, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. You’ll find the pattern by clicking on the picture below.

Thank you for the video, I took a little time getting used to no-voice over, but the video is excellent. I was stuck on Row two where it said: K all sts, K YO twisted; until I watched the video, what it meant was knit the YO stitch from the previous row as a twisted stitch - but it was unclear. I\'m looking forward to getting into the shawl -thanks again for the video.

Yes. "work 2 stitches in last stitch" is a ktbl. i.e. Knit 1 , then without dropping the stitch, knit through the back loop of the same stitch to make 1 extra stitch, (Increase by 1). Drop both stitches off the needle.

This video is extremely helpful, as the pattern was hard to understand. To make the yellow points on the edges, the pattern says "work 2 stitches in last stitch". In the video it seems that it is a simple kfb increase. Is that so? And if so, why would the pattern use such obscure terminology? I could not find what "work 2 st in last st" meant exactly, and there were many different explanations online. It would be simpler to describe it as it is.

Hello. I would like to buy comparable yarn in the US. Would you tell me the weight of the yarn and the size of the corresponding needles, please? I am new to knitting and would love to knit this pattern. It is lovely. How much would it cost to complete the shawl using the drops yarn used on the model, and is it available to me in the US? Or- May I buy it online? How long for delivery?
